The app is great but when I want to rate a book, an authentication error is displayed. When I switch between tabs, the previously selected one is reset. I would like to see it as I left it. Many classic books lack cover. I would like my library to be classified as "read" and "reading". I would like to read some books just online without having to download them. Also some of the classic books' audiobooks are available for free. Please add them to the books. Thank you.
I personally prefer the older version which felt more straightforward and actually showed the number of out of the total pages read and didn't automatically skip to the next chapter by the time of reaching the last page of each one which prevents me from reading the last sentences. Plus, unlike the older version, the new doesn't always leave me exactly where I was. Overall, if it ain't broken, don't fix it.
Doesn't download anymore. This used to be a convenient way to download books from Project Gutenburg, far easier than trying to navigate the project website on mobile. However, this app no longer downloads the actual EPUB, but places a link instead. So no more off-line reading. The amount of advertising has also increased dramatically.
I've only begun using it and will update soon, but some easy possible improvements: -Add an option to view by list, because much of the entries don't display thumbnails or are generic either way. -In "My Library" add another section listing only the downloaded books, listing only the ones we "got". -Add an option then to "clear" the whole "Recent" section in "My Library" with a confirmation.
Not a good app for what I would like to use it for. Many books available in Project Gutenberg don't show up when I search for them (either because of a search which cannot recognize special characters or because the files themselves are not EPUB - not sure which), which means I can't access many titles I would like to read (particularly foreign language titles). A good app overall, as it does its job well despite its limitations; but not an app that I will use because it doesn't suit my needs.
Exceedingly worthwhile! HIGHLY recommended for those who prefer the classics. Especially interesting were the many lesser-known works by old favorites and the wide array of titles by authors I've never heard of (but will enjoy discovering, I'm sure!): fiction, non-fiction, and a huge number of journals and other publications from the past. Certainly something for anyone w/an appreciation of what WAS as much as--if not more than!--what IS.
Good: Usable interface. Ads don't come while reading. Didn't see any bugs. Bad: Ads occupy a significant portion of the (non reading)screens and come in your face(Can purchase a pro version to remove ads but it seems contrary to the sprit of a free project such as Guntenberg being used to earn profit).
This is a wonderful app to have if you love the classics. I have an older version, which I think I liked better. The downside is this app isn't great with instruction of how e-books work and what do do once you find a book to read. I've recommended this to several older family members, and they couldn't figure out how to scroll to read.
Very good collection of books, with a pleasant UI. Please fix the problem in which we automatically scroll to the next chapter, when on the last page of the previous chapter. It is becoming very annoying.
Some of the books don't fit with their genres and I'm a little disappointed that they don't have covers. That being said I'm still using this app as I just started. I miss the old version as it was more detailed and had a rich pick of books. Oh well this will do for now.
1.This app only has classics in it. Im really dissapointed. 2. Some of the geners are mixmatched. 3. kindly, remove that 'minutes left, pages left' because if you silde, it skip half of the pages which is really annoying. 4. Most of book are not avaliable. 5. and also add the page count.
Downloaded few books so I could reas them when I was away from Internet and they were working offline when I checked. I come back 2 weeks later when I actually wanted to read and the books were simply gone. Absolute Trash app. Could excuse the horrible Interface, Ugly design and minor glitches but this big a Fault is unacceptable.
This app is a wonderful discovery of a huge new library. Books are audibly read in a semi competent Siri voice. But she's either too fast to be kept up with or rather too slow that she drawls and lags behind. A ¾ speed between the ½ and the one will earn you two more stars.
Buggy software - scrolling skips over large sections and prevents you from refinding your place, making books useless and unreadable. I've tried to email the company many times, most recently in response to their comment to my review, but it always responds that the email box is full.
Some very nice selections to choose from. Wish all had cover art though. (And way to batch download titles, one at a time gets old when you are going after several in a given genre.)
This app is really a boon for all who want to start their reading journey but don't have many reading options .I started reading my first book in lockdown and it was a wonderful experience .I am actually loving it .
Overall its nice but I really wanted to read books from christopher pikes more precisely a book called 'Final Friends' which isnt in the app. If you could upload them that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)
Poorly developed app. Bad interface. The only thing it's doing well is show ads. And you can directly go to Project Gutenberg's website to get free e books.
This iz rhe finest Gutenberg book downloader and reader that Ihave used and I have used and I have tried them all.. It also has a simple but perfectly useful bookshelf. If you are an avid reader and like getting thousands of books free this app is for you. Download and in minutes you will be building a very fin E-epub liabrary. z
Really annoying automatic scrolling on the last page of the chapter means you cannot read all of last page. Needs to be fixed. Otherwise good.
It just happens this App was on my new phone. Even better it arrived right when I was in the middle of preparing some papers; in History and English Fiction during the 19th century... it's GREAT!
The thing that really annoys me about this app is it doesn’t save your reading progress, even if you are logged in. If you uninstall it or log in from another device your data will be gone, you’d have to download those books again
I'd love this app if it didn't give me a headache. The lack of a dark mode, something so common in pretty much every app imaginable these days, makes this app unusuable for me and I'm sure many others. Until they get a proper dark mode (something I have in ALL of the apps that I use), I would advise folk to stay away.
I am impressed with the simplicity of this app. Occaisionally it glitches and shoots me forward a few pages so I have to scroll back to where I was reading.
It would be nice if it worked. I only installed the free version. After a while, it stopped opening the book I was reading, so I uninstalled the app.
This is by far the best E-book reader application I have ever used. The text and images are very clear and concise and most of the books you will search for are available.
This app definitely needs a tutorial. Where are the books I have downloaded? They are not in my library, unless they are invisible, and what good is that? How do I access them, where is the help button, and why can't I join through my own email? I don't want to join through Facebook or Google.
it's a great source to read, there's no doubt in that, thank you! I recommend everyone to use this app to read clasic books. However, it'd help so much if there's a bookmark feature. Whenever I close the app/book, it lead me to the first page, which is inconvenient. Also the same that goes with highlight function, it disappears as I close the book/app. I hope this is fixed very soon.
