Brings back memories from the times of the original CIV. User interface is not optimal, though. Lacks a mouse and a keyboard but what to expect on a mobile app... What it also Lacks is a more on informative city stats screen. Where to know for example how long does it take for your city to grow. Also it would be nice if putting your finger on things in the tech tree would give you additional info about them, like names of buildings, their cost and bonuses that they grant.

For tablet users with no keyboard try using the 'back' button to Exit from secondary screens & notices. I almost deleted the game before I discovered this. I think this must be very difficult for someone who hasn't played it previously on a pc. I wish there was: 1. Some way to identify the tile, resources, bonuses, & effects of working it. Eg if I irrigate a swamp, jungle, forest. 2. Results of a battle. A unit just disappears & I don't know why. & which civ attacked.

Freeciv is awesome, but this port is not good. The tap-based controls are incomplete. There doesn't seem to be a way to automate workers, etc, without using the keyboard menus. The tutorials and help files are also incomplete, and the controls aren't even documented for this port. It is "literally un-playable."

I have been playing Freeciv on my PC for a while, so naturally I was pleased when I saw a version of it here. Although I know it's a build on the online browser based Freeciv and not the downloadable one on the Freeciv website I think the controls are lacking. Alongside this, after I got past a certain point in the game, It just wouldn't load. Aside from these issues, I do think that you've done a good job on this, and I look forward to further development.

This is similar to the classic Civ2 but with a few drawbacks. 1. You cannot pick the Civilization you start as. 2. You cannot do 99% of the diplomatic options such as requesting embassies, tech advances or seeing if your allies are at war with others. 3. The amount of time between turns in later parts of the game is ridiculous. All and all its still a fun game but could use improvements to said areas, especially if you play it on the phone.

For anyone not familiar with civilisation its an in depth strategy game which is very addictive but does require a fair chunk of time too play. This is a modification of an earlier version I played growing up. It has some non essential features removed too enable it to play on mobile and it works very well. Some small glitches where you might have to close and restart the app. Highly recommended good work freeciv developers

So much fun!!!! There are no adds or having to keep spending money just to keep the game temporarily fun. This game is so addicting you will want to always keep it on your phone. You can pick it up or set it down at any point, so no worry about having to set it down to work on something for a while. Just the retro pc game, its exactly like i rem remember it.

All in all I like the game but I wish there was some sort of zoom function to better understand what it is that I'm doing. Also if there was a way to show that I am indeed interacting with my unit via a form of feedback (vibration, click sound). Some sound in general would be nice aswell, not sure if it's just me but I don't hear any sounds at all in the game, just silence. Sure hope in a reasonable amount of time these issues will be addressed to make this a truly awesome experience for all.

Amazing port. The PC specific text, and messages box not dispoaying correctly are the first noticable problems. More in depth missing features are there being no build queve for city production, and lack of info pages. I give 5 stars based on how well everything implemented works, not on how much has been implimented. And it plays more intuitively and immersively than the pc version so 5 stars in my opinion. Keep up the great work!

1) I find the biggest problem is when later in the game the inevitable environmental-pollution-induced flooding wipes away half of the map, the game gets unplayable. 2) I'd give it an additional function where you can gift units to others. For example when the units are in the others territory, that one can click on them and transfer ownership

I appreciate that it's a volunteer project. But really not properly adapted to mobile phones. However, scratches that itch. Still has annoying rules, like if you have 10 units in a space and one loses combat, they all die. Can't see the text notifications in the game.

Game is a lot like civ2 but I found 2 issues with it. One I would build things like a granary or temple in a city and then later on I'd have to go back and build it again because it suddenly disappeared. The second issue is that even on the easiest level by the time I develop technology to build things like tyremes the computer had battleships and tanks

It's not quite as good as the original in terms of the other nations interactions but playability is great and it's still very enjoyable and addictive. It would be helpful to have a list of improvements built on the city screen and more information about the other nations e.g. those you are at war with.

Bad. Im sorry, i understand this is free and some effort has gone into it, but damn. I spent ten minutes just trying to move units. Read a bunch of documentation(which is clipped horribly so you cant read the end of any sentences), the only info i could find was "move units with numpad"? What? Is this made for a flip phone? App crashed multiple times, requires access to my camera and photos to launch. Sorry, just really bad.

