Foodbank

This is an app to help support the network of hundreds of food banks across the UK.

* Choose your local Foodbank from the list and the app will automatically update itself with the information from your selected Foodbank.

* The shopping list is updated regularly by your local Foodbank team and highlights those items most needed.

* Updates and stories from your local Foodbank are also downloaded direct to the app to keep supporters informed of news.

* Notifications are also used to notify supporters of new updates from the Foodbank team and also if the Foodbank is low on stock of certain food items.

* Supporters can now also donate financially to their chosen Foodbank via this app using JustGiving. Donations are routed through 'Network Church Sheffield' as the umbrella charity which then distributes the funds to the specified Foodbank.

* Each Foodbank can add multiple locations if they have more than one outlet or collection/drop-off point

* Full localisation
- e.g. Welsh translation available for Welsh Foodbanks

More information about Foodbanks...

1 in 5 people are living below the poverty line in the UK.

Every day, near where you live there are families struggling to put food on the table.

For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis
- redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill
- can mean going hungry.

Every day parents skip meals to feed their children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent and eating.

How a Foodbank works:

Food is donated

Schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to a Foodbank.

Food is also collected at 'Supermarket Collections': These are events held at supermarkets where volunteers give shoppers a 'Foodbank shopping list' and ask them to buy an extra item or two for local people in crisis.

Food is sorted and stored

Volunteers sort food to check that it's in-date and pack it into boxes ready to be given to people in need.

Frontline care professionals identify people in need

We partner with front-line care professionals who identify people in crisis and give them a voucher.

Clients receive food

Foodbank clients bring their voucher to a Foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days emergency food. On taking their voucher to the Foodbank centre, people receive a warm welcome, a hot drink and a food parcel. We also put people in touch with agencies who can help resolve the underlying causes of the crisis.

What's in a foodbox?

Each foodbox contains a minimum of three days nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food.

Foodbanks rely on the support of local communities.

Your local Foodbank provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis.

Great resource for picking the right products for the bank. Only quibble is that on Android it takes over the whole phone display, so you can't easily switch between this, a shopping list and Smartshop App If that gets fixed, would be 5*

Really good idea to do this, but no info on where/when donations can be made. Would love to help if only this info was given! In the past have found it incredibly difficult to find out this info so gave up trying to donate. The app can solve this... but doesn't. We're vegans so would particularly like to donate. Hate to think that other non meat eaters are being put in a situation where they have to choose between eating meat or starving! Please add Donation Time/Place details!! 5 stars if so.

Constantly locks up and shopping list not updated often enough to be really useful. Last updated nearly 2 months ago.

Really good idea to list what is needed and what they have plenty of...perfect way of providing an all round package without duplicates.

Keeps stopping. Can't say if app is useful, as it stops as soon as I open it. suspect it needs updating for the many Android updates since 2015.

This app is such a great idea however none of my local food banks are shown on this app which means I cannot use it. Unfortunately I have uninstalled.

Wanted to see what stuff was most needed in my local foodbank, hasn't been updated in almost 2 months. Totally pointless.

So useful to be able to check on up to the minute needs while in the store.

Easy to use and navigate the site

Requested food package and received it two hours later, exceptional polite service throughout.

Easy to use and helpful in knowing what to donate

Good in practice but charges food banks £360 for a two year subscription to the service. Better visiting the Trussell Trust website

Really useful to know what to shop for so that it is needed.

My local food bank isn't listed here. I would be happy to try to help make a connection with the local food bank. Please get in touch as to how to do this.

Would help if it could be updated more often.

Doesn't open after installation on android.

Okay so this is HILARIOUS in hindsight. Never used it or knew if I would because it's impossible for everyone but Eduardo to know how. There's more boring answers you're trying to find but hey, I'm the defense, not the prosecution ^^

The app won't work

Does the job OK

Sar. D. Feb 28, 2020

Tells me exactly what my local food bank needs most, and what they are over-stocked with already. A great way to ensure that my small donations are as useful as possible.

A. G. u. Jan 7, 2020

Brilliant. I know exactly what is needed each week.

Ama. Jun 10, 2015

Let down because nearest foodbanks listed are hours and hours away from here and certainly are not my nearest. Has great potential but you need to get all foodbanks listed on here and not charge them to sign up because I doubt that will happen and the app will just die with no users. Design is also quite unprofessional looking too.

I am really happy to help and was excited to think that I could help with targeted assistance. Seems my "local" food bank is 52 miles away. Perhaps an update should include registering new food banks and making them aware of the app. Maybe it does and I'm missing something.

Very simple and very handy! Our church collects on behalf of foodbank and it's a very necessary resource, sadly. One or two items a week, if you can manage it will make a big difference to someone's life. Go to the trussell trust website to find nearest foodbank - tesco & asda have permanent collections in store so buy stuff there and drop it in the designated trolley! 😉

Great app. Lets me know exactly what my local foodbank needs when I'm out doing the shopping. To those who say it doesn't cover their local foodbank, that's possibly because your foodbank hasn't signed up (or can't afford to register) - not the fault of the app.

Ann. J. Jan 8, 2018

Great idea but not updated regularly for my local store which totally defeats it's purpose. Disappointed especially as I have recommended it to others.

Jo. L. Jul 20, 2017

Like the idea but content for my local food bank hasn't been updated since May! And it takes up a lot of space for something that's just a list - can get the same info from their Facebook page.
