This expensive piece of professional equipment, for some reason, relies on the inherent unreliability of an android app, a cell phone, and worst of all, a bluetooth connection. Apps need to be constantly updated and maintained, and Firehawk fails at this. It constantly drops connection, logs out of your account, and gives other errors that shouldn't be coming from professional music equipment. I couldn't imagine having to rely on this equipment for a gig or in any other professional setting.
I've been using this app for nearly 4 years across multiple phones, tablets, and android emulators. It is very useful to program in tones and offers a lot of versatility. However I find it extremely buggy and it will close out and disconnect (despite the bluetooth staying connected) randomly, as well as trying to access certain features. I like it for it's potential, but I believe it has been poorly programmed and Line 6 does not seem to care at the slightest.
Love the overall sounds and options but badly let down by some silly issues. You can't back up your tones unless you do them one at a time, which is slow and clunky. When using the top row of foot switches it's too easy to hit the bottom row. This could have easily been solved by putting a block of plastic above the bottom row. Also, you are forced to have certain settings, such as send/receive, compression and reverb, which means you're limited in how many mods you can have. BUT good overall.
Great features but not always working. Keeps saying "invalid token" when working with cloud based tone searching/management. It is obviously a bug that needs to be fixed. There is a workaround though, log out and log back in, but it works fine only for a while, and then invalid token is there again. Also tends to lose connection with the Firehawk every once in a while for no obvious reason.
Awesome app Works well and the most commonly used features are pretty intuitive. Tone library=👍. Saving and reassigning patches can take some getting used to. The block assignment is very easy. user's manual is available in app which is helpful, however the only suggestion I have is to improve the manual itself. It's not very in depth and you have to work to figure out some of the functions of the app and the machine because they are not very well documented in the manual.
Poorly optimised for BT connectivity, frequent disconnections, eventually settles on the connection and stays so. When looking for tones it doesn't show enough details, it's not immediately apparent how to save tones to your cloud, and the whole search process can be tedious and be made quicker. Also issues like "invlaid Token" show, they make you log out and log in again to use the search (there might be a more permanent solution to this). They could give the app more attention! All in all, it's very useful and you can do the important things easily enough.
I have used and played many different brands of multi effects floor boards; some extremely difficult to figure out (even with the manual); some not so hard to hunderstand. However, all of them left me hardpressed to acutally get the right sound or the proper tone I was looking for. Bad for those effects designers; sad for me! Then came the "New Kid In Town"! My jaw dropped when I heard the Firehawk FX. Many of the tones I wanted were already there. Amazing sound quality; amazing ease of play.
Worse app, have had many issues with it, lost connection while updating, couldn't get my firehawk fx to work, it was a pain, got it up and running. This app doesn't work as promoted, can't even check or add to music library without crashing. Not happy at all with app and that was the main reason I spent over 400 for the Line 6 Firehawk Fx.
The app has a lot of problem, specially with the new operating system. It is struggles to connect with the app using the Bluetooth. And the music library do not work in the app anymore. I recently bought this. I will file a complaint against this Better Better Business Bureau, And see I can file lawsuit against them.
I love the functionality of the app. Please let me know if there is a way to install this app for a 2 -in- 1 laptop. This would be optimal. One downside is when certain tones are installed to the hardware, it crashes. Hence the minus one star. Overall it's a handy thing to keep around - easy to use. Thank you :)
Initially good, but now sadly bugged, won't buy anything from line6 or yamaha now knowing that they don't care about their customers product longevity. No updates for 2 years and app not compatible with new version of android. For a product that relies on the app, this isn't acceptable. Just real happy I didn't buy the variax as well. Bullet dodged there.
It's a pain. It drops connectivity constantly and forces you to log back in going between edit and search. Is not user friendly, and is clunky trying to save settings on the pedal. I think it's easier for Apple users... in need of an upgrade for Android.
One improvement I would like to see is when you move the app to the background to use another app, then returning to it, Firehawk Remote has to resync with the amp. While gigging, I don't always have the time available to wait for this to complete.
Love everything about the Firehawk FX interface by app with exception for the tuner. It goes off on its own. Sometimes it works eight hours straight. Then it won't stay on the tuner mode without going back to your patch, for days on end. Other than that I love this pedal board and accompanying app!!!
Ok overall. But lots of problems with " invalid tokens" when searching for tones. Also lots of errors when trying to save a tone to the Firehawk FX. This needs works for Android. Please sort this out
Drops Bluetooth connection to the amp unexpectedly, making it hard to rely on in gig situations. Also, needs a way to blacklist apps from playing through Bluetooth so your podcasts don't start playing during a gig! Would love an option to control the amp via USB for better reliability.
Too many bugs, needs an update. This app was last updated in 2018, big letdown for everyone who spent money on this hardware. I have spent a lot of money over the years with line6, but never again. There are other options for gear on the market so goodbye line6 and have fun screwing over your customers.
Need to fix the issues with loading tones in, and add making duplicate tone settings for experimentation. Otherwise this is a phenonminal modeler controller. Update : 05/24/21 The app will not let me search for tones anymore, and on top of that it has connection issues out the wazoo.
Bluetooth connectivity is a little dodgy, saving patches is confusing at first and range of tones is fairly basic, but this app is pretty easy to use. I would add that using a larger device than a phone makes this app a darn sight better :)
Its just as advertised easy setup does more than you will ever need . lots of fun trying different amps and effects and the sounds are great tool for a gig i can,t say enough about the it. Built strong looks good never lets me down I love it and can live without it. thanks line 6 you make my life easy. keep on rock.en thanks ken.
What a perfect time for that little window to pop up that says would you like to rate this app now? when searching for a tone I get an invalid token warning message, no results are ever displayed and then the app crashed. Then the dialog box came on asking me if I wanted to rate this app. Why yes, yes I would like to rate this app with one star. this isn't the first time this has happened and if you Google it you will see plenty of others out there with the same issues as well as the ap reviews
It's ok. Could be faster and more robust to be honest. Really big problem for me is since updating my phone to android 10 it crashes every time I try and play a music file. App really needs updating.
Load error = -21 After I brought it home and found out there was software I was supposed to download for it from line 6's own website. It never worked again. I can't even factory reset. All because I wanted to record on my phone like it advertised.
Great.. until the bt connection dies. Or, it won't do anything because of an "invalid token.". And of course all of this happens during a show. Also, forget looking up patches. I haven't been able to in months
Constantly getting token errors when searching for tones. The only (temporary) fix is to log out and log back in. Unfortunately it doesn't seem line 6 provides support for the firehawk fx anymore.
Horrible experience with the software. I can't search for tones as it is giving a token error. And it takes a while for the app to connect to my pedal
I've had the app for about 3 years now and it's been nothing but a hassle. After about a week on redownloading it I won't be able to search for toned other than the ones I've downloaded. Now it won't let me sign in because it won't connect to the internet yet every other electronic I have works fine. I don't understand how you can neglect this for so long. The tones sounds great but the app make every difficult. It's only gotten worse.
