Has potential. App is very finicky about target & camera placement. After 10 shots, target is displayed, but disappears too fast (about 10 sec). Too bad you can't save target images to look at later. It would be nice to be able to recall targets and scores to look for improvement over time. I tried to grab screenshots, but it's not easy. 'Help' function not much help for anything. Still, I'm not giving up on it. It could be a great little app.
UPDATE: I am changing this from 4 stars to 5. I have had a chance to put this app through its paces. It took a little time to get the lighting just right; but after I got that adjusted, the app went to town. It marks shots perfectly using a variety of targets, including a Dot Torture Test. Because the Dot Torture Test involves rounds of more than 10 shots, I ended up buying that part of the app that allows for unlimited shots. I use a third party laser 'bullet', which works just fine. This is a great app to train with in-between live range visits. FIRST REVIEW: Tried this app last night on a non-standard target with great results. Pretty easy to use. The setup could use some slight improvements, though. Although the 'buttons' to zoom in on a target are a great idea, I also think using a 'slider' to quickly get a zoom and then 'buttons' to fine tune the sweet spot would be a great thing. I will use this app a bit more to determine if I would ever need the paid version. But for now, this app will save me a lot of money on ammo and gas since I will not have to drive to the range quite as often. Thumbs up on this app.
Overall, I like the tool and using it more with the rising cost and low availability of ammo in 2020. Purchased the Grouping tool and enjoy that, giving me a chance to measure something tangible and see improvement. Phantom shots are rare, but they do happen from time to time. Things I'd like to see: 1) either the ability to zoom in more or a way to compensate for the angle of video to get the phone out of the field of view. More zoom could mean less walking back and forth from phone between sessions. 2) a way to save a session - measure time from start beep for each shot, save it's relative position on the background, save off the background (could be low res). Also allow for meta data entry like date, time, distance, gun model, shooter name, and comments or title. This is all you would need to save a session so you can playback later. This means a playback feature as well and maybe even a way to convert that data to a video so you can playback on any device with or without the app (like send to a friend). If playback requires the app, that would be OK and might drive more downloads of the app. 3) speaking of friends - if you can save a session then it would be nice to share that round right from the app. Integrate maybe with text messaging app. 4) and if you can save sessions, you probably need a way to manage them, like a screen that lists all the sessions by date/comment and lets you delete ones you no longer want.
Decent, but falls short in a few different ways. 1. It's a pay to upgrade app, which isn't a problem in and of itself, but this is not made clear when purchasing the g-sight laser cartridge. IMO they should be more transparent about this, or better yet, roll the price of the full featured app into the price of the laser cartridge 2. The grouping feature does not work on Pixel 3 or Pixel 3a. I am told that this is due to the phone's CPU. Again, some transparency from the G-Sight cartridge vendor about this would have been appreciated. 3. Zoom settings are not preserved. It should default to the last used zoom level 4. Would be nice if app kept history so progress over time can be tracked
It works well, very minimal false shots, or lost shots. If you have this problem it's more than likely something shiny or need to adjust your lighting. I love this app. Thus far, it is stable, always reliable, and registers probably 99% of the shots. The one thing that stops IT from getting 5 stars is the cost of unlocking simple features, it's probably twice what it should be and the inability to control the size of the bullet impact area on the target. I wish it was more bullet size.
The app works well on my Note10+, the instructions are easy to follow and do help. I have used the laser and app up to about 25ft away with no major issues. The only issue I have had is if in a low light room I need to turn on a desk lamp and have it pointed towards the target, not a big deal but it did take a few minutes to figure out was was going on. I would like to see a fractional session time limit in the shot timer settings so that I can work on draw speed. I can only move in one second increments, moving from 2s to 1s is more difficult than moving from 2s to 1.7s and a fractional time in tenths would really help. Get the fractional time in there and I'll gladly move the app to 5 stars because it is very good and I do use it often and enjoy using it. Also, a screen shot button wouldn't be a bad idea because the phone being on a tripod doesn't always make screen shot easy. I was't thrilled with the price of unlocking the extra training categories but I understand and I used my Google Rewards credits to buy the extras so no big deal.
The app seems to run okay. Pretty basic, I spent the extra on in-app purchases. I'm getting a lot of phantom hits, maybe not the apps fault, but I don't have a lighting problem when using other laser training tools. Three stars for the lack of a restart target. Leaving the firing line to walk back and forth to reset the training sessions is not ideal. Bump to 5 stars easy with this added feature. Thanks!
