With FRITZ!App Media, connected wirelessly over the FRITZ!Box, you can play back the contents of your digital music, photo and video collections directly on your Android device. The media contents are provided by a UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) media server like the FRITZ!Box, XBMC, Plex or the Windows 7 operating system.
If a network television or home theatre system is integrated in the home network, use the Android device to select the desired device for playback. So it is convenient to listen to music or watch videos, pictures stored on one of the hard drives using your television or home theatre system. Devices with network support are designated as part of the "Digital Living Network Alliance" (DLNA), a standard that allows for the exchange of data between computers, consumer electronics, mobile communications and other electronic equipment in the network. Further devices can be WiFi-Speakers or PC system with appropriated software.

Wanting to access media in a 2tb hard drive connected to FritzBox full of videos. This app shows me my hard dRive bit does not show any of the contents in my drive. It shows some folders that do not match the folders on my drive and they are all empty. I can access this drive fine on my computer but it had died so I need top access on my android device to be able to watch my videos.
At least one stable app with Marantz 1607
Does not work with my DLNA LG Smart TV.

Turning off data collection works with one session, which is done on purpose and with a warning.
best app for DLNA communication
Works very well. Can't think of anything it could do better.
This review is subject to change as I use the app more, but on first impression it works great. It immediately recognized all devices (Fritzbox media server, Chromecast, etc) and playback is smooth as butter. The app makes efficient use of resources (battery, network) from what I can tell. Nice work, AVM.
It won't run on a hisense 50k390pad google certified smart TV running Android 4.2.2. That's an ODD thing that an app made for viewing on a smart TV and then one that has Android built in which should be running this kind of software, can't!!! Its hard for me to understand where the limitation lies but if its possible to make it run on the above model, that would be so good. Thanks :)
So it's a DLNA client that's not working with Sonos. Not a fan of that blue and white theme. Worked when playing that sample from my Fritz!Box.
how nice would it be, if one could configure source/output devices manually. The local device on source list is not listed with it the whole fun is blowen away!
The app suddenly stopped working while streaming a film from nas and I can't get it working any more. I just get 'no entries' on the 'browse' tab where I used to see all my films. It's a real shame because I liked the app - would have probably given 3 or 4 stars. It was a bit simple but it worked. I can't find any online support.

Was only 3 stars because was no control over playback size on tablet or smart phone. on a 1920x1080 screen even 720p video was way too small. But all fixed now, 5 stars! Thank you!

Improved a lot, but it isn't streaming the sound of MKVs with DTS audio.
Copy and paste files from server would be great...
I just wanted to browse my NAT and stream media to my phone. It just WOULD NOT! Crashed any time it got close to a file. Unimpressed.
Please add search function.

The only video file is managed to play was .mp4 . No vob , no mpg , no mkv , no avi. Audio mp3 only , since flac is not generaly supported by DLNA standard :( :( :( Trying to play any video in my Samsung SmartTV , didn't play any file , and the TV seemed to be opening a 'music' player ???
Worked instantly and is streaming audio from the HD
Actually having tried lots of different applications, this is the only one that instantly found my server media directory and allowed me to start playing music immediately with absolutely no configuration. For some reason though, only selected directories were shown. No idea why!
1 didn't play any videos, except those recorded by a phone. The SAME videos play fine from sdcard or via Allsharr dlna. 2 can't display unicode names
Could not find my own files. Just the 3 basic files for music, video and photo. Uninstalled.
Not much tested yet, but connected in 1 sec to stream from FB, which failed with all other players tried.

Have an external hard drive connected to the nas part of the fritz! Modem and this program will never stay current to any changes added or removed from the hard drive... Even after disconnecting the hard drive from the server and giving it an deep clean directly from the computer and reconnecting it to the fritz! Box. The app keeps saying the hard drive has files that were deleted months ago.
