I like being able to turn up the volume on my Samsung Galaxy II S and get nearly 2V P-P on my scope, closely resembling sine, triangle, and square waves. (I assume that their quality may vary greatly depending on your hardware.) The user interface could be improved by turning with my phone (allowing the connector on top or left) and by leaving the output on as I change wave shapes. Numeric entry is clumsy. Overall, it's good. As a free app, the price is right. I recommend trying it.
Checked it on the Rigol 1052e also with FFT. The sine waves are ~ flat ~ 20Hz-17kHz ; frequency is stable then drops quickly. Some waveforms generate small spurs 3-4x the fundamental about - 30dB. The triangle wave distorts above 1kHz and the square has a lot of ringing. Other functions work as expected within the above limitations and the constraints of the menu items [ e.g. sweep rate or modulation %]. It can be recommended as a pocket signal generator for gross testing whenever you need an audio signal such as troubleshooting speakers, headphones or testing gross frequency response. The menu system is workable but crude, no bugs immediately noticeable. The triangle & square waveforms are of limited usefulness due to distortion. Generated using a Droid 2 on a 100 ohm resistive load to emulate headphones.
Sine wave is nice and clean, can see a little bit or capacitance on the triangle wave and this capacitance is rather obvious on the square wave also. Problem more than likely is my phone hardware (Capacitor resistor network on audio output), but hey, for a free app you can't complain!
DONE WITH MY TEK 200MHz OSCILLOSCOPE, WITH A 100 OHM LOAD ON PHONE OUTS... I AM USING A NEXUS7 32G TABLET. 1. GREAT SIGNALS, SINE VERY CLEAN ALL THE WAY, TRANGLE AND SQUARE DEPEND ON SAMPLING RATE. FINE UP TO 6KHZ, THEN THEY ROUND OFF. LOGICAL. 2. LIKE THE LOG SWEEP OPTION AND OTHERS, LOVE TO DO LONG SWEEPS TO CHECK STANDING ROOM WAVES. 3. Wish the keyboard did not pop up all the time... 4. Wish it did not revert to 440 Hz every time BUT KEPT MY LAST SETTING. Otherwise, CLEAN, VERY LITTLE JITTER, GOOD DESIGN, THE BEST FREE OUT THERE ! KEEP IT UP GUYS, blessings from Caracas.
HTC one. Sine wave does not work. Also needs proper popups for value entry instead of text box
Beats competition with easy UI, no gimmicks. Great for "dog whistle" pranks. Works fine on my HTC EVO.
Couldn't get any sound via speaker HTC Wildfire 2.2, my problem now fixed
Doesn't work on my LG lucid 2 every time I press a button I says that it stopped working Uninstalling
Hard to find a decent Sig Gen for home theatre work - this one's ok but eventually froze my Desire needing batt removal
Very useful. Just used it to fine tune a coil while wrapping. Its handy to enter a frequency directly. the slider bar for adjustment is great.
This has good functionality, but is very unpolished. Poor interface for modulation. Should remember the settings from one run to the next.
When I ran this program my Desire HD froze. Had to remove the battery to restart. Uninstalled.
Nice sine tone. Need to be able to set frequency resolution to at least two decimal points. Nice if could create/save presets. 5 stars if you do that.
Not working with galaxy S4. Otherwise good app.
Observed on a scope - square wave definitely does not even resemble a square wave. Sinewave not evenly biased and negative peaks dampened on one channel.? But deserves an extra star cause its free.
The best of the bunch, but irritating keyboard covers interface..the only one I tried which produces a 1V output @ 1kHz but couldn't, get it to 0dB
Good app, but with my phone it produced square waves on triangle mode, and triangle waves on square mode. I checked out with an osciloscope.
White and pink noise generators just repeat the same 1 sec of signal over and over. User interface could be made more user-friendly.
Froze my HTC desire. Needs more work.
Best of these Sig gen apps (when u get used to the controls).. Desire HD
Very good functionality. Awesome icon. Totally lame interface. Useless.
I may be slow, but what is used for the output.
Volume at "start" is always 100! Should start at set point. Useless.
This is probably the worst app the android market has to offer
You might need a decent speaker setup to prove it though.
Pretty good! I would like to see parameters assignable to phone axis for my 5th star.
Easy to view and edit , but I can't use AM PM PM swipe , thay do nothing ..
Would be nice to have a save load function
It would be very nice if the resulting waveform was displayed Ola
In general works quite well. Handy little utility. Only main issue is that if I manually enter a numer for the amplitude or adjust the amplitude slider while stopped, it will play at full amplitude when I press start even though the number is displayed in the box. If I adjust it after pressing start it works correctly. It would be nice to be able to start at the selected amplitude.