I really wanted to like this app. I gave it two stars because it reflects the consistency with which it works. It could be working fine one minute, and the next it will start "self-shooting" like it is possessed. Or all of a sudden it will not detect center-mass shots. I purchased two of the extra features and although they are nice features, they just don't work consistently. I spent $85 dollars on the cartridge and to be honest I would just as well spend $20 on any laser cartridge on Amazon and use it with the app. I actually tried contacting support but they were not responsive which makes it even worse.
This is a great app for at home training. Have really enjoyed using it. It would be nice if the shot timer would report back the time it took from start 'beep' until the shot hits the target. Also, not sure if it is my phone or if it is the app, but I can't seem to figure out how to lengthen the time you have to shoot using shot timer. I can lengthen the time between shots, but it seems the time between the start 'beep' and shot timeout can be really short sometimes. Like 1 second or less. Still messing with this part of the app, so maybe it's me. Still highly recommend, lots of fun....
It's good overall but difficult to see how accurate my shots are because the circle is so large from each hit. Also, being that my gun is a striker fire, I have to rack the slide each time. That doesn't help if I want to see how fast I can shoot at different points on the targets. Would be nice if it kept a history of the shots and be able to name them (right handed, left handed, and so on) to check the progression over time. But, gets the job done I guess if you don't mind one shot at a time.
The laser is nice and a good training tool, but the app is a mess for me. As soon as I start trying to calibrate it, it picks up reflected light and registers it as hits all before one second. have tried in different locations in the house but each time with the same result. will do more testing and update if it changes, but as of now the app is not usable for what it is intended
App is quick and super easy to use on my Galaxy phone with the 9 mm G-sight Laser cartridge. I've had some problem with a range paper target setup at first. But the responsive folks at G-Sight offered quick help and fixed it right away. Surely it is not perfect, but for the $5.00 I paid for the Grouping feature alone, I am getting so much more than I expected. Highly recommended for anyone who is into Laser Dry Fire training or just started looking. If you can, get all the paid features and try them out. Don't worry - if you don't like any of them, just ask and get a full refund from Google App Store. Or, at least try the cool Grouping feature and find out how easy it is now to get your group size without any tape measurement!
The G-Sight support team is easy to work with, quick to respond, and went out of their way to get my issue resolved. I really love the ability to practice at home and save on ammo cost. This application does a great job of seeing the laser hits in lighting conditions that other similar apps will not handle. (I've tried a number of them) All in All the G_Sight system works very well.
The laser is not zero door very accurate. The point of impact cannot be adjusted for windage or elevation. When I shoot it is consistently 3 inches low 1 inch to the right. There is no way to adjust this so I'm not sure how effective this will be. I tried the software and it seems sufficient but without any zeroed laser I don't see the point of this. If they could add a calibration feature that the shooter makes adjustments to this would be very nice product
Edit, always read the directions thoroughly, turns out my target and the background were both shiny and reflecting light back to my phone causing false reads, definitely works better with a non reflective background. I was surprised that after buying the G-sight gen 2 training cartridge, I wound up with the same limited app as anyone else, would have figured since I actually paid for their cartridge, the full app would have been included.
Great app, fun to use as a dry fire trainer. My only complaint is the sensitivity of the app. If there is any stray beam of light in the area of your target, the app will pick it up as a shot. I have had it where I haven't even started firing and it picks up all 10 shots because of light concentrated in the area of the target.
Set up was easy with a tripod and phone holder we already had. Everything seemed to work fine except that after hitting 'train again' the app would close and would have to be reopened again, which brought me back to the training page but had to rezoom on the target. Also noticed that it drained the battery pretty fast. Using a Moto z4 with Android 10. Update: only tried it once to see if it had the same problem but seemed to work fine on my old Moto Z Force Droid using Android 8
I did a lot of research before buying this. I understood going in that there could be some odd situations where the lighting and laser wouldn't communicate so with that in mind I have only had a handful of no detects compared to the several hundred I have shot so far. I have only had the unit for a few days but so far I am already seeing my weaknesses and bad habits. I see this as a training device and the feedback I see helps me become a better shooter even if there is a misfire occasionally. I am about to grab the timer part of this app since I want to begin competition shooting in the spring. I likely will pass of the unlimited part of the app since the 10 shot is right up my alley, I typically shoot 10 shot groups at the range and this works for me. I am giving the combo a 4 star for now but will likely up the stars once I get many more shots into it. Overall the laser is well made, solid and if you follow their guidelines and do as instructed this can last quite some time. I have 3 pistols that the laser works great in and one PCC that I want to test. Nice job fellas
This app functions fine on my Samsung S8. I paid almost $10 for the Unlimited and Shot timer. I did not find any description of what either of those added to the free version. The unlimited allows you to dry fire as many times as you want during any one session. Edit: The shot timer does show how quick you shot after the beep. I should read the manual before reviewing. Updated my rating from 3 stars to 4 and appreciate the developer response.
