Plan. File. Fly. Log.

Garmin Pilot is the most comprehensive suite of tools for Android designed specifically for general aviation and corporate pilots. Flight planning, Lockheed Martin and DUATS filing, charts, interactive maps, weather briefing resources and navigation capabilities; it’s all included. The app’s intuitive interface mirrors those on the newest Garmin touchscreen avionics so you can go seamlessly from preflight to inflight. Plan, file, fly with Garmin Pilot.

Plan

Garmin Pilot’s powerful capabilities start with pre-flight planning, providing pilots with the most comprehensive aviation weather information to make better-informed flight decisions. Pilots can check NEXRAD radar, visible and infrared cloud imagery, METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, PIREPs, NOTAMs, winds and temperature aloft, PIREPs, TFRs and lightning data. With Garmin Pilot, data can be displayed over a VFR sectional or an IFR low or high en-route chart to visualize the weather for your route. Add text-based weather widgets and use the exclusive NavTrack feature to view weather along the planned route.

File

With Garmin Pilot, users can easily enter a flight plan. Pre-loaded forms make it quick to save and reuse data for frequently flown routes. And when the flight plan is ready, Garmin Pilot makes it simple to file, cancel or close the flight plan via Lockheed Martin or CSC DUATS.

Fly

Garmin Pilot provides full en-route navigation capability on its moving map, while showing ETE, ETA, cross track error, distance to waypoint and current position.

Log

Garmin Pilot includes a comprehensive electronic logbook that syncs with flyGarmin. The logbook automatically generates entries based upon GPS data collected during the flight, tracks currency, supports manual entries, endorsements and creates reports.

Garmin Pilot. It’s the app aviators have been waiting for.

Features include:
- Charts: VFR Sectionals, low and high IFR en-route, airport diagrams and approach procedures
- Optional geo-reference Garmin FliteCharts® and Garmin SafeTaxi® show aircraft position on approach charts and taxiways
- Weather Maps: Animated radar, AIRMETs/SIGMETs, Lightning, PIREPs, METARs/TAFs, Winds Aloft, TFRs, Infrared and Visible Satellite
- Extensive text products: METARs, TAFs, Winds Aloft, PIREPs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, Area Forecasts and NOTAMs
- Dynamic weather overlays with your route displayed on map
- AOPA Airport Directory
- Flight plan filing via Lockheed Martin and DUATS
- Comprehensive weather data direct from the National Weather Service and Environment Canada

After purchasing a subscription, the app froze and crashed. I thought it might have just been a one-off event, but it continues to freeze and I've had enough. I purchased an iPad just to switch to Foreflight. I've also requested a refund for my subscription. I really wanted this app to work. I far prefer Android to iOS but this app just fell short in so many ways. The weather was always 12 hours out of date, for example, with no way to refresh it in-app. And of course, the freezing was a no-go.

Like others have said, runs perfectly on iPad, which is what I mainly run it on. As for the Android version, not so much. Especially the log book feature. Unfortunately I have way too much invested in Garmin products to move over to ForeFlight.. It's really a shame with Garmin being a pioneer of navigation equipment, and having the most extensive suite of avionics. They could easily have a corner on this market..

Opening the subscription tab freezes the app. I want to purchase the enhanced subscription but cannot. The same happens if I view subscriptions on the website. Garmin support told me to clear my browser cache. That won't help the app. It's clearly a problem with my subscription or subscriptions in general. Please help Garmin! Is an excellent app otherwise.

Keeps crashing. Small fonts. Seem that not a single developer has ever being in a cockpit. Almost useless, and Mr. Not-a-Bot just got an email with a ticket that is opened since past year and was never solved. Fun to talk to you!

So far i have been using GP on my pixel 5. I have not had any crashes. The main thing i can think of on the phone is that it isnt so user friendly. The searching is funky and there is alot of tabs you need to choose to get where you want to be. Also i when i add a procedure like an ils or rnav, the waypoints is not added to the map. I hope that is different when i get my tablet. If Garmin can help me out on that will be great. My only other issue with GP is that itcan work on more adsb devices.

It would appear garmin is taking our money and using it to improve IOS only. The current version is 10.7 but android is still only getting 8.1. Which was released several years ago. They claim to have updated in March of this year. But it's not an update.

