True it's not able to connect to your WIFI router, but it does have good functionality. Connected direct through wifi the first time for firmware update, Bluetooth from then on. Phone wants to connect to WiFi router so it drops connection to WiFi fan unless you connect through Bluetooth. The responsiveness to the app is immediate, and the temperature and humidity readings seem on point. Nice to have control over settings while laying in my bed as opposed to climbing into the attic to adjust.

this is not a wifi vent. it just uses wifi technology to connect to your phone to turn the fan on or off, it cannot connect to your wifi network like other devices advertised as wifi capable. no advance features in the app whatsoever and no remote control. if you get any other fan and connect it to any smart home thermostat, you will be able to control it from anywhere with real programming features.

This unit works fine but is a little confusing. Its nice for the nerdy to see how hot it actually gets in the attic and how much humidity is associated with that temp too. It took a while to figure out how to connect and can understand that but overall the unit works as described and the extra information is interesting to me but definitely not necessary. Some nights I do find it helpful that I can connect to the fan and let it run for an hour or so more even though it has hit the recommended temperature setting but other than that its just a fan in the attic.

I don't recommend buying this. It is not a smart home product. The way it was designed only allows you to access the device from your home and only with your phone. Also if you are accessing the fan through wi-fi, you can not be on the internet at the same time. I suggest waiting til version 3 or 4 comes out before giving it a try.

App does needs work. Updating firmware does make it work better. This is definately better than not knowing if your fan is running, or going into attic to adjust settings. Having the ability to see temp and humidity is good too. Gaf just needs to bring app up to speed with technology.

The fan does not connect to your home wi-fi but directly to your phone using a wi-fi connection which means, one, it disconnects your phone from your home wi-fi, two, you cannot connect to the fan when you are away from your home. Given the technology we have now, it's a misleadingclaim that it connects to wi-fi. In other words, overpaid for a feature I though I was getting.

This is not wifi vent and misuse terminology, this fan should not call wifi vent. It's really hard to get this fan working due to wrong description, you need to disconnect your phone from your regular wifi and connect to vent wifi which is totally wrong. i wouldn't have bought this fan of you would have known this. The worst part it's wifi technology is not even good, it's keep on dosconnecting and really hard to get fan working to maintain temperature in attic, gaf needs to help me!

WiFi and bluetooth = wireless languages: the fan uses 1 or the other to communicate with your phone in a local manner only. On multiple occasions connecting more than 1 phone to the fans will cause you problems. The default password is GAF12345 (. is for grammar not password). Most attic fans use poorly calibrated dials, that are set with screwdrivers. This allows setting digitally, then turn on auto. GAF is being too conservative on integration & choices...not home automation capable.

Totally useless. I could climb I to the attic and turn the fan on faster than this app connects. And even when it does it's hit and mis. Good thing they where on clearance, I will be tossing the control box in the trash.

This app needs the ability to set a schedule. I would prefer to be able to cool the attic down to the outside temp during the evening so it stays cool in the house longer and i can only set it to 90 when my lows at the moment are 50!

GAF please make it so fan can connect to home wifi to control, and set up remote functionality. It is false advertising in this modern era to sell fan that does not have robust remote access. My water heaters that capability. I am a property manager and need remote access, we will figure it out by other smart home products if you are not going to make this product as advertised. Also it seems odd that fan is less powerful (CFM) than a non wifi fan. This is below expectations.

Garbage. I can't even connect my device. It just keeps spoiling like its loading, waiting for 10 minutes, and NOTHING has happened. Even restarted my modem, my phone, the app... nothing. Utter garbage and a waste of time.

Just bought the ERV5SMT fan and would not have if I read these real-world reviews. RUN, DO NOT WALK, AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!!!! The advertising of the app’s/fan’s connectivity is, at best, misleading and at worst, negligent! The app is in no way intuitive and one must re-connect every time one wants to gain access to the controls. Wi-Fi connectivity is only through its own network and it will not access the owner’s home network. The claims prompting us to purchase this device indicate otherwise. I should have read the reviews more closely to find out, in the real world, how this fan/app operates. When will your company wake up and revamp this app? You do realize that it’s 2020 and it behaves like it is 1999.

Like everyone's sayin... it's not true wifi. So don't expect it to be a smart home product. The biggest upside is being able to set the thermostat without having to go into the attic.

Dont waste your money on these fans if you expect to control with newer phones ie...Samsung 9 or later. Reported issue 1 month after install. After several attempts at troubleshooting they "said" they sent to app devs. 3 months later called again and was never sent. After additional troubleshooting they said app doesnt work with later phones and devs are updating this app. 4 months later, still no update.

I recently installed two GAF Wi-Fi Vents on my roof. They connect to my phone much better with Bluetooth than with the Wi-Fi. My main issue is that the current Temperature reading is way off. Vent #1 reads 91F when it is actually 75F in the attic. Vent #2 reads 87F when it is really 75F. Is there an adjustment to properly calibrate the Temperature sensor, or some other solution?? There is no fan running indicator on the App. How do I know when the fan is actually running in Auto mode??

Paid to have WiFi vent fan installed by contractors. After installed couldn't connect with either bluetooth or WiFi. Called customer service who was absolutely useless. was going to have some call me back in 2 hours. I asked who is going to pay the workmen to stand around for 2 hours. A waste of time and money. PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT

Only device to device connectivity, no internet. Needs scheduling functionality and network access would be nice. Otherwise works well.

Love it. It works great I can see the humidity level and the temperature of the attic turn off and on the fan is the fan this thing is awesome. I would highly recommend this Attic fan

Vic. L. Aug 9, 2020

Took a while to figure out how to connect. you need to check on your phone make sure Wi-Fi is on and GPS is on. this app required location in order to work

War. M. May 1, 2019

Seriously --- "Wifi" my butt. Folks for "Wifi" to work you have to disconnect from your router and connect to the built-in Wifi on this fan... Can't connect at any distance... What a joke!!! I'm returning to HomeDeport ASAP. MAGA!

Ker. S. May 19, 2019

Rarely connects thru Bluetooth, even when directly in front of unit, and NEVER connects to WiFi.

Cha. K. Oct 1, 2020

Literally does not work at all like it says. Just get one without a wifi thermostat and call it a day

Eri. N. May 19, 2020

FDoesn't work doesn't stay connect with wifi and doesn't connect with bluetooth.

Dar. O. Nov 6, 2021

Controlling my attic fan is awesome from this app. Once set I don't have to change unless I wanted to

Dam. S. Jun 14, 2019

GARBAGE!! A total waste of money and time. Don't buy this product. The software doesn't work properly.

K. S. Apr 12, 2020

This is a horrible app. It is so frustrating. Never works!!!

Ton. R. Aug 20, 2021

I'm quite certain the CEO's second grade child wrote this app. In over a half a decade in IT, I've never seen anything this bad.

Mic. S. Jul 26, 2019

Would be better if there was an indication of the fan being on or off.

Tra. S. Jul 9, 2020

Complete trash ...the app , the connection process, the customer services ...do not purchase from GAF