This app worked great for a few days and now its having a ton of problems. The 10 shot version isnt even loading at all so I cant use it. I have also had shots not register on the app that I have shot, and I have had the app register random shots I never even took. This app is poorly made and is almost worthless to me now. I've read the camera suggestions they have and I contacted customer service but nothing they suggested have done anything. The laser itself works great but the app doesnt.
Update: I initially rated only 3 stars because in about 20% of my sessions it would sometimes registering random false hits. Customer service was great at helping me trouble, so I am revising to 5 stars. This app has been my salvation during the pandemic, since I refuse to go to the range. This is great training for developing aim and quick sight picture!
Galaxy S 8 plus. The shot only registers about 10% of the time. Ive tried many different scenarios. bright/low light, paper targets, zoomed in or out. the only way i get about 50% of shots registered is by putting the camera right in front of the target (2 feet away).
Seems pretty good. Nothing to brag about. It dose work with other phone app target cellphone camera recognition type things. It dose seem to get set off sometimes with a hard bump. Not sure why but bump it back the other direction and it's back on. Could be something loose in mine. But usually it works fine.
Works, with limitations. You save on ammo big time, so the fact it is erratic and misses shots and in anything but really dim light conditions it won't see hits, both of those are workable, but for the boasting and YouTube reviews I expected a more precision instrument without the glitches.
This has in app purchases that prevent you from using the device to its fullest unless you pay another $5-$10 after paying about $60 for the device itself. The free portion of the app works fine but is lacking. I'll just use the laser without the app. To improve the device itself I suggest including a removal tool for the laser once its in the barrel. I feel like I might damage the laser when I jam a metal rod down the barrel to get it out after a training session. Major disapointment overall.
The Future Is Here - Best Laser Training App i have used so far. It was OK for me in the past but the Grouping function they just released (in 5.0.8) blew my mind. This is what a modern Dry Fire training system/App should do: easy to use and delivers what was not possible before. There is just one thing to mention: make sure your are using the G-Sight Laser cartridge. The cheap brand cartridges I bought somehow don't work as well with this App. If you are new to the App, spend the $5.00 to get the Grouping function and enjoy the modern Dry Fire training! App does work on my Tab A without any problem, but the graphics works so much better on my S10. Sadly, if your phone is too old, it may not qualify for the Grouping function - App will not allow you to buy it if it doesn't.
Decent enough app, but there needs a way to compensate for when the laser is hitting in a different spot than what the gun is sighted in for (ie, where bullets hit). The "iTarget" app has this feature, and it is very useful for those of us who need it.
I have only had this for two days but I love it! I bought the pro Version to get more shots between resets. I use it at two distances, one at 10' and one at about 20' and it works flawlessly. I too would like if you could save history but my workaround for that is do a screenshot before resetting and then rename the file with details. I use the CheapShot O-Ring Laser cartridges on my Glock 30 45 and on my 9mm Sig P365SAS. The ammo saving in two days has paid for my app and lasers. I have looked at trigger resets for rapid fire but I have not found anything affordable.
Super Awesome and very Professional Developers and Customer Service! Now about this app... it's a great training aid! It gets you ready for the range saving you range cost and ammo. If you have a laser sight on your weapon/gun it's very easy to set it up with the G-Sight Laser since the G Sight is a bore laser...you just zero your laser to it (instructions are on their site ). I only shot three rounds after adjustment and they were all within a nickel. Hey do enjoy!
The laser is very accurate and the app works good, however there is no "save" option. In addition it is missing analytical features to allow you to analyze your sessions and see if you are improving or not. Without these types of features it is like going to the range, pointing the gun down range and emptying the mag without any idea of what you hit. I hope they are working on this soon as it would be a huge improvement.