Crashes. Buggy. Zero communication on bugs and time-line to fix. Poor and inaccurate guide. Trch support is available but are just apologists for the above.

I would rate higher if Garmin would be more compatible to other than Garmin components and programs. For that reason I'm considering other options. The app works well except for that.

I enjoy the app for navigation purposes however, I'm a little disappointed I can't use the app without a subscription to simply log a flight. I can do this on a computer which is fine, but the website does not allow the option for an instructor signature. Most of us have touch screens, please consider this change.

I agree with what's being said, Android version is a big disappointment. Avare actually works better for basic navigation. Also, everything should work exactly the same as on iOS including menus, etc. they should operate the same. Garmin, please get to work on this.

Does not work on android tablet. When it does load it does not sync with Leidos Flight Service account to file flight plans. It works fine on android mobile but still doesn't sync with Leidos correctly.

Garmin pilot is a wonderful app, but executed very poorly on Android. Love using it on Ipad and dread having to use the same on my android mobile. When most of it's features compared to foreflight are similar, the USP for Garmin was android compatibility. If that is executed poorly, customers will have no reason to choose Garmin.

Definitely not as reliable as Foreflight. Definitely don't rely solely on this app for an actual flight. The latest update no longer displays weather radar for some reason. The download manager is trash. Never knows how many download updates are available. This is probably the best app for Android but if you have an Apple device just stick with Foreflight.

I am currently using this app for IFR flight training. Some features of it are very nice, and there are parts of it that are easier to use than the other apps I have used, however, there are some very unacceptable features of it. I have had issues with it crashing, blocking features after updates, and many more small bugs. Overall if you have a product that is compatible and are planning on going for a commercial rating i would have to recommend ForFlight. Works well for VFR training.

I like this app a lot and it works well. I wanted to try it out on my Note 9 (with stylus) as I am working on my instrument rating. However, for some bizarre reason, the Scratch Pad is not available on the phablet versions of the app (as confirmed by phone tech support). I can get all the other features, but the Scratch Pad is important for taking down weather and clearances, etc. It's important to find a cockpit workflow and not having the Scratch Pad is a real downer. At least give users the option - they can decide on their phone version/ screen size, etc.

Use this on a Samsung Galaxy TAB S2 and a Garmin GDL-50 (not required). I see a lot of comparisons to Foreflight here. I've never used Foreflight because I've never owned an Apple product. So, perhaps I'm blissfully ignorant but, with that said, I love this application. Some of the functions are a little clunky (getting to airport details, for example), and I have seen the same issues some have mentioned here with download queuing not always behaving. But this has increased my situational awareness immeasurably. One issue I've encountered is (twice in a year) that the application has suddenly become VERY slow when starting up. Like several minutes slow. The only fix I've found is for "force-stop" the application, "Clear Cache" and "Clear Data," then start it up again. This causes everything downloaded to be lost, so I have to invest the time and Internet bandwidth to re-downloading sectionals, terrain database, en-route low charts, and so forth. The airport services/data/attractions database is often incorrect or out-of-date (FBOs change ownership/names, restaurants close, etc.), but I assume that's often on the facility to report that info. Not Garmin's fault, necessarily.

Lots of room for improvement. App occasionally hangs on startup after saying a one time download is required. Only fix is uninstall/reinstall. Then, when REdownloading charts and data, 4 items will download, then the next 4 items in the queue will move to the 'downloading' box and hang. When the app works, it's great, but it can be incredibly inconvenient.

Although it has a few good qualities, it is highly unreliable. To the point that if certain items in the menus are selected (such as demo mode or any IFR overlay), the app crashes and must be deleted and reinstalled to return functionality, it has no "self heal" capability. The flight planning is difficult to manipulate, lacking basic functions such as being able drag a waypoint to a different point the nav log order once entered, making on-the-fly changes dangerous for IFR. The logbook function is very glitchy, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. The safe taxi also flip-flops if you don’t taxi at exactly the correct speed, requiring user intervention at times when you don’t want it. The downloads and updates are also constantly hanging up – requiring restart and long periods of sorting and searching for what you want, and if you use the “download all” it needs 30gb and will loose it if you have to reset for the first issues. All in all, it feels very underdeveloped. But the good side is the colors are nice. It's great for a flight sim, but don't trust it in an actual aircraft.

