The app says connect to bluetooth. I do but it sits there and does nothing as if I wasn't on bluetooth. I'm out of ideas as to what else to do. Read other reviews, apparently it's junk. Have to agree with others update definitely needed. Amazon where are you in all of this? Even Dec 2021 update fails to connect. This is with mobile apps set to on, so try another idea.
This App used to work great when I purchased my truck in late 2020. Sometime last year after an update and ever since when I connect and want to play my music it stops after 1 1/2 minutes or so and can't connect again. FYI Android phone. Hope they fix or just go back to the old when it worked! Not sure why all companies now think updates are good just to change when they are working just fine and change the look of them!
This app gets worse every time there's an update. Now, the music stops after 30-90 seconds, and requesting a new song doesn't help. Also, I'm prompted EVERY time I get in the car to go on my phone and enable mic access, even though it's set in the app settings. Edit: Using Amazon Music
It worked fine for a few months then just stopped out of nowhere and disappearedfrom my display. It won't even show up when I search my mobile apps on my trucks display (2020 f250 lariat tremor). The search finishes with no "No additional apps found." I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, checked updates on both the truck and app and allowed all permissions, yet there has been no change. All of my other apps work but this Ford+Alexa app is completely useless.
Not very easy to use. I know my phone is connected via Bluetooth to my car but app says "connect your mobile device via Bluetooth." No instructions seen to be available for app.
This app is garbage. The most recent "update" claims to have fixed the wake word issue, but it's only gotten worse (and more dangerous). Why does Ford (or Amazon--we really don't know who actually supports this hot mess) assume that I want to pull over and touch the notification on my phone, when in the past all I had to do was make sure the app was started on my phone. Requiring a screen tap while driving is very unsafe--the wake word usually only works once unless the phone is woken up again.
I mainly wanted to use it for music and changing stations but the music would cut off intermittently for sometimes 30 seconds or more. If I used the Amazon Music app, that didn't happen. Hope the app will eventually get fine tuned because it would be great to have in the car. As it is, I would not recommend.
I'm not sure who is supposed to troubleshoot this. Ford or Amazon? There's a new feature to use the wake word. In order to do that I'm prompted to go to the app so it'll allow the wake word. Which only works once. What's the point of having the wake word if I still have to press a button and it only works once? Not to mention like everyone else's review, it struggles to work. It restarts on sync, have to have perfect internet or it won't work. Why is this not being worked on?
Does not work anymore. When it did, it was glitchy. Emailed them twice and never responded. Finally got a response a month later. Mobile apps have been enabled and still nothing. No connectivity. * STILL NO CONNECTIVITY!!! BUGS ARE NOT FIXED WITH THIS APP!!! ARE THE "DEVELOPERS" JUST GIVING US B.S. RESPONSES TO STROKE OUR EGOS?!?!!?
Ok at first. Now connects correctly only about half the time or less on start up. Will still work, but doesn't show song info, just blank. Seems like it could have more features on screen, even though it's supposed to be voice control. EDIT: Removing a star. Hasn't been connecting on startup still. I'll have to manually run app on my phone and after several attempts, it might or might not work in my car. Really pissing me off. I've been using Android Auto a lot more. 2018 Ford Focus ST3.
I have sync 3. Just installed and set it up on my samsung s9. I had to turn off the volume limiter on the phone in order to increase the volume to hear it in the car. Giving it nav directions worked fine. Asking Alexa for the weather and other questions worked well. Using amazon music also worked well. The reason for three stars is that it seems to disable the audio of the car. It was sporadic in giving me a choice to select audio sources with the app taking over. When I did get an option for sources, switching to the radio disables the app and wouldn't work without selecting the source to get back to the app. So it made using the audio system and the app together impossible. The purpose of an app like this is to make it hands free. But having to select from the screen to go between sources (when sources was available) requires you to divert your eyes to the screen to select source for either the radio or the app. The app needs to be able to run without interfering with the radio sources to make it worthwhile.
I really tried to like this. I really did. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't showing the titles of music I was playing. I was extremely disappointed that navigation wouldn't work. I said "Alexa, navigate to..." She verified the address and a notification popped up on the radio saying that the location was being sent to my phone. There was nothing on my phone. So - no navigation? Brilliant. Android Auto beats the heck out of this. Ford/Alexa developers need to follow Android Auto, because there's no way this can beat it in it's current state.
It sounds better than it is. Alexa is not really that useful while driving. Need navigation? Here use your in-car navigation or look at your phone. Play Spotify, nope. (at home she'll at least open the app on your phone) Amazon needs to at least partner with a navigation app to be useful for owners that don't have nav in their cars. Amazon still has a long way to go to compete with Android Auto in the car.
Barely works. Online FAQ page does not work. There is very little support and no information online for troubleshooting any issues and there are A LOT of issues. It is very frustrating to use. I have a 20 minute commute to and from work and I usually can only listen to anywhere from 1/2 of a song to maybe 2 songs with pauses. I even have a mobile hotspot. Sync says I have full bars on my wi-fi by using my hotspot. My phone says I have 4 or 5 bar signal. Still won't work.
This app has gotten more useless as time goes on. Today, I couldn't get it to work at all. It's not the car or Bluetooth causing the problem, it's the app. My Bluetooth connection never goes away or stops working, this app just crashes constantly. Usually I can get it to work if I force the app to close & then reopen it and if that doesn't work, turning off my wifi connection usually works (why? Who knows because I didn't pay for the wifi service in my car). But today? Nope! Worthless!
