People criticizing lacking features are missing the point. This browser is not supposed to be your daily driver full of features. Use normal Firefox if you want browser with many features. Focus is best for using as a throwaway browser (by, ironically, setting as default browser) so that when you click random links you receive via sms, whatsapp etc. they are not merged into the browsing history of your "regular" browser.
I don't know when did this start but it's after an update before. Whenever I use YouTube the video is so slow or it's always stopping. If it's not stopping then the audio is always muted. I'm only rating this 1 star so you can fix the issue, will change my rating after a few days since I really like this app. I'm not sure if it only happens to YouTube because it seems fine playing other videos to other site. Hope you can fix it. Thanks.
I just installed it & everything seems perfect so far. I'll re-review in a few weeks if any issues arise, but I really dig that it automatically erases all the pages after I close my browser. Regular Firefox says it will do that, but it doesn't ever close them. I'll have 27 pages open by noon 🙄 Firefox needs to fix that on their original app. Maybe the new, separate browser is the fix 🤔
I set Ecosia as the default search engine so I'm super pleased. One thing that I miss though is dark mode option, I thought Focus would have it built in, just like the regular firefox but it doesn't. And you can't easily make a parallel search in a new tab. I recommend the regular app but if you prefer a light app this one is worth it and convenient, they make privacy easy on either app (how it should be!).
Feedback if these are being monitored: the sound button popup when viewing a gif or a video is super distracting and I'm always trashing it as soon as it appears. Please give us a setting to turn that off permanently. Otherwise, my go to phone browser. Love the built in privacy settings and the help cleaning up after a session.
Simple and clean browser for specifically when you want to focus. It's a niche use, as there are no bookmarks, no multiple tabs, and no history saved. Essentially, it's equivalent to browsing incognito, but Incognito is on at all times. It's great for what it's for what it's designed for, but anyone who wants more should look elsewhere.
I would say this is the best mobile browser for phone usage where you want to easily de-gunk things often and want to maintain some privacy, but it isn't, yet. Firefox has several accessibility features like the ability to zoom any page or the ability to prefer dark themes even when you have other privacy controls turned on, but you can't do it here. Maybe it'll happen, but seems not to be a priority.
overall it works well. it does prevent websites from doing pop ups and running animations automatically. It would be desirable to have an option to temporarily enable (just for the session or a single visit to a website) java and fonts because some website display almost none or very limited stuff when both or either is on . as it is now, the user has to navigate through the settings menus to enable them. Also an option to erase individual tabs is missing. it used to be available.
Great default browser for quick searches. You don't have to remember to clean out your history and there are a few features you can use to keep prying eyes away. However, I constantly wish it had full features like regular Firefox and wish regular Firefox acted more like firefox focus does. In short, you either need both browsers or just the full version with a few add ons.
Privacy first, Firefox Focus is for people who care more about not being tacked and spied on than browser bells and whistles. This browser is fast and responsive, still managing to do all the important things I need for basic browsing of web articles. I use this browser first, as my default and then use it's easily accessible "open in" feature if I need to, which is surprisingly rare and generally has more to do with bookmarks or my own hangups than functionality.
It's a very good app to : 1- Keeping you SAFE. Safe from viruses, malwares, Spywares etc. but an antivirus would be easier and better to use for this type of Usage. 2- HIDING Your History, GPS / Location. Yes you Could do this in the normal firefox but it takes time and it might be confusing to people. in Firefox Focus, The way to clear your history is really easy and obvious. 3- I feel like its way more faster than normal firefox, altho this might not be true. Thanks, Firefox ;)
Great for its purpose. For the people who have an issue with the app: use different apps like firefox, via, vivaldi, duckduckgo, etc, for different options. Just don't use Chrome. Vivaldi is chromium based but I just use it because it's great to download stuff and it has an option to 'captures entire page" as a screenshot. I use it when needed. Via has night mode(!) and we can clear everything on exit while STILL restoring tabs on start up. Very unique and great feature. Just use different apps.
I don't think it should be another completely separated app out of Firefox. Maybe, instead of just security, it should be integrated with the actual Firefox experience. — Why if I want to do quick searchs every time, but also I want to sync that history to my Firefox account — Excellent app, but you're bifurcating the Firefox Browser experience. — I WANT TO USE THE APP, but represents an ecosystem failure.
Exceptional browser. Great on battery and has great privacy feats built in. Mozilla has always been known for great browsers, until they lost their way for a little bit years ago, but if they continue to make stuff like this, they'll be at the top again! I've always been a Firefox desktop user and now I can use their phone browser without feeling like I'm trading off.
