FOViewer NG

FOViewer NG is a handy astronomy tool for every stargazer or astrophotographer. It allows you to calculate things like the magnification of your particular telescope and eyepiece combination. FOViewer NG will also show your field of view superimposed on astrophotos of well-known objects. That way you can get a good prediction of which eyepieces to use to optimally view your celestial targets. You can add your own equipment to FOViewer NG to get spot-on predictions for your telescope / eyepiece combinations. If a particular telescope / eyepiece combination results in a magnification that goes beyond the maximum useful magnification of your telescope, then FOViewer NG will notify you by giving the magnification a red background and showing an alert. There are also a couple of very handy features for astrophotography!
Apart from the magnification, the field of view and the F ratio of your telescope, FOViewer NG will show you the local time, your GPS coordinates, the current moonphase, a clear sky clock for your location, a bubble level and a compass to help you get that GOTO telescope properly aligned!

So to summarize, FOViewer NG;

• Calculates the magnification, F ratio and field of view for a particular telescope / eyepiece combination.• Calculates the exit pupil for a particular telescope / eyepiece combination.• Alerts you when your magnifications goes beyond the maximum useful magnification of your telescope.• Shows you your field of view as a circle drawn on high-res (up to 2000x2000px) full color photos of celestial objects. All objects of the Messier and NGC catalogue are available.• Shows the field of view of your CCD camera or DSLR camera as a rectangle drawn on photos of celestial objects. The field of view rectangle can be rotated. All objects of the Messier and NGC catalogue are available.• Let’s you add and remove your own telescopes, eyepieces, CCD camera's and barlow lenses.• Shows your local time to help you configure your GOTO telescope.• Shows your current GPS position.• Shows you where magnetic north is by means of a compass.• Shows you the current moonphase.• Shows you a clear sky clock for your current location.• Much more!

A few pointers on using FOViewer.• Tap the arrow icons in the top bar to cycle through eyepieces and cameras. • Tap the arrow icons in the lower bar to cycle through objects in the current catalogue. • Frequently calibrate your build-in electronic compass by drawing figure 8’s in the air.

Needs updated. Crashes when you select a solar system object. Planet sizes seem way off, much bigger than they should be even at opposition. And the NGC list is practically unusable without a way to type in a target.

Crashes, won't work with camera settings

The rebuit version looks ok, and seems to have much more feature than the previous version, looks promising, so keep up the good work! It's still quite buggy though... It appears that after a few gear editing the edit eyepiece/camera/telescope popup shows and hide immediately, without allowing to modify anything. Also, it would be nice to fetch wider images, for wide field imaging (100/200mm focal length)

I like this app and use it often. However, the sun does not appear as its correct size when selected. Also it would be better, i think, to allow the input of cameras buy pixel array size instead of a mm measurement. That is harder info to find these days. Please update the app soon! Thanks, Brian

This works fine with the Messier Catalogue. But solar system bodies appear tiny and there's no Moon option. NGC doesn't work either. I definitely have my settings correct, as Messier objects appear properly. Disappointed.

Redid the app. Great... Lost all settings, but never mind. It's not that I own 10 scopes

Needs to use the whole screen on tablets, CSC is just a blank screen .

A very useful app which I use frequently to check how objects will appear in various scopes. Dev is very helpful and responsive, and took feedback in order to add planets to the app which makes it even more useful. Recommended.

I enjoy using this, really handy as you can setup your cameras, your scopes and see how they look in the FOV before you start setting up. handy if you have multiple scopes!