Col. N. Feb 14, 2020

This is a decent app for flight planning and navigation. I installed it hoping that it would integrate with the GTN navigator even better than the other popular app that I use but it doesn't. I haven't figured out a way to select an approach in the app as part of my flight plan and upload it to the navigator. It also lacks some features as the lack of ability to file a VFR flight plan in Canada. GTN extension features like Avidyne IFD100 app would be nice. I look forward to more development.

Sluggish...requires a full reload about once every 6 weeks. I am a pilot and need an electronic flight bag app. I do not want to buy an Apple product, so that takes Foreflight off the table. Have a nice, powerful Samsung SM-T820 with 32 GB of RAM. The app runs great for 5 to 7 flights, then gets so sluggish that it is unusable. I just had to reload again in a hotel to be able to use on a return flight. I am an IT pro and happy to work with Garmin to troubleshoot, but support never contacts me.

What is the point of including weather if it is so difficult to find predictions? A slide on the bottom right allows the user to look at the previous hour of weather, but what about the future?? Why not include a slide which leads to forecasted winds and weather, making it easier to plan? The menus are clunky, and the checkpoints are annoying. Please include an option to [remove all checkpoints] please. As of now, I use the aviation weather site for my flight planning, even after paying for this

Constantly hangs during FAA Navigation Data Download/ Update. When it happens, the only fix is uninstall and redownload. The hang happens very sporadic. Sometimes I can use it for weeks with no problems. Other times it happens each time app is opened. I have had subscription for 3 years and this just started about 6 months ago. Please fix. 5 Star if it gets fixed. Im using Galaxy Note 9 with most current updates. It does not happen on my Ipad.

Muh. S. Apr 5, 2021

Had some minor glitches but my overall experience has been great. It would be nice if it wasn't so proprietary in regards to NOT being able to use other adsb-in devices. Had to lower my review. Latest updates render demo mode useless. It keeps crashing when I try to access demo mode. It does this on multiple devices so problem is not on my end.

Fed. T. Apr 4, 2021

The app has amazing functionality and integration capabilities. The integration however restricted to just Garmin devices. The interface sometimes is cumbersome and non-intuitive. Most points taken off for the forced updates. I don't always have chance to update the app on start, having the data bandwidth barely enough to get weather... At these points the app rendered unusable.

bad. May 30, 2020

Amazing App but this is a trial version and it cannot be purchased, only paid for at an expensive yearly rate. The map updates are sold seperately for a nice price. This is not labeled as a purchasable app in google play. I am very unhappy with this approach. I would have purchased the app for the yearly fee, but I dont want an app I have to keep paying a steep price for over and over again each year. I had to log in to see the price.

Jus. W. Jan 10, 2020

The app itself is great, I've really enjoyed using it. Supporting Android and iOS is great because now you're not locked to specific hardware for your phone or tablet. The biggest letdown, and reason I'm switching to ForeFlight after enjoying a year with Pilot, is the complete lack of support for any ADS-B hardware that isn't Garmin. My club aircraft has Stratus, and I'm not going to change/buy hardware for the sake of my EFB, not sure why anyone would. Hope this changes.

Phi. B. Apr 30, 2021

Not gonna give a proper rating, because I have no clue how the product works. It's stuck on the required downloads part, it's not finishing. Not making sense to go through the trial period anyway, since I'm currently not flying to be able to check it out. Bit of a waste of a trial, since that it has actually started, and I haven't even open the program.

I am a helicopter pilot, and the update in October made this app USELESS. Crashing while flying, no more SynVis or split screen view. The developers listened to the new issues we were having via bad reviews and fixed the problem as of November 1st. In less than a week! I just changed my review from 1 to 5 stars. This is the best app for pilots. Thank you for listening to the reviews and making proper changes quickly. Happy flying everyone. 🚁🛫🛸

I am confused. I see the example screenshots but that doesnt exist in the app. I need foreflight...but I use android. I have avia maps which is great for flight plans and airspace but it does not show OS maps and terrain. This app says it shows terrain but does not show a map of terrain...unless I am flying (map is altitude responsive). I just need an OS map and an aviation chart all at the same time so I can plan my routes. Am I missing a feature here?? Display frequencies at airspace😉
