The app works nicely to give you access to updated magazines if you are in the network of an institution that has a subscription but the rendering is poor. Pages are rendered as medium resolution photos instead of digitalized text so when you zoom in things get blurry. There is an option to display only the text of the magazine in high quality but then you miss out on the pictures. There's definitely room for improvement.
Good when it works, but i have had numerous issues with the app. It keeps asking me for a login/password instead of just my library card number. I contacted the support dept and they continue to tell me to do things I've already told them I tried. My issue is that the page that should load (where you enter you library card #) after you choose your library does not appear. Instead it asks for a login/password and gives me an error message. No one can tell me what to do. Useless app and support.
This app worked great until recently. Now it crashes when I am reading magazines, and if I go back to that magazine, it keeps crashing. If I delete and reload the magazine, it will work for a while, and then start crashing again. Please fix.
As most reviews below attest, this app is not ready for prime time. That said, and FOR FREE via one's library account, AND, using some serious patience, I was thrilled to find that I had access to Consumer Reports magazines; something I'd missed for decades since being a subscriber! Easy to use and read? NO. Minimally usable with some patient learning curve adoption efforts? YES! This app would be golden with some real development attention.
I can barely turn the pages. My eyesight isn't the best and when I try to zoom in it takes me to the end of the magazine. I have tried a ton of times, happens every time. I am tired of having to turn all the way back to where I was more than several times. I am not sure I will even open it and try again. It has a wonderful selection so I gave it three stars. I just can't read any of them because it's too frustrating.
Great idea but very frustrating to read. The font is too small. If you zoom in, the larger font is OK but the screen size also enlarges and you have to scroll right and left to read. Yeah, I know the magazines are free and that you get what you pay for but this is my honest review of the product.
My library switched to this from RBdigital. It is a disappointment. - text view has no format or font control. Zoom is supported but not an adequate substitute for common font/format controls - no way to flag/favorite magazines you want to read. - No email notifications of new issues
The Flipster android app from Google Play/Ebsco doesn't work. I can use it on my PC in my browser (I have to go to my local library site and log in from there) and I can use it on my android tablet in my browser (same as on the PC) but the app doesn't work. I downloaded it on 2 different android devices. I can find my library (I see from other reviews that many people don't even get that far) and when I get to my library I see a blue button that says Log In. I touch the Log In button and I get an error. It can't "verify my credentials" Of course it can't. I haven't logged in. There is no way to log in and there is no information available to help you log in. I'm happy that it works in my browser and 'll use the site there on both my PC and my tablet but I won't try the app again. It's not good.
I have valid card numbers and login credentials at both my city and county public libraries. They work on other apps. This app will not allow me to log in with either. Please fix. The app is a waste if you cannot even log in.
Blurry when zoomed in. RBDigital and Zinio had much better resolution. Page jumps around when panning around. No way to subscribe and get notified of new issues. Reading a PDF would be more desirable.
Screen dims while reading after just a few seconds. Can't read anything without constantly hitting the screen to wake it back up.
I had enjoyed this app, until I most recently had to add my library information AGAIN. I used to have dozens of magazines, now I only have like 8, that are useless to me. What a shame.
Beautifully designed for perusing magazines. Works best on a tablet - the print is a bit small for phones. Love the live links within the magazines.
No progress bar for downloads? Can't adjust font in text reading mode? This app is missing basic features. But at least I can read Businessweek for free.
Could not get logged in. Could not find a person to contact for help. Could not get an account. Could not look at any magazines. My only two options were to request a magazine the I think our library should carry, or request information about Flipster/EBSCO by pretending to work at the library.
WoW this app used to be great when it worked. It tells me that it is downloaded on my cell phone twice and a Tablet. It is not downloaded on my laptop and will not let me. VERY frustrating!
very plain, lacking ability to set favorite magazines and be email notified when available, just like RBdigital. magazine selection is minimal.. where's PC Magazine ?
Tired of low stars user reviews. Hurr durr the app that gives me a bunch of free stuff but can't change the font hurr durr the app isn't catered to my exact needs hurr durr I can't save this or that hurr durr. THE APP IS GREAT. IT PROVIDES YOU EXACTLY WHAT IT DESCRIBES. YOU ARE GETTING FREE MAGAZINES LEGALLY. If you don't like it because you can't change the font....BYE! Leave. Stop using the app and stop crying. This is what happens when everyone gets a trophy for participating, happy?
Flipster needs to allow moving the app and data to adopted sdcard storage. Magazines consume huge amounts of storage, and there is literally no reason that data and the app can't be on the sdcard.
Free magazines from my local public library! And I can download them and read them offline on a plane, away from the internet in Timbuktu, etc. Easy to use!
A good library service for several mags I read regularly, but the Android app is suddenly failing for Toronto Public Library - as noted on TPL website. I use my Android tablet happily for all other TPL services and will rerate this app when it is fixed.
Doesn't work. I use my library account for several apps. This one says account is closed or needs updated. They need to update their app. Removed from device.
I have used and enjoyed this app on my android tablet; am unable to get to sign- in page on Chromebook device, even though Overdrive and Libby both work well.
The brightness keeps going down and have to keep tapping on the screen to make it stay lit. Can you fix it ?
Can't change the font, that is a deal breaker, considering that the past apps the library used, had that feature!?
I cant log in keep getting an error message with app I can log in through the web browser but not the app. help.
Great. Works fine. I use it on my desktop and tablet. Not practical on phone due to size.
Was able to log in effortlessly, and nice that there is access to a multitude of magazines. However, the app leaves alot to be desired, outside of navigating and reading, it does nothing more (except "bookmark). An immediate function that is lacking is the ability to favorite magazine titles, so you dont have to look for them everytime. Stitcher is a good analog. App does its job, but leaves alot lacking, very unfortunate.