So far, it has most of the features as it s browser counterpart. It has difficult UI and has a lot to improve in. I haven't a game yet but if it is being payed casually on a bus, it is hard to imagine comfortably.

Not EXACTLY the old civ 2, some things are simplified like diplomacy or missing like crusaders and interface options. But it is almost all there and you can play it on your phone!!! If you are young you may not know it, but this game and its even older boardgame ancestor spawned the ENTIRE civilization building genre. Very cool trip back in time to a game so good it hurt my GPA!

New game function does not work. Whether scenario, random, or tutorial, it gives me an OSError, with a long string of references to Python files. Then it dies. After seeing some other reviews, let me add: this is an old phone (2015 vintage) so it isn't failing because it's a new phone, as some complain.

Love it, has great potential. Would like to automate the workers, and / or see the terrain they are standing on to help determine what I want them to do. I loved the first civilization game that you could play in BASIC. This reminds me a lot of that game, just needs a few more updates.

Pau. M. Dec 7, 2021

Good old fashioned civ game but needs tile info and the tech gives you all targets and no info on what you get each step causing you to have to continuously refer to a different screen for the tech tree. Also the autobuild is irritating if you miss the fact a building was finished and it doesn't centre on the active unit

I don't understand why there are complaints about this not working on mobile there is a zoom function you click the build city icon to build a city everything works as expected only issue is that some of the text is black so when you haven't revealed the map yet it is hard to see

Sky. S. Oct 16, 2018

I really like it, but I can't play it for long. The screen randomly zooms and I can not zoom out. It also will suddenly glitch and the whole screen becomes pixelated. I have to restart a lot. Galaxy S8.

Ran. K. Apr 14, 2019

Some of the gameplay is fun, but some major aspects are missing. It doesn't announce when a city is taken, or show clearly the results of a battle. In fact, my civilization had all its cities taken, and the game didn't end.

Wil. S. May 16, 2020

I get that it is free but I have seen better free games. The controls are not even sensible. Press b to build a settlement? On what?!?! I uninstalled the game after this because I could not figure out the controls and it appears the game was never adapted from PC properly 🥺

Joe. E. Nov 6, 2019

It's a joy for me to find a version of civ for my mobile. Only requests, sound, make the interface and diplomacy better, change the icons so they make better sense to look at. Do a version of civ 2? This is great though and thanks for making it!

Gar. G. Jul 7, 2020

Fun if you remember playing way back when, possibly not if you don't. Interface is not perfect and some functions unavailable, but when the game was designed they never dreamed we'd be playing on a phone with touch screen. lol

Just like almost every Civs game, the AI cheated even in novice and handicapped. Not too mention they have bigger and greater armies despite lower production and trade. The tech algorithms should be fixed. I tried playing in hamdicapped and novice to see if the AI wont cheat, but found out that a single AI would always mirror your tech and even surpass your despite having lower trade and weaker infrastructure. Seriously this has to be fixed.

I've liked freeciv for the PC but for some reason everything on this port is saturated with a blue color, it's hard to make anything out at all with the color being like that.. I might have to try another device if I want to play

Dio. S. Jul 11, 2019

Love this app. Just like playing good old fashioned Civilization. Would be niceto have an option that gives an explanation of the terrain and the resources. But other than that I love it. And there's no ads at all.

Not. l. Feb 1, 2020

Free, open source, civ2. The game is truly free, in that not only does it not cost money, it also doesnt cost your data being collected either like 99% of "free" apps do. No ads. This is game is based heavily on Civilization 2. That means its a game from the 1990s. Everything about it is horrendously outdated. I would only recommend this to someone with nostalgia for it, or if youre curious. If you want a more "mordern" civ game, look into "Unciv". Its open source CIV5. Thank you for porting

Classic game! Most people in the comments clearly never played this game back in the late 90s and early 2000s, I used to play this in school during lunch breaks and after finishing work assignments in IT classes, it's one of the most in depth Civ games ever and still holds a bright candle this day in age too, if you don't know how to play it then don't give it a bad rating because of your own incompetence
