It does exactly what I wanted: helps me to memorize note positions on the fretboard. Sharps and flats are a little weird. I have to get used to A sharp as opposed to B flat, for example, but that's nothing, really. The app is, overall, simple and fully functional once you unlock it.

I'm honestly amazed how much this helped in me learning the fretboard. I've been spending a few minutes every so often throughout the day for the past week or so and it has improved my memory of the fretboard immensely. I did pay the £1.69 to get access to the whole guitar fretboard rather than just the first three frets, and I'm not sure how useful the app would be without it, but, it's been well worth the minor expense.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I've just gone and bought the guitar section of the app, the price is less than a coffee so why not. I would, however, like to leave a little critical feedback. When tapping on the correct solution, the note sounds and then changes. This distracts me from the next note by setting my mind on the last one. A solution would be to add an option to play the note in question instead of the previous. Otherwise, this is a great tool. 4.5/5.

Great tool! My only suggestion is some sort of indication when you guess wrong. I end up with more wrong answers than I should because I'm not sure if my answer registered or if I missed the button.

A helpful tool in assisting you learn the fretboard. Its really good for scales in open turnings. I think a nice embellishment would be gussing triad positions and their 1st and 2nd inversions. I think its well worth the few dollars to go add free since the developers have put alot of time and energy into this app and its the only app out there doing what it dose. Devs please add dark mode as the app colors arnt compatible with my phones dark mode and i cant tell what buttons im pressing.

Brilliant app probably the best out there. Easy to use and as other user have stated for the price of a coffee £1.69 I bought the full guitar section have been using on and off for just over a week and now getting competent in the fretboard notes up in the 94% area big thank you to the inventor, never did i think I would one day know all the notes on the guitar fretboard. Brilliant

Works great! Great learning tool that drills "any musician" to help them to retain (or establish memory) common music note literacy . On my Samsung Note cell phone the fret game is too small for my (small) fingers to tap the corresponding fret. I "HAD" to use the stylus. The string note "dots" were placed inside the 1st fret area instead of behind the nut (where the tuners typically are). Stumped me awhile. Instructions were too small to read (...not the best use of white space?). Beta users?

I have changed my 5 star review to a 3 star, because the app gets laborious after you get to know some notes. The ones you know very well come up more frequently and that's why you get to know them, others come up less frequently and so you don't learn the for a long time. The app should recognize the notes you get to know and ask them less frequently, focusing more on the ones you don't know. I also agree with Brandyn's recommendation.

This is my second or third time trying to memorize the fret board and this has been my most successful. It makes it a game and has repetition and the note's sound.

Has its ups and downs. The staff-to-fretboard exercise is a big plus that's missing in many similar apps. However, there are some things that are just awkward and need to be improved. 1) The 7 fret limitation is just too restrictive. There has to be a better solution. 2) The interval exercise doesn't quite make sense. For example, going from C3 to D2 is a minor 7th down, but the app thinks it's a major 2nd. I suggest always making the lower note the root. 3) Weirdest ad integration I know.

Nice app, turns learning the fret board into a game. Some UI bugs still, like not zooming as expected (and hence me having problems seeing the dots in order to identify the notes. The most important issue I've found is that when training chords, it sometimes presents two valid answers to the same quiz, but if considers only one of those valid. e.g. the triad: 8 9 9 x x x This is an augmented chord: Caug, G#aug and Eaug are all valid answers. The options given by the program include both Eaug and Caug, but only one of them is valid! Note that I've disabled the setting to reveal the root note (which, by the way, doesn't seem to have an effect on colours used for the notes). Last, but not least: the current values of the settings and their meanings are not very easy to see.

A simple app with a nice clean layout, which is exactly what I wanted. It would be nice to have a kind of game mode to see how many I get in a certain time though. It would also be nice if I could make the buttons a bit bigger, as I tend to have inputs blocked on the edge my screen to avoid accidental inputs. Overall though, I would highly recommend it!

The trainer to help you learn the notes on the page to the fretboard is not accurate!! The bottom line is E but you get a wrong answer if you hit the E note on the fretboard, the correct answer is F according to it. That's not the only wrong note! It is hard to navigate also. Uninstall, moving on. Oh, the fretboard is small, very hard to hit the notes.

4.9 stars! I love the modes, I love the progress felt after saving up your 100 coins and I love the look of the app. I'd give this app 5 stars except for the shop containing all instruments at the same time. I realised after saving up my 100 coins twice that I was paying for upgrades on the wrong instrument. This could be solved by only displaying upgrades for the instrument you are studying.

The staff and fretboard game has been great for improving my site reading. The only problem I have is the touch area on the fret board. It's too small and often results in mistaps. This is particularly problematic in the staff and fretboard game where every fret in the selected range is tapable.

Best fret-learner app that I have used. Has a good looking interface, and high quality guitar samples. Worth buying

Really good for helping learn fretboard / notes. Can dip in and out for short learning chunks.

Love this app. Have it for guitar and its really helped me learn all the notes. Great for practising when you can't get to your instrument too

Sha. K. Mar 18, 2022

it's great I'm just learning _first three frets but it's fun and really helps me learn notes on the fretboard. I haven't seen the chord game but I will just great handy trainer right now

Learning the fretboard seems like an easy task and it is. You can sit and write down on your fretboard all day long and write the notes down, but fretboard trainer gives the possibility to memorize it in a slow and grinding way settling it in your brain so it becomes automatic. A must have i fyou really want to know you6 fretboard. In one word, FretTrainer is awesome and deserves a 5 star rating 👍👍.... love it!

Eri. T. Jun 28, 2019

pretty great but one obvious improvement would be having the correct answers not be limited to the natural notes (e.g., have F#m be a possible correct answer). ##### Thanks for your reply. Yes, I see that in Settings > Accidentals you can select "Naturals", "Sharps", "Flats" as a radio button. If this could be a checkbox selection instead of radio, this app would be perfect.

Helpful easy but most of all fun! Especially like the ability to learn alternative tunings.

Chr. Dec 9, 2020

Let me preface my suggestions by saying I've started using this alone to practice fretboard memorization since I bought the guitar segment in the app and it offers a lot of great features and has a very clean UI. My critique: please add the option of a grand staff shown in the games that use notation and also the option to limit interval distances to designated fret spans in the interval game, separate from fretboard length selection, to make the interval distances practical to someone's hand.

Excellent! Love the notes on staff and neck feature, perfect for classical guitar!

Gar. F. Jun 22, 2020

Really helpful app. Love it. Highly recommended. Feature request: i would like to study triad inversions better. Using the 'name chord' game is great but i cant limit it to 3 strings, i.e all triad shapes using strings 1,2 &3... if i limit to strings 1 and 2 it shows triads on strings 1-4... if i limit to string 1, i only get 3rd inversion triads... i want a way to do 1st, 2nd and 3rd inversions that use the same 3 strings.

Good for learning the tones, bought the full 6string guitar. The stats however are very incomplete and playing is not much fun because you dont have anything to comete with, no goals (nothing for example like play 50 tones within a minute or play 50 tones and the system will record your time). So all in all: quite useful but a bit boring.

Pat. Oct 31, 2020

Good app, very useful. Works for left handed. You can limit the amount of frets to train. You can't train string by string but I don't think you should anyway. Timer helps. UI is great, clean. Price for the entire guitar fretboard is $1.99. A very affordable quality tool.

We have just bought the app an love it! Learning notes is fast end enjoyable. We would like to install it on other devices, is it possible to sync our purchase so that the payed version is on the other device as well? Also, it would be great if history with stats was added. It would be 5 stars if it synced Thank you
