GetBlue Bluetooth Reader, Demo

GetBlue provides automated data acquisition and manual device communication for Bluetooth SPP devices, serial USB devices, TCP/IP, HTTP and camera barcode-scanners.
OVERVIEW: GetBlue collects data from Bluetooth SPP, serial USB, TCP/IP, HTTP and camera scanners automatically in the background. The captured data is forwarded to adjustable target devices, files, online spreadsheets or even injected into 3rd party applications. Bi-directional device communication is supported, manual communication functions for reading and writing data are available as well.

DETAILS: The data acquisition app GetBlue can be operated like a cross-switch: it captures data from an adjustable data source and forwards it to any supported target. The following devices and protocols are currently available:
• Bluetooth SPP and Bluetooth RFCOMMAll serial Bluetooth devices supporting the Serial Port Profile (like SPP or RFCOMM barcode scanners) can be used. GetBlue supports Bluetooth client and Bluetooth server mode, thus device as well as PC connections are possible.
• Serial USB May not work on some Androids. FTDI and Prolific chipsets are supported.
• TCP/IP SocketAny device providing a raw TCP/IP socket.
• HTTP HTTP GET and HTTP POST requests with adjustable parameters.
• Camera scannersAny external camera scanner app can be used.
• Manual data inputDevice commands can be entered manually

Captured data can be forwarded via Bluetooth, USB, TCP/IP and HTTP to any target device. In addition the collected data can be
• displayed (HEX or ASCII)
• stored locally in a file (including time-stamps)
• uploaded to a Google Docs Spreadsheet
• or injected into arbitrary apps on the smartphone via the GetBlue soft-keyboard (keyboard wedge operation).

APPLICATION SCENARIOS: GetBlue is used as keyboard wedge (scanning barcodes with a Bluetooth scanner and injecting the bar code data into arbitrary apps), as automated data logger (e.g. uploading captured data to a Google Docs spreadsheet or storing it into a local file), for controlling Bluetooth devices, as low-cost barcode scanner connected to a PC, etc.

FREE SUPPORT: In case of problems, questions or feature requests please contact us via e-mail ([email protected]) or Skype (TECITSupport).

KNOWN PROBLEMS: USB support may not work on your device. Some Android handsets are using buggy Bluetooth firmware and SPP communication may not work reliable (you will see SPP errors). The following procedure may help:
• Switch of Bluetooth and stop all related apps
• Reboot handset
• Switch Bluetooth on
• Re-pair with your device
• Use GetBlue

Many THANKS for your comments and ratings!

FULL VERSION: A paid version without demo-limitations is available in the Android Market. All features are identical. Just search for Apps published by TEC-IT.

Great product and service.

Good app, but is it possibel to scan more than one bar code for one box. I would like to put in excel first cell: box number, than serial number than quantity and maybe more for one box. And than in new row new box. (Product1: cell A1,B1,C1,D1); Product2: cell A2,B2,C2,D2). Perhaps direct editing in Google sheet android app where to put code?

I really appriciate it..

What costs more? A ps2 barcode scanner you can get online for 20 bucks or this app that costs 25 bucks, is a pain to connect via bluetooth, and a pain to scan using a phone camera. Just saying.

I've only used the app for about an hour now...and so far I am impressed. I develop microcontrollers and I am working with people who make apps, and this app seems to fill the gap between what I am doing and what they are doing so we can focus on our ends for development. I am really impressed by the execution of the Google spreadsheet integration. You can watch the update in real time. Just one problem, I wasn't sending much data and after a few minutes, I already had 41 datapoints in buffer, then when you stop, you lose those values. First, why is that so slow? I'm only sending 2 bytes per second, and second, the buffer should clear to the spreadsheet after I stop. Good work!

Love it. Please update with wifi connection.

Price for registered version is too high, especially when you need to buy a capturing program for 90-150€ to use it. Reduce the cost for both! EDIT: I have tried the demo, and everytime I try to start I'm having difficulties connecting the application to the computer. It is not acceptable to have to spend 15+ minutes before the connection is established.

Really useful app!

I set up a demo application, using one GetBlue app on a cellphone (HTC Sensation), reading from BTserial source in client mode, and serving on port 8080 to a second GetBlue app on a tablet (Kindle Fire with CyanogenMod 10.1.3), also in client mode. Both set to non-raw, with CRLF termination. The BT data source (3rd item, a Parallax Prop with BT module) was set to send a 'line' of data once a second. About 4 times a minute GetBlue Demo injects a "please register" line, substituted for an actual data packet (data loss, but I assume this is by design and likely covered in the manual). The problem I have is the 2nd GetBlue client (Kindle Fire) is showing an occasional packet split into 2 pieces, and the 2nd portion is 'shown' (aka delivered) after the next transmission from 1st GetBlue client/server (HTC Sensation). The data on the 1st GetBlue is intact. These failures are not coincidental with the injected "please register" substitutions. All of the failure instances (so far) exhibit with the 2nd portion is the last 8 characters (6 'visible' ascii text, followed by CRLF) of the original line, and the first portion is all of the characters up to but not including the last 8.

Used it to test BT communication with an Arduino UNO. Worked perfectly, and was a HUGE help in testing.
