Flair

Flair builds heating and cooling devices to make homes more comfortable using as little energy as possible.
Flair's Smart Vents and Wireless Thermostats (Puck) work with smart Thermostats like Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell and more to bring room by room control to central heating and cooling systems.

For Minisplits and other remote remote operated ACs, Flair acts as a Smart AC remote to give you preheating, precooling, auto on/auto off and better temperature control.

For all systems types, Flair responds to occupancy and even specific occupants to give powerful personalization capabilities while allowing for minimal energy consumption.

The scheduler does not work sometimes. My mini split was on full blast (heat mode) when I set the temp to 72 and the room temp was 75. Sometimes, the units were not turned on or off according the schedule. For units with motorized horizontal vanes, the app resets the position of the vanes every time it turns on the units. If the app cannot control the vanes, leave them as is. Why do you need an end time for a scheduled event? It should just be the start time of the next event.

Very long delay between elements of the system. They're is a 5-10 minute lag between the temperature and the action taken by the flare system which, depending on the size of the room can cause massive overshoot or undershoot. I give it more than one star because it does kind of work, definitely helps keep the basement warmer. Would work a heck of a lot better once the latency is resolved. There are also corner cases that can cause issues such as needing to turn off self recovery.

So many bugs you can't even set up the hardware. The "official" workaround was to use the web app. Even then, the UI was so bad that it would frequently get into stuck and inconsistent states that required restarting the app. Their API documentation was surprisingly good, but if you're willing to put in that much effort, you might as well get an Arduino for a lot less. I returned mine and bought a Sensibo.

Setup experience was terrible. After that, the schedule (which is the only thing I got it for) is hit or miss. Sometimes the mini split fails to turn on or off. Also I wish the app had manual controls in addition to the schedule. Like sometimes i just want it to send to OFF signal to the thing, especially when the schedule failed to fire.

This has been the most absurd setup process. Their system just does not work. I run two electronics repair shops; I know how to follow instructions and troubleshoot issues, and this app and product are just absolutely not worth the headache. Two different sessions, over two hours each, and still can't get them to communicate. There also is NO way to delete and remove everything to start fresh. Do yourself a favor and DON'T buy these pucks or use this app.

Home and Away function ignores fact that most homes have pets. There should be room by room controls in Away mode.

The app is not user friendly and intuitive. But once it's figured out it works great

Loveling it! One small comment/request: I wish I could have been able to control open/close temperatures. The problem is when a thermostat controls set points and external sensors are used then all vents can be closed (because they would only open 1 degree below the set point) and thermostat would still work for heat. IMO much better would to open AT a set point and close at one degree above for heat and at one degree below for cool. Except for that I love it!

Frustrating and confusing. The install did not go smoothly at all and the app is not very responsive. I had to tap 10 times at every step before it would respond and then it would skip ahead. There are 3 different temperatures set in the app for one device. The puck was set at 67 but the app shows a set point of 74 and a permanent hold of 84 which I never set. Will it try for 67, 74, or 84? The help is no use. I have no idea what it's going to do if anything.

3 Months in and working well. I haven't used the original remote for the mini split since. You can pair it to your Google home and control it from there so lately I've been just yelling "of Google turn on the living room mini split!" Or something and not even really thinking about it. Overall it works well and the best feature is it's simple and seamless connection to other home apps such as Google home.

Access to all IR commands available via the remote control, as opposed to Daikin's limited wifi module, was the selling point for going with flair's pucks. For some reason the app/product doesn't extend any added functionality into the UI: Forgetting for a moment that you cannot turn on comfort/sensor mode or control swing type, you can't even easily toggle between cool and dry modes without shifting to a manual setting which then prevents any scheduling from being set. Very disappointing.

