GedStar Pro Genealogy Viewer
There are four basic views: Personal Details; Family Group; Ancestor Tree; and Descendant Tree. There are several ways to navigate up and down a line of descent, and to search for specific people. An extensive menu of other features is available, such as for viewing your complete family photo gallery. Includes the "On This Day" widget as part of the GedStar Pro app with the new name "GedStar Today".
This app requires the use of a free Windows conversion program, which is available from our website. A sample database is included with the Android app so you can explore the user interface without having to convert your own data.
The database is stored on your device's internal memory and there are no limits on the number of people or amount of other data. It has been tested on a database of over 40,000 individuals.

This app is excellent. I wanted something to view my family tree and be able to show it to family. I was not looking to edit my data. This app is easy to use and intuitive. The extra step needed to convert to Gedstar format is quick, easy and no inconvenience at all. Keep up the good work
This is amazing! I have tried many Family Tree apps and this is the first that does everything I want. I use Legacy on my PC, but Gedstar on my phone and tablet just zooms along with 12,000 people and has an unbelievable amount of accessible data in a very small file. When out and about this has everything available instantly - and doesn't need internet access. It's not designed to be your main Family Tree database, but it's handling of Legacy files is brilliant, meaning reference to info when researching away from home is a breeze. Also great as a database for births of living people. My only suggestion to users is to place the program in the Secure Access of your phone so that no one else can access the info.
Does what it states very well. In my case opens TMG file, converts it to GedStar format, this can then be saved in Google Drive and then read by my Mobile as a read only file, which is great for a quick reference tool and easily accessible. FULL MARKS! 👍
To con its users into paying, you are forced to install a PC program & then pay to convert your gedcom into their proprietary format. Only then can you view your tree data on this app. To top it all off, your tree is read-only, as this app doesn't support editing. As a genealogist of 26 years and an IT tech for 17, I have to say, between the developer's shady tactics for generating revenue and the ridiculous steps needed to make this app useful, it does not even deserve the 3 stars it has now.
Awesome. I do all my work on a PC in RootsMagic, but this app is fantastic to keep your info close by. Worth every minute of going thru the conversion and transfer to your phone.
Be nice if there was at least one helpful hint on how to convert your ged file. Got tired of trying to convert it and just uninstalled program. To bad seemed like a good program to use.
I like it. Gedstar Pro shows data for an individual, family, ancestors, and descendants. And there is a search feature for looking up everyone on the database.
This program will not work without access to a user's photos. Not impressed. I would actually prefer to not even give this program one star. I would orefer the option bof zero stars.
Works great and is easy to maneuver. GedStar Today tells me the ancestor events in my family every morning. Fantastic!

I was hoping to use this app to load gedcom files in Android but it would not read my gedcom.
Rubbish does not allow you to open converted file.

If you have done family research using a PC program, this program will convert your gedcom file to a format which can be read on your Android phone or tablet. I can now view all 8600 people records I've researched. If you have not done family research, you shouldn't be leaving a bad review. This app is ingenius!
Would not import simple gedcom file without separate conversion utility aimed at pc installation. Not useful for my application. I'm removing this as it's useless for my needs.
Great app. Excellent support. Very nice UI, including photos of people. Data stored locally, so it works awesome anywhere. Been using it since 2011. I love it!
All is good, except it crashes when I try to search.
You MUST install a separate program to open your gedcom, then convert to their proprietary format, then export to this viewer. Needs to import, convert and display from the viewer. Uninstalled.
App fills my need for read only access to data generated by desktop app TMG. I really like it.
A simple and easy to use viewer of GEDCOM files. I have used this happily for many years and it meets my requirement for a viewer of the database which I maintain on my Windows PC. I suspect that many of the users who complain just don't understand that the app is a viewer and not an editor.

I dont understand the negative reviews. No you cant edit your data or add to it except you compile a new database but the developers were open about this on the site. And thats not a hard thing to do. This is a brilliant program that allows you instant access to family tree and photos. it is what it is and it is in my view great. Tech assistance from the developers is first class and speedy. Great app
