Five Hundred

A fun and tricky card game played between two pairs of opponents. Five Hundred originated in America around the year 1900, and is currently popular in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. It is similar to Hearts and Euchre.
Each player is dealt ten cards, with three cards set aside as the kitty. Each player then has an opportunity to bid or pass depending on how many tricks they think they can win. Players are awarded points if they win the number of tricks bid, and lose points if they fail to do so. The game ends when one team bids, wins their bid, and reaches at least 500 points; or if a team "goes out the back door" by reaching -500 points.

In this version you play with a computer partner, and two computer opponents. There are many variations of the rules of five hundred, the rules used in this game may be found here: http://www.pagat.com/euchre/500.html.

A paid version of this game is currently in development. If you have any suggestions for changes or new features to include in the paid version, or you have noticed a problem with this version that might require an update, you can send feedback to this address: [email protected].

Enjoy.

It's a great game on the most part, but when I close the app it restarts the game I'm on. This means I can't turn my phone completely off while playing a game. I don't know whether this is specific to my phone or not. If there was some way that could be fixed that would be great.

Basically good. However AI often over trumps tricks won by its partner, leads back small trumps when it's your opponents call to give opponent the lead, gets confused who it's partner is, ups a call when opponents have called 6 eg opposition calls six hearts then partner calls 7 and gets trounced because they only have 1 or 2 trump cards. It seems more sophisticated game play is a difficult fix, still fun to play though.

Like most others I'm sick of my partner trumping my trick when they are last to play. Also if I bid, for example, 6 clubs (because we only need 60 points to win) my partner makes it more difficult by bidding 7 clubs, grrrr. Someone said they had 960 points before the computer recognised that they had won but you have to make it (as in win the bid) and achieve the bid to win. You can't win by winning point from tricks when the computer 'made' it.

Working with the AI to outsmart the AI opponent....Hmmmm I've just scared myself. Great game! Love the basic layout. No need for fancy graphics and large game size to fill up my phone. Need more games like it.

The game is fun to play, but frequently the computer gets the wrong points from completing their bid. The most recent example of this is that the computer got 10 sets when it bid 6 spade, and therefore awarded itself 250 points. Otherwise, fun.

A bit annoying when your partner over trumps you on several occasions during a game unnecessarily.

The AI are not programmed well. You lie the smallest Trump and the highest will be played every time. The AI partner consistently trumps over you.

When you reach 500 the game continues on with no winner. I've gotten all the way to 960 before the computer acknowledge we had won the game

I like it but my partner is an idiot.trumping my tricks and leading trumps to the opposition when they made it.also makes it 8 something when it had stuff all.

On a smartphone the deck is so small. It's very easy to hit the wrong card or button and there isn't any way to correct yourself.

I enjoy the game until, inevitably, AI insists on leading offsuit before getting rid of trump. It is standard knowledge that offsuit cards are ALWAYS good once trump is gone.

Nice layout. Like playing in landscape mode vs. others apps. Don't like that the deal skips around and would like 5 card blind option.

Very addictive. There are some minor ai flaws but the layout and gameplay are excellent!

I have had this app for a long time. Very reliable 500 game. Good game if you enjoy 500.

App just can not distinguish having a human as a partner. Always out trumps the human. Spent more time trying to outwit my app partner. Still a good game for an app.

Its a joke your partner trumps my tricks who programs these stupid games

Best 500 game I've found. Fast, clear gameplay. Serious flaw causes ai to bid 8 on very little and trumping when partner holds trick or undertrumping is stupid

Play your lowest card and comp plays highest even if has a lower card that would win or if partner would win trick.

Having to wait until 7 tricks are called before playing misere? Why? The mechanics of making this happen are also incredibly tedious as the computer will often not let you bid 7 as it takes your bid of 6 as your only intent. WRONG just fix this please.

It's a pain when my partner is constantly trumping me. If i was playing an actual game this probably wouldn't happen as often. Any possiblity of a fix for this???

More of the same not at all real play. Waste of time.

Would rate higher if optuons for kitty could be 3 or 5 cards and 7 bid to win kitty

Why does the computer take your tricks when it doesn't have to

Dan. H. Apr 29, 2015

Overall this seems to be a solid game of 500. I'm really enjoying playing my favourite card game with AI. So far I've only experienced 1 obvious bug where the AI bid misere with no 7 bid. Other things are unnecessay playing of trumps by your AI partner and a few times I thought the wrong player win the trick but that is unconfirmed as there is no view of trick history. Might be a feature for past match that would help. Overall very happy with this app.
