Not my favourite reading app. The app constantly shows "Verifying Loan" and I'm not able to read offline. I wish I could read these EPUBs in my own preferred app and just allow Freading to manage the copyright. However, the UI is easy to navigate with the simple buttons and there are lots of options to reformat the text.
Nice search tiles make searching easy. Cataloguing could use improvement. For example not all main genres are listed. Have to go to broad classification of Fiction and then find Mystery. Once there, sub-categories are convenient, but overall Freading needs to update materials and add more.
0 stars. This is the worst app I've ever tried to use. It appears to have lots of potential, none of it works as it should and none of the librarians, library IT, or university IT can figure out solutions. Freading is a recursive loop of failure.
The app hangs constantly. When it does, it will not return to the place where you last were reading. User interface is confusing. Overall a bad experience, but it's the only way to access books from my library.
The app is terribly out of date. I authorized Adobe, downloaded a book, and the books are nowhere. When I go to my books it says I don't have any. But if I look at my account is shows the ones I've just downloaded (but no way to read them).
Could be greatly improved by allowing user to stay signed in. Also night mode is unusable for me - text needs to be much brighter
just awful. does not work. even the librarian could not get it to work.
You think this can't deserve a 2.4 then you trying it, complete trash
integration with Volusia library did not work.
Said book was downloaded, but never let me read the book
Love this app.
I've been an Android user for 6 years and I've never been so frustrasted with an app. Setup of app and download of my book were both a pain. The app is so slow to render pages it makes the travel guide I checked out worthless. It's constantly verifying my checkout, so I doubt I can use this without an internet connection. Great idea, terrible execution.
This app is just brutal, not usable. Mobile site doesn't work either so you must download the book on desktop, then open mobile site now a link will be there to download it again, now you can open it in the app for a barely usable experience, very laggy and hard to turn pages or they turn when you don't want. But there is a book here I can't get at my local library and can read it here. So they got that going for them which is nice.
It does read books (sometimes) but not if there are any pictures in them. It is very prone to freezing and crashing, sometimes mid sentence for no discernable reason. Their website said it would need Adobe Digital Editions, so I downloaded that and set it up. Digital Editions is only for computers. However, DE works better so maybe they should think of using it for book reading...
I'm a Librarian, and I love the idea behind Freading, but this app for Android is so majorly broken it actually throws into doubt whether the library should continue with Freading. My problems: 1) Requiring the use of this broken app in the first place. It used to be possible to open Freading files with whichever epub reader you wanted to. Just go back to that. 2) The apps override on PDF file associations. I can't clear the file association by clearing defaults. 3) Unable to save my library in the app
This app has three major failings. The FIRST is that it changes the tablet default behaviour so that all pdf files get loaded into freading. No app nor app developer should take this choice away from the user. If they are willing to assume they know what is best for me, what other choices are they making on my behalf. I do not trust developers who make this these types of assumptions and will soon delete the app. The SECOND failing is that freading does not render many pdf files properly. Given the first fault, this fault makes the application worse than useless as it prevents me from using my tablet properly. The THIRD failing is that app's web page does not even have a support section. I have sent an email to the company to see if they are willing/able to address my complaints. It just keeps getting better. The contact email listed on Google Play actually doesn't work.
I am amazed at the low ratings. Perhaps people are comparing it to Kindle. That is unfair. The only thing I really miss is the ability to sync across devices, other features, dictionary, etc. Would be nice but not critical. Better then adobe digital. I think the reviews must be for the earlier. Version.
I can't find a way to contact tech support to assist with a problem. It's not allowing me to log into my local library and there's no help, just a useless FAQ, which is I already read to realize that I needed to download the app at all. If I get a response and the problem is resolved, I may change my rating.
Horrid! Negative 5 stars! Everytime you touch or turn the phone it keeps saying verifying. Very aggravating when you're trying to read a book. I hate the font type. Only 14 days versus 21 days with the other ebooks. Have had problems getting books to open at times. I detest this app and wish Library would just do away with it use Kindle only or something else. Overdrive is excellent. This is horrid!
Worst app I've ever tried. I tried to download several books from my library and I wasn't able to read any of them. I was lucky if 3 random pages out of an entire book was visible. I deleted this garbage app right away. There isn't even an option to contact tech support.
Was nearly impossible to get app to work. When i Finally downloaded a book, the pages don't load correctly. It goes from one page, then next page starts mid-paragraph
Downloaded it cause the idea of getting free ebooks in pdf form through my local library seemed appealing. I consider myself technologically savvy but this app is way too complicated and annoying to set up, too many prompts and i have to validate Adobe on my tablet...? blah! No thanks! I just want to install, sync with my library and go. Lucky for me my library also cooperates with other apps than this one. I'm using Overdrive now and so far it's much easier.
App is hard to navigate and crashes every few pages. Needs major upgrade. It's too bad the library forces you to use this for some titles
I'm finding this app extremely frustrating and completely useless. I have downloaded the same book 5 times, authorized my account with an Adobe login (gotta love needing 2 different logins to get to your book), and also downloaded Adobe Digital Editions (because that works hand-in-hand with this??????), and no luck. My downloaded book does not appear in my Freading library, so apparently I will not be reading it.
I have several devices and apps that I have used for reading and only downloaded this for a particular library book. I'm so frustrated and cannot get the Adobe id to authorize. Such a waste of time.
Won't let me log in. It stalls on Find your library and progress ends there. Complete waste of my time. Uninstalled.
This app isn't deserving of any stars. Worked for a bit now all I get is either a blank white or black screen when clicking on my ebooks then freezes.
I like to read books that just came out or even recent books. Most of the books I could find were like either irrelevant or from the 1700s. I absolutely hated this app.
Too bad you have to have an Adobe ID to use this app or read an actual book. And it doesn't bother to tell you how to get an Adobe ID (you must go to the Adobe site and sign up for one). Then comes the frustration of trying to download and actually read the books... great concept, but totally frustrating process. Needs some serious work on streamlining. Edit: App crashes constantly on my Google tablet. Unable to make it work. Totally useless!!