Unfortunately the software and integrations with other smart thermostats is buggy and needs improvent qnd better QA. Recently the ecobee integration has broken silently on me. Anytime I change the temperature in Flair, it only increments or decrements the ecobee temperature by 1 degree versus setting it to the temp I set. For example, home will be set to 67 degrees. I up flair to 75 degrees. Ecobee changes to only 68 degrees. Frustrating :(

Oof. This tough to review. It's a love-hate thing. I love what it does & what it's supposed to do, but it's difficult to set up. Not for the faint of heart. It does what it's supposed to but it takes quite a bit to get there. Once set up then it's integrated with your assistant. If I didn't have much experience on my side then I might have given it three (or less) stars. However I am savvy in this stuff so it wasn't too terrible for me. Four stars until the interface is easier for newbies.

App setup took very little time at all. Just be sure to not navigate out of the application during the setup process. The application doesn't save progress, but is still super easy.

Cha. L. Aug 16, 2020

4 stars for the following reasons, (1) the amount of time it takes for changed settings in the app to take effect in the Ecobee API, apparently Ecobee only allows communication every 5 minutes. (2) The Flair app never truly shuts the Ecobee off, setting the mode to OFF in the app results in an AWAY setting on the Ecobee, Flair says this is a safeguard so the home never gets too hot or cold. (3) Rooms cannot be sorted alphabetically or in any custom manner. A drop & drag feature update is needed.

'Hangs' on install after finding device on wiifii. No way to proceed. Tried with another android phone got further but no dice. Tried with the Web Based App and success - on my windows laptop. The Android Device Discovery and connection needs work. I have upgraded my rating of the App because I can now actually USE it after using the Web Application to connect and configure the Flair Puck with my Mini-Split. For people with connection issues try out the web app.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. The vents went crazy today. They open and shut repeatedly, for no reason and the app cannot communicate with them. They have always been horribly noisy and always wake up the baby. We had to pull the batteries out.

This product is very much in a BETA phase. The app is poorly designed (flair should hire a professional app developer) and the puck hardware is a joke. It feels and operates poorly. I would much rather change the battery every month than have an e-ink display and laggy operating system. The vents are ok, but they should use a metal casing material instead of plastic for the battery housing moving forward. I would gladly pay extra for this. For the most part it it gets the job done.

Awful. Set up is impossible, and not all systems are compatible. I have a standard ComfortStar split system, and yet Flair knew nothing about it. The devices are also flimsy and cheap-looking. Avoid at all cost.

Don. C. Dec 16, 2020

The company is great to work with. The product is easy to install and use. I have used this system throughout out my home. My only wish is that to system had the option to enable the main system. How ever when the system is running the flair vents do a great job.

Jas. R. Dec 2, 2019

Not very good at all. The app is not intuitive at all it's comicated for no reason. The only thing anyone wants out of this app and your devices is... Have the vent open or close based on the tempature of the room. That's it.... KISS

Sar. K. Aug 12, 2019

In a few words, this app/device is NOT ready for the consumer marketplace. - Customer service is extremely slow (at a rate of one reply evey other day) - The app does not know the state of the puck, so, problems with setup cause the app and puck to become out of sync. - The app does not have my AC remote PN or AC unit PN and after weeks of support emails, the puck still does not work withy unit.

Sam. O. Dec 30, 2018

The app works do inconsistently, it is practically useless. The app does not update when changes are made via alexa or Google hole. What happens on my wife's phone died not reflect on my. The A/C may be on but you wouldn't know if you opened the app, and another family member is using it on another device. Google home and Amazon alexa are more reliable to control Flair devices than the Flair app. For such a promising product you would expect a better software component in this day and age.

Bra. S. May 6, 2021

Pretty glitchy app. Constantly loses Ecobee connection, 1 of 2 vents will only close half way, have to constantly force close app to get it to update. Needs a lot of work.

Tyl. H. Mar 6, 2022

Like most everyone else here says, getting the pucks setup initially was painful and took about 30-45 minutes per puck. After that point, it's been perfectly integrated with Ecobee.

Jos. P. Nov 28, 2021

It's a great idea in theory but the app is problematic, the system doesn't really do what you want it to, and the support is not setup for a product at this stage. It's really a bummer because there's so much wasted opportunity here.

Dan. B. Jan 26, 2022

Terrible. I tell it I don't have a hub, and then it prompts me to setup the hub I don't have. Completely worthless. I think it's about the worst product I have ever reviewed.
