The manual is misleading. It says a mini drone network pops out. But it's not. It's a jet-xxxxx network. Once connected, it asks you to upgrade the firmware. I had to switch back to a network connecting to internet to get upgrade. After several tries, I finally got it working. The battery didn't last long, 10 minutes playing then out of juice. Nice little toy, but could be better.
The app is very unreliable. After a lot of research I found that if you put your phone in airplane mode and then connect to wifi the app recognizes it easier. Why they have all these items in the app that require internet access but you have to change to a wifi that has no internet access makes no sense. We got the product working and my kids are having fun with it when it works but I still have to give the app functionality and design 1 star.
Wants to do updates to the minidrone but can't due to using WiFi connection with phone and then the phone having no internet connection. One of the most frustrating apps I have ever used. Eventually got it updated after 2 hours of fiddling around. Wouldn't recommend unless you are very patient. Something like this should not be so hard. A very poor App.
I've previously used this with a Jumping Sumo and it was great - but a recent update (it's been a while) causes the interface to load badly - none of the buttons show and the aspect ratios are wrong on the interface. You can just about make it work if you know what to do, but it's no longer fit for purpose. It also was a struggle to get the free ride section to show in the app. Until Parrot fix this, I'd avoid.
Initially thought it was an absolutely useless app as well as parrot jumping drone but changed my mind. There were multiple difficulties due to outdated instructions and lacking an easy to find coherent help on line. Finally got it working after two days of research and experiments so it is an enjoyable toy. But you need some expertise to investigate and set it all up. Upgraded from 1 to 3 stars.
Similar to the experience of many others, the app does not render icons in control interface at all. This is likely due to the android version being run; whilst it works on devices until 2018, which is when they stopped developing it, it doesn't work on any newer android versions or devices...also, bad idea to control drone using tilt, it would be nice to have a manual slider or virtual joystick to control the drone instead.
Feels half finished. When connected to the drone network, it refused to do anything until the drone was updated, but gave no instructions on how to do so. After much switching between wifi networks, found you need to download on the main wifi, switch networks, then send the upload. No indication of this in the app. When piloting actually works, half of the icons look like loading spinners so I have no idea what the buttons do. The main screen's left menu stops responding to taps randomly.
Lots of bugs, no instructions. The controls show up as spinning loading icons. It only connects via WiFi 10% of the time because the WiFi doesn't broadcast. Terrible implementation, makes me not want to buy another Parrott product. Even the drone packaging said to use another app, so it took searching the internet to find out what to use. Then this app doesn't tell you how to connect or use the drone. It's more of an app filled with commercials.
The buttons do not load in drive mode. When i go into drive mode, fifty loading circles appear on the screen with varius functions, 2 do jumps, one rotates the drone, one is the throttle, and a bunch at the top of the screen that i cannot figure out. If they actually appeared, i could tell what they do. Edit: I get that the app isn't supported, but just make the controls visible, it's been a long time without me seeing controls
I love the drone and the app works fine except that the icons are not there when driving the drone and it makes the whole experience really unenjoyable. I thought I was the only person with this problem but many of these reviews say the same thing. Please fix this, it would make the entirety of the drone piloting experience marginally better. As it stands now, with the broken icons and messed up layout, it simply is not fun and feels like a chore to operate. Thank you.
This was really good but haven't used this toy in a while on my Samsung S8. Got it out tonight but App does not fully load as some buttons have crosses instead and others have a loading circle arrow thing. Still managed to drive it around but couldn't use the jump function. Is there an update coming ? Addition after response : Sorry but your response misses the point. The app is not completely loading so some functions are not working. Is there a way of sending a screenshot to make it clear ?
Interface is completely broken, buttons for drone control show up as wrong icon or no icon at all. App is completely useless for controlling as a result. Since the app is the only way to control a Parrot Jumping drone, and the only way to see the control interface is to connect to a drone, this means you wont know if it works for you until you drop a bunch of money -- as a result I cannot currently recommend either this app or the Parrot product line generally.
