Update: Still not thrilled about it being a subscription but looks like they're actively improving the app now, and the new interface looks nice. Would like to see a filter by 'plant type' feature added, or maybe folders to put different plant groups together. Customer service is quick to respond via the play store, which is a plus.
From the last 4 days of using this I can see the benefit of this app, especially considering the spreadsheets I've been using the past 5 yrs. It's been rly nice. But another friggin monthly subscription?!?!? W/ no option for a yrly pass or to buy it outright? Common! Makes me want to go back to my spreadsheets! I'd pay to buy it, but not another stupid sub. The app itself is great & I love that I can put in my own plants. I could have used the top tier feats during my initial setup h/e no sub!!
Just what I’ve been looking for, a simple database to catalogue my collection. Just installed on iPad & the first issue I’ve come across is the inability to change view from portrait to landscape. Hopefully, this could be a simple addition. Could I also suggest the option to sort data. Only new to Gardenize but really like what I see. It will be time consuming to enter all my plants & info, but it’s a small price to pay for an app that’s perfect for what I need in pretty much every other way.
This is easily the best gardening app that I have found. Lots of reviews I've read here concentrate on what it doesn't do! But what it does, it does very well! I was looking for a way to record what was in my garden and beyond a simple spreadsheet, I thought I might find an app with a mapping feature and information about the plants. Gardenize does not have these things, but quickly made me realise I don't need them. The photos feature makes up for this and is incredibly useful. As well as progress photos, you can draw on a photo of your entire garden, and use colour coded keys to identify the plants. And you can also photograph the info tags that come with the potted plants to you buy. It's well designed, easy to use and virtually bug-free. So if you're looking for a way to catalog the plants in your garden, this is it!
Here's what it's missing; there needs to be a section for planning your annual garden, preferably with lists of companion plants. Maybe even a place to set alerts such as a change in your watering schedule or when to to pick up supplies before your seed order arrives. As it stands the app is just a fancy list of what you're growing so you can show it off, not so much a tool for the less self obsessed. It would be more helpful if you could list your plants and then lay them out into a grid.
Reliable, easy and free. I attached multiple pictures to my records. Today, I went to make an entry, and my old version was no longer supported and I had to update. The new free level allows one picture per record. I've never had a problem with the freemium model. Give more, better features to paying customers. But yesterday, I could add as many pictures as I wanted, for free. You already gave that to me. Today you took it away because you want more money. That doesn't fly with me. Goodbye.
UPDATE: jumped through hoops to log in via web site and pay for a yearly subscription for a lower price $5 AUD / month. Much better but still seems high for an app that is all user content. Anyway now when ever I log via my laptop it logs me out on my phone. Or vice versa. Is there a way to stop this? ~~~~~~~~~~ Was excellent but now crippled by monthly payments. $10 a month is not worth it to be able to add more than 3 photos. This is not netflix guys, it's and occasional use app.
First I liked this app, put all info for my garden/plants/activity. But after 2 months use, app doesn't show photos properly, only cropped thumbnails. I guessed, I have used up free storage, and tried to find out premium prices. On their website, monthly price is shown, but no monthly option on app's "go premium", just "10/20/30 exports", no clear explanation about "exports". I don't want to pay any money for such an untrustful app. Very disappointed. Moving onto Instagram for gardening diary
Love this app so much. It makes gardening so fun to organize and catalogue. I love the versatility - I actually create different events to document a wide range of activities/transformations in the garden. Two suggestions to make this app perfect: 1) I'm typically downloading the plant photos from the web so the ability to sort starting from most recent downloads (rather than endless scrolling to the bottom). 2) When you search for a plant, the search field hides the first result.
Very disappointed that the free version has removed functionality and now only shows one photo per plant. Whilst I understand you wish to recover some of your investment in the app, this is a sure way to lose users. A much better way would be to introduce a small one-off charge for the 'free version', not expensive subscriptions for what is quite a basic application.
The app allows a user to record a plant type and variety and an area planted, photographs may be included and other information added. There is no automatic information, for example enter Cabbage, but no cultivation information appears, other than what you may add. Basically this is a simple, flat file database and, being free, that's probably fine. I had an email recently offering me the discounted price of 17_50GBP - for a year. For that price I could additionally access it on a PC. Not fine.
Thank you for fixing the glitch in Android! App is working wonderfully again. I know some people are upset that you can't upload more than one photo in the free version, but I find that is sufficient for me. One thing I would ask is that events could be set annually (or bi-annually, or monthly, etc.) instead of one time events. I find gardening is an ongoing process.
I used this app back when it was completely free. Im glad to pay the fee because this app is awesome. Hoping that the ability to share new entrys with my follower list and see their latest entries on my feed. The chat is a cool feature but being able to post and have conversation on post is a better feature. Like if i could share an event entry ,as an example, and get commentary on it.
Edit from 3* to 1* -- After the update that I was forced to install today, the app is completely unusable without paying a monthly subscription fee. No additional benefit, just locking existing functionality behind a monthly subscription. And no, I don't care to hear about your yearly subscription, either. If you wanted me to buy into a subscription, you should have offered me new features. Uninstalling.
I've been using this app for several weeks now, and Im hooked! Day after day I add more and more plant details, reminders, hardiness tags, and general plant details/info copied and pasted in from the web. Love it! Yes, are some improvements that could be made, but I give it 5 stars as I see those as areas for further improvement, rather than negatives. Its not far off being just right, and Im sure offering constructive feedback will get us there. My garden and plants are now available in full colour on my phone (or tablet) Makes a change from boring friends with holiday photos! but mainly its all about the details and reminders. For those who complained about having to log in - its a real bonus to have the same info on both phone & tablet. (and soon laptop) Record updating works seamlessly and im surprised how easily it copes with two active devices.
I like this app very much. I am having a problem where the app is set to US date format but is still displaying dates in British date format. I really wish I could set recurring events so that it reminds me every year for tasks like feeding and pruning. It looks like I will have to just change the dates every time. Support response was to ask me to check settings for date, but as I said, I have changed the setting to US there and it still displays British.
I've just downloaded it, and I find it's brilliant, so far. However, I would like even more if it also had a kind of 'map' features, so to make you able create your garden's map, linked to the areas and showing a whole view of the plants in your garden. Maybe I'm asking too much though! Well done anyway!
After the update the free version is ruined. Only one picture per record. I thought I might purchase the app to support the developer but you have to subscribe and pay monthly to keep the features. But the worst part is that I can't even export my data I have entered in the app. For that I first need to buy a premium subscription. All my data is now held hostage. Awful.
I have found the earlier version of this app helpful for remembering what I planted and where. Then they notified me to upgrade to the newest version (and I pay the subscription) and it wiped out about five years of history. UPDATE: I am very happy to report that Gardenize's tech support team solved my problem very promptly and I now have full access to my whole five year history with this app. When I thought this app wouldn't work for me, I experimented with some other apps, none were as good