Great app, but the search suggestion function only works 10% of the time. Sometimes it works for the first 4 or 5 letters, sometimes not at all, but it never works for the whole search word or phrase. Problem persisted even after phone factory reset (for unrelated reason.) Suggestions work fine in regular Firefox for Android though, so it seems specific to Focus
This app is clean and wickedly fast. If you're looking for something to quickly open links & peek at stuff or quickly read items from the web It's perfect. ot the best for media heavy research or filling in forms etc No history so if you leave things open in tabs to read later and they accidentally get closed they're gone.
Really an awesome tool for getting on and offline when all you need is a small thing. I'm the sort to have hundreds of tabs. Focus helps you avoid that junk a bit. The tricky part is consistently remembering to use it, but it's also nice for being sketchy, so it's nice to have on hand unless you're some puritanical sort who never wants to have forgotten internet activity.
Firefox browsers were once great wherever you used them but post 69 versions and Mitchell Baker's arrival, firefox is just trash & outdated. Focus browser is clunky, resource usage heavy and takes over 200 MB as storage. Google search is default for this privacy browser. Cant open more than one tab. No Brave search. No dark theme for websites. No offline viewing option. No exit button. Cant retain old tabs after restart. Kiwi browser & other lightweight browsers are far superior than this mess.
This used to be my go to browser but lately after the last few updates pop ups have been getting through, pages don't load properly, some pages even freeze or stop responding. I don't know what has been going on but whatever you guys are changing in the app it isn't for the better and that's a real shame...
I like the overall concept and layout, but the app has a few problems. Some features on certain website break, and I still see ads on a few websites. Also a new tap option would be greatly appreciated.
Love the App and love the Night mode look but not totally "No Fuss". For some reason I can only add 4 shortcuts to the Homepage. Is this a bug or intentional? I have also lost count over many years, of the 1000's of users who have requested that desktop mode be able to be set as default in settings instead of having to use the menu option for every single page viewed! What am I missing here - why does Mozilla so stubbornley continue to refuse to do this? Would give 5 stars if this was added.
The browser is fast and works overall well. In one case the interface went crazy, don't remember the url. One star less because 1. Only 4 quick access can be added to the start page. 2. Once read the info text on the Startpage below it should disappear. Fixing this should be easy.
So this moved from being a "privacy browser" with a big data clean button to a "no fuss browser" with a half hidden small button, since Mozilla is moving to the rich business of spying on people (sync and storage of data and credentials, in-house vpn, mail forwarding, tracking for browser homepage advertisements, etc). Despicable. What's worse: does Mozilla's management and marketing think all their users are stupid, unable to see where mozilla is getting to? Time to change browsers.
My YouTube account was disabled, and with it my YouTube Red subscription, which was far less expensive and did far more than the modern equivalent, as best I notice, but with Firefox I can play YouTube in the background without sacrificing the floating display. I literally downloaded this browser to use as a substitute YouTube, and it works, so five stars it gets
Love Firefox. I've always been a fan since the beginning when Firefox first came out only for Windows PC. I rated a 1 star for ads because of the fact you don't have any. That is the only thing that I do rate low because I think, when Google asks to rate the ads on the application, I think it's asking me that ⭐ is no ads and ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ is waaaay too much for me. I also rated ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for ho easy for me to navigate the 0is. I'm able to navigate with no problem, I'm not sure what others say but it's easy
Since firefox as gone over to chrome it's not as good as it was. It was the must have browser. Now it's no different to all the other browsers. Privacy and security has just about gone. Everything seems to be pushing you to use Google. The default search engine, chrome browser etc etc. Hardly any settings now. Control of the browser has been taken away in an effort to encourage use of Google. Did they forget who collects the most user data. It's sad to see. Duckduckgo for me now.
I'm seriously concerned about web security and privacy, one of the methods to protect yourself is to not leave any trace behind. and this app does it by default. tow things I'd like to see in this app first, search bar widget to quickly search for what you want second, some of the websites doesn't operate normally on this browser, I don't know why. I hope they fix it.
let's see how it goes. seems beautiful, slick and. easy without clutter at the glance. the search speed is pretty fast. and it does what it says.
I love this app. But I hope some features on Firefox mobile will come on this. 1. Ad block needs to improve. Some ads aren't blocked. 2. Force dark mode for web contains. With Firefox mobile I can use add-on to do it. But with focus I can't. 3. I want to change address bar to bottom and swift it to switch tab.
The new trash icon location guys!! It's really inconveniently placed now. Some of my friends even thought that it disappeared. Please bring it back to the bottom where the thumb can actually reach it:-)! I'll go back to 5 stars in the next update as I'm of course always grateful for the hard work you did on Focus but I really wanted to let you know that this arbitrary UI choice was not good at all as other comments pointed out