So earlier I rated 2 star because the tilt steer didn't work but I found recently you have to be moving to tilt steer. With the drone and app 5 star but the app needs some work so that is why I am giving only 4 star. Some recommendations: -make it so you can steer without moving -it can be finicky at the start trying to get the wifi to show up -maybe add a tutorial that goes through all the buttons and features without having to search it up on YouTube -that's all!
Purchased 3 of these jumping drones in 2017 for my kids, at the time the app worked but would drop connection and the 90 degree turns would make it frustrating to control. So we put them away to await for an update to fix the minor problems. We have tried them again only to find the app is now useless, drops connection alot, icons wont load, control input is delayed and camera freezes and lags so bad. Parrot have been promising a fix for years, no fix is coming. Wont buy from parrot again.
I don't know why this has being getting bad reviews, I have 2 of the mini jumping sumos and they are a blast. The app hasn't failed me, neither have the drones. My experience so far has reached far past my expectations. I keep each drone paired the a specific device and I just pop a battery in, (WiFI being on) open the app and the FPV is already showing on the screen. Push start and its ready to go. SIMPLE.
The latest version of this app doesn't work with my sumo jumping drone. I recently unpacked my drone from storage. I downloaded the latest app and I connect to the drones WiFi hotspot. The stupid app refuses to see the drone and let me pilot it. Before the old app was split into 3 apps, everything worked. I tried updating the firmware via USB, and it still doesn't work. Why did you break the app. There isn't even a log for me to troubleshoot. How dumb.
I can figure out the buttons one by one. however biggest problem I have is I cannot delete the videos that I have transferred to my phone from the drone. there isn't a delete button, also video is not showing in phone gallery, only able to view the video via the app. I'm very confused and fustrated
if the throttle joystick would stay in one place on the screen then this app would be pretty awesome. there is a learning curve to controlling the drone, takes a bit of practice. other than that, pretty good.
The app free riding interface is broken on android 9. All buttons are not showing properly and the whole interface is glitchy. Update: The review will be updated once the app is fixed. It's not a matter of patience, I've buyed one of your products and I cannot use it, this is REALLY annoying.
After much switching between WiFi and updating firmware finally get my drone to work....not. The control screen interface is blank. Not joystick no options. Just three distorted headset icons, a red x and the speed gauge. Thus there is no way to pilot my drone rendering it useless.
Garbage! This app used to work just fine but after the terrible update you've made the drone became useless. If this doesn't get fixed I'm not buying any parrot product!! The app is laggy, not responsive, crashes all the time, glitches all over the place, and offcorse buttons don't show up when driving! What did you even do in the update other than just ruin the app?!?!?!
I,v had the Sumo for a while now. Nevermind the jumping mechanism stopped working after two days, and the connectivity to the drone is overly complicated, now I "upgrade" to this new Freeflight Jumping software junk and my controls are either eternally loading or some other jacked-up icons. Someone needs to learn basic software development and testing protocols. Save your money, -Dissapointed
The app is not compatible with Android 9, all of my devices have Android 9 and none of the controls show up on the scree regardless of my screen settings, This makes the Drone completely unusable. I have contacted support without any recommendations.
Hold your power button (located on top of your jumping drone) down for 5 seconds if you're having Wi-Fi connectivity issues. You have to connect to the Wi-Fi of the parrot drone for it to work. Once you do that it pops up in this app and you can control it.
works well when it connects and let's you drive, but have had issues with connecting and having the drive option appear. I have followed the instructions and connect to the drones Wi-Fi just fine, but on launching the app the drone doesn't appear
The controls to pilot the jumping drone are not showing up on my galaxy s9. I have to guess at where the buttons MAY be and get a random response. Please fix this app so I don't have to return to amazon. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times with same issue.
Works great, other than on my new phone, a Samsung s10, the buttons on freeflight mode are all shown as a headset mute button..... So I can't use all features because none of the buttons are as shown in screenshots.
Broke out my jumping night to try it out on my new phone, a galaxy s10 and while it works, it's not great. I managed to get the drone connected and drive it around, but the controls don't show up correctly. I tried connecting using an older tablet and while the controls show up normally it just constantly disconnects. Not a great showing for parrot and their dedication to the customer after you've already bought their stuff.