Lots of problems: -Once installed and launched, it will notify you repeatedly until you have configured it to work with your car. -It requires you to make setting changes on both your phone and SYNC console. If you aren't familiar with where to find these settings it will be frustrating. -The console interface is awful. With android auto I only lost easy access to my climate control system. With Ford+Alexa I lost easy access to all my android apps and controls. -After lots of testing, I can do everything that I would normally do (potentially with Ford+Alexa) with "Ok Google" or the talk button on the steering wheel. -This app seems to try and run all the time, and is battery intensive. If you it is not running, you need to launch it before it will operate connected to the car. -I don't have the Nav on my SYNC 3, so asking for navigation only brings up the navigation application (of your choice) on my phone. -You need to interact with the phone when your voice commands need to know which application to navigate/play music/etc. Ford, you did a great thing bringing Android Auto to the SYNC 3 system. Please just keep improving on that.
UPDATED: After speaking with Ford CS a few times to no avail, I spoke with Amazon Alexa CS who went through steps to try and diagnose. Turns out the voice command account was not set to my profile, once set to mine it started to work. However, after shutting off and turning the truck back on, it now only gives me the option to exit with no other commands as it did before and I've lost media tools (skip, play/pause, etc...). So it works, but not great.
Even lamer than before. Now it won't even connect. Both phone and car show that phone is connected and all Bluetooth related functionality works just fine. But app sits there waiting for Bluetooth connection. Forced stop, cleared data and cache, etc. Disabled android auto as instructed. Nothing. Waste of time. Ford needs to get its act together. Latest Sync 3 update broke lots of things with no way to revert back to previous firmware. Factory reset also a waste of time.
Does both work!!! Half the time it doesn't show up on my screen the other half it just keeps listening then stops working. Get a message do you want to restart I say yes the it disconnects. I have had my car for 4 months. Has been in shop 3 time to fix problem. Each time I am told it needs an update. They update and then same problem. This app is junk.
Have this in a '17 Focus Electric. Works pretty well, great for showing off. Easily play music from Amazon. Add to your shopping list, set your thermostat, do quick math or conversions, whatever you want - the car becomes a proper Echo device. Oh and this is way easier to use for navigation than Ford's system, feeds a destination straight to the car's navigation system from a verbal query. Ford's voice system for finding a destination is atrocious.
worked great once I figured out how to do a software update to the Sync3. 1/9/2019 update - gave up and uninstalled the app from my phone. Tried for a month and gave up. The explorer would see the app, connect ford + alexa, but then it would disappear from "my apps" shortly after connecting. I tried keeping my phone off home wifi, but that didnt gelp either. I think I only got music streaming successfully from Amazon twice without losing the app.
Frustrated! SYNC 3 v: 3.0/ 2018 Ford Expedition/ Galaxy Note9 phone. Can't get the app to properly download. Android Auto 'disabled'. The 'Enable Mobile Apps' button on SYNC is grayed out and slider won't move. Researched solutions, carefully followed download instructions, uninstalled/reinstalled several times, still not having any success with installing this app. Would have been awesome to have the functionality of my other Alexa devices in my car, but I give up!!
Getting this properly configured can be a pain, but once you get it working its great! You'll have to decide whether you want Android Auto, or Ford+Alexa to launch when your phone auto bluetooth pairs to the car. I chose Ford+Alexa. Android Auto will continue to auto launch when you physically plug in. (Which is required to use the infotainment screen anyway) Without ever touching your phone, you can start up your car, and within about 15 seconds start issuing alexa commands through your phones data connection. Works great for playing music. Would love to see support added for creating/adding songs to playlists. Probably a good idea to ensure you have an unlimited data plan before you start using this.
App is terrible. Sometimes works most time doesnt. Tell it to call someone it says calling and does nothing. Worthless other than telling it.to play amazon music. Absolute garbage. Fix it Amazon!!!
One star is too many. Doesnt work at all. Alexa will listen and then do absolutely nothing. Going back to android auto....👎👎👎
Doesn't run reliably. When it works I like using it for my home automation, i.e., turn on the lights, disarm my alarm, etc. I think there is a lot of potential here but notice that the app hadn't been updated in a year. I hope its shown some love. We use Alexa a lot at home and I think Alexa's user base is pretty big and growing. Come on guys, if you offer it, make it work.
Worked great at first. Now it wont connect. Its too bad because it was pretty cool when it worked. The Ford Pass app on the other hand, works great. This app hasn't been updated in 6 months. Pretty clear ford has given up or abandoned this app. Update: Installed on new Samsung S10+ and Note 10+ and the app works well. I'm not sure what the issue was on my S9+.
This app would sometimes connect and other times not on my 2019 Raptor since I took delivery in 03/19. Could never determine why it connected or didn't. For the past several months it will never connect to my Samsung S8. All other BT works fine. Ford technical help is less than worthless. When they try to transfer me to "an expert" I always get disconnected. I have yet to find a Google search that has identified the issue. Next stop the Ford dealership. Not expecting much there either.
Updating my review, it seems developers finally listened and fixed any issues causing the app to not work. Not perfect but 1000 times better than it was.
The app is o-k at best. I just got a new phone and now a new annoyance. With my old phone (moto z4 play), all I needed to do was select Ford Alexa on the sync display and all as good. I never needed to touch the phone. Now with the new phone I have to physically open the app in order to enable the wake word. Whatever happened to hands-free? Ford/Amazon, you have made an unsafe app. This should be fixed immediately, it is unsafe.
