starts playing songs randomly when the app has already been closed for a while. rather than having a notification to control playback, it just plays sound on top of everything else and that is really annoying. but it's free!
Loved this app but the last few times some of the songs I have chosen to download have not downloaded, seems to be a bug in the update consequently my limit of 5 has been used, for example after successfully downloading 3 songs.
Don't bother. Update: Now, I can't even get to my library (JDL). Go good riddance to bad rubbish! Before the app, Freegal was pretty good. Now, all they have are mediocre covers, with very few known names. And the app has become next to worthless; taking several steps to accomplish what should be done in one. You have to click on "search", then click the search bar before the keyboard comes up. Trying to scroll through an album, the displayed list jumps up and down the screen. It seems that every upgrade take a step backwards. I'm afraid it's time to uninstall it.
It is free music for me paid for by my local library which is great and I have used this app for two years at this point. It would be so much better if the many glitches were addressed. Constantly crashing whenever anything is clicked on. Always asking me to resubmit my login. Omitting general search results for artists but that can be found by searching for their specific piece.
This has great potential, but the interface is slow, unintuitive, clunky, and has very little in the form of help. I can not figure out how to add something I have searched for to my library. It looks like I would have to add each song of an album individually. Really not worth using until MANY bugs are worked out.
For the past few weeks downloaded songs don't appear in my Samsung music player. The workaround is to find the songs in My Files and you'll notice an extra space between the file name and the extension. For example, "I Got A Feeling .mp3". Remove that extra space and the songs will show up. Hope this helps.
So frustrated with this app. It's a great concept, it just needs more work. I can't log in via town or province, I have to type Canada and search through all of the libraries to find mine. And I have to log in every day. It constantly logs me out, or asks me to log out. When I can finally get logged it, it gives me errors when I try to download songs, and asks me to log out yet again. When I try to log back in, it tells me the server is down. It would be fine if these were only issues every now and then, but it's the same issues everytime I've used the app. It's a complete waste of time, until they can make it more stable.
When I'm logged in using this app, there's so many ways it's not user-friendly. When I tap on the icon for a song or album in a list it won't let me use that as a link for accessing more info, it only plays the song I've tapped on. Being able to long-press on something to access other info would be helpful. Also while I'm playing a song & the player is listed in the active notifications, it would be so helpful if tapping on the player would take me into the app like the way other apps do. Plz/Ty
Not loving the app. Some of my songs no longer play, the playlist stops after 1 song and I need to manually select the next song. I tried to use app for trouble shooting and even that does not work. Got an error code. I also do not have access to home page with recently added songs or play lists. 2 thumbs down.
I'm having issues with not being able to download more songs. Also when I'm in My Songs and I use shuffle, the same songs are playing in the exact same order. This has been going on for almost 2 weeks. Uninstalling didn't work and neither did restarting my phone. Hopefully there is a fix for both of these!!!
Good app but it doesnt say anywhere what OS system it needs! I had several songs saved on my phone which runs adroid 4.4.2 but a recent update made it so the app needs 5 or newer so I lost all my songs. I have not been able to get freegal to work again on that phone since the hardware cant support 5 or newer so I dont know if the songs would be recovered. I use the same account on a different device and I cant transfer songs. Great app, could be improved a lot!
Low download quality aside (192 mp3), the app is very frustrating. It's not bad if you want individual songs. However, for the full album, many have songs that are "album only" meaning they can't be downloaded. You really have to search for albums that don't have said description.
Terrible. User interface is dated as and personalization (with playlists) is lacking, but isn't even the worst thing about the app. Searching takes ages to load and the app crashes whenever I try to download songs. Getting it to work as it should is frustrating and often impossible. Song library is good, but the app is a nightmare to use.
Great source for music. Every once in a while it needs to be reinstalled to work properly.
Buggy and seems to be getting worse. "Free" means nothing when you add up all the time wasted in multiple fails trying to download a single song
This used to be a really cool and helpful app, but for the past few months it won't work. When I open the app I can't search for music, because the screen just says "no data available". And when I try to play my downloaded music it keeps buffering. It told me to update it this morning and I was hoping they had finally fixed the issue, but it's still broken. Please, please try again! I don't know what happened to your app, but it's completely worthless at this point so you need to do something.
Update: this app rocks and no more problems with login👍 I would give this app a 5, I love having it on with my fave playlists, free weekly downloads and lots of exploration of music related to artists I already love. The app itself gets a 5+. If only my login (library card account number) would stay put so I wouldn't have to fish around for my card and glasses every time my login screen has amnesia. Especially if I'm driving! It's crazy to have to pull over to get it all straightened out.
Ap was working fairly well until I installed the latest update. Since then my last two weeks downloads (6 songs total) failed to appear in my music player on my phone. I've messaged the help desk about this four days ago and still no response from them. Very poor technical support from them if you ask me especially when they claim they'll respond to you within eight business hours. I would rate the ap higher if not for this issue since I have downloaded 350 songs for free and never had a problem
I loved being able to download music legally! It's a great selection of music to choose from. However, after updating, my library is no longer available and since I live in a rural area, finding a different library is impossible. No more freegal music for me I guess.
