Full Maui GyPSy Driving Tour

Works but plan on having a second phone in your car for directions. The interface could be greatly improved. As is, cannot be used as a navigation system (the map doesn't rotate, not enough detail, no turn by turn directions, etc) and the app's audio stops working if you open Google Maps in overlay or split screen mode. Worse, every time this happens, you need to reboot the phone for it to work again (on a Pixel 2 connected over Bluetooth to a Nissan)

We used this app for all of Maui and absolutely loved it! It was beyond helpful for our road trips around the island, including the Road to Hana. The one thing I would suggest is to add in music in between the audio stops. Because you have to keep the app running the whole time, you can't toggle between the app and music like Spotify or Pandora. It was ok without it, but it would have made it that much better to include some local Hawaiian music or something like that. Everything else was amazing, highly recommend!!

What a phenomenal app. Install it and start driving. The narrator gives you info on the landmarks all over the island, and on the main tours - Road to Hana/Haleákala, etc - he actually gives input on the places really worth seeing as well as ones you can safely skip if you're pressed for time. And all you have to do is sit there. As you pass a spot, the voice automatically starts talking! And his turn by turn instructions are accurate within a few feet. It made our trip! Worth the $.

This app worked great! During our four day visit to Maui, we were able to use all of the audio tours. I liked the commentary for driving up Haneakala the best since it's mostly an uninterrupted drive up and down. It ran smoothly on my Pixel 3, even in areas without cell phone coverage. In fact, during the road to Hana, I was in airplane mode most of the time to conserve battery life. We often used Google Maps on my wife's phone for directions while this was running (easier than switching apps).

An excellent app, full of interesting and entertaining commentary related to where you are driving on the island, with very clear directions on how to get to the main places of interest - if only most satnavs were this clear! It seemed odd getting home and not having the commentary as we were driving back from the airport! Highly recommended - it certainly added to our enjoyment of the island, and is a bargain compared to what you'd have to pay for an organised tour.

The app provides a nice audio guide, but it kept kicking itself out of "driving mode" every few minutes: this meant that audio prompts would often get interrupted (with no way to resume or restart them, so we just missed content). The passenger had to reconfigure the app every time this happened which required about 4 clicks: this would have been dangerous for a solo driver to do. When it worked it was good, it was just disappointingly unstable.

Not worth the price (maybe 4.99 @ most). Turn by turn worked great when getting to a spot, but the guide point commentary was very sporadic. Main points worked, but other points didn't, it left the guide tour very lacking of info. Definitely not a device issue like others have had. No option to manually play the guide points or even replay them. Good concept, needs major work. Mayne writer should take the tours via the app to help troubleshoot. Request refund.

Do not pay for a tour for Road to Hana, rent a car and do it yourself with this app. The app worked flawlessly even when most of the Road to Hana is out of cell service. The commentary was excellent and well done. My only complaint is I wish it would have made a few more suggestive stops along the way, informed us the 7 pools was closed to swimming and made some suggestive stops along the way home if we had time. Overall it was a worthy investment.

We used and love both the Maui and the Oahu guides and, although there was a little repetition for each island (i would hope so, in case you only went to one island), it was really enjoyable. We learned about the history of Hawaii, the geology, the language, and the sights that we saw all in real time. I loved that it was available even when there was no cell service. Never had any reception trouble no matter where we were at. Only suggestion is to be able to move the map manually.

Fantastic!!! Don't leave home without it. Wife and I were there for a week celebrating 50 Anniversary and once I started this ap[, I made sure it was the first thing I turned on in the car. So much information that you may miss and even on the stretches of highway that have nothing special, the app tells you of history in the area. No need to tell it where you are going as it lets you know the options as you are driving. Love the whole experience.

Very helpful and entertaining app! The guide gives details and suggestions on where to go, what to avoid, where to park, best beaches, what to eat, etc. It also gives entertaining and educational stories along the route Like having a local friend along for the ride with you. Well worth the price and no Wi-Fi needed!

An excellent guide. We took all three tours and enjoyed them all. The guide detects where you are and gives you choices and alternatives as the what you want to do. Very well done with an excellent narrator. Very clear speaking voice and a good sense of humor.

This app was so awesome. We did the whole island and really liked the tips, history and pace. We played our own music and the guide would automatically pause and talk at key interest points and resume the music. No internet needed. We are now trying Oahu and hope it's as good as Maui! For $10 it made our 10 day vacation amazing as it points out things we wouldn't have noticed. Also great tech support... I had to reboot once to get it to work in my car. Sent an email and had a reply within a day.

The app did NOT work at all! It kept restarting and wouldn't play through any of the talking points. We tried everything suggested and was an absolute pain! Didn't have service on the road to Hana (the whole reason we got the app) so we couldn't call the toll free line either. Very disappointing.

Super great app with lots of interesting info about HI and little gems that I would never know about and drive right past. One thing that would give it a full 5 stars would be to change the color of road I have driven. Trying to cover all of the tour, and it is a little tough to know where we have been.

It's like having a personal tour guide of the island. Lots of wonderful points of interest and a lot of useful information for travellers and I loved learning more about the culture and history of the Hawaiian islands along the way! Definitely recommend this guide to anyone travelling to Maui. The only problem I found was that I could not properly zoom into the map, so I ran the GyPSy app in the background for commentary, Google maps for navigation.

Absolutely worth the money. We pretty much drove the entire tour, and the directions and stories greatly enhanced the experience. If you are planning on driving amywhere in addition to the Road to Hana, I recommend getting this app.

A must have for anyone's trip to Maui. Whether on a tight budget or indulging in shop and tourist attractions, this app allows you to navigate with ease. Also all of the suggested activities were great. I feel like I owe alot of the fun I had here to listening to the directions from this app.

Just did the tour around the northwest side. Excellent! Everyone in the car loved it. So much more meaningful when someone is telling you about the things you're seeing. Only thing missing was Dragon's Teeth near DT Fleming Park. Love the app!

Helps you get a lot more out of your trip. Interesting info about the history and culture, recommendations of places that are worth stopping (or skipping), and spot on directions for turns and pull-offs even where cell signal is scarce.

We used this app in December 2019. It was amazing. We covered every bit of Maui and this app was worth the $10. The guide has a great voice, is very useful with turns, parking, finding good spots to visit as well as history and stories about Hawaii. We thoroughly used and enjoyed the app for 5 days. It had no glitches with Android auto and played seamlessly. Don't go to Maui without this app.

Worth every dollar! Gives you directions in advance so you don't miss turns. The app was especially useful on the Road to Hana because this roadtrip has numerous stops that can overwhelm you without prior planning. This app makes this super easy, and we were able to make it all the way to 'O'he'o Gulch and back on the same day. The app also keeps you engaged during the road trips by providing commentary and stories on history of the island of Maui and the Hawaiian culture.

Extremely helpful! We purchased this ap to take the Road to Hana and it was wonderful! The guide gives you so much information as well as plenty of time to make decisions for what you want to see and which direction to go for each. The narrator is fun and full of information. We have used it all over Maui and am so happy we purchased it. Thank you!!

Just used this app for touring Maui and it waa AWESOME! We arrived on a cruise ship and don't really enjoy the larger bus tours. i read about this app on a cruise board and wow, am I glad I did. All the information and suggestions for stops, places to stop to eat, shop, etc. were on point. I cannot recommend this app enough! Looking forward to our visit to Kauai and using it there too. This app made our self driving tour 10x better. It is my first time on Maui and i feel that without the app i would have missed out on a lot of sightseeing spots. The voice data is downloaded to the phone so no data connection is required.
