The video rewards don't always work, and the game freezes sometimes (not too often for me personally.) The later levels seem to be more luck based than skill based, to make you more inclined to buy power-ups, but I got it as a time waster and because it was a tie in app for a site I loved as a kid, so I'm not bothered by that, and don't buy the power-ups.
Costs way too much for extras and you end up needing them to play. A LOT harder than similar games after the first 15 or so levels, to the point where it feels like they've done that so you buy extras, and extras are overpriced for what you get so you'll end up spending a lot if you do buy into it. And it's glitchy, sometimes I win games and have a star rating but it makes me repeat playing it till I've won twice. Which is really frustrating.
It's okay. You can earn a lot of Neopoints in the first few levels, but the difficulty curve is too steep, and the game becomes unplayable within just 20 levels without forking over cash for power-ups. (There seems to be no way to get them without spending real money?) I never understood micro-transactions just to get one-use power-ups vs a unique petpet or something. Seems like a giant rip-off and also in poor taste when Neopets is geared towards kids who might not know any better.
It's an okay game. Good for pooling more resources in Neopets, assuming you can actually sign into your account to link it. The app itself is a bit slow and takes a minute to load, but it's definitely been improved over the years, especially compared to how bad it was at launch. The game itself is hard. The score you need to pass feels way too high in most levels and the game can get a little pushy about in-app purchases. Overall, not the worst game, but I've played better.
Clunky ... The screen calibration feels shot. I have to tap on Play a good five times before it registers. The amount of matches you can make is limited - 'no matches available, reshuffling' appears far too often, if that gives you an idea. Severely limited powerups. I am not paying $1 for every power up. Gameplay screen is small. Honestly, with the resources available, more could have been done. Going in the Pokémon Shuffle direction would have helped immensely.
a basic "match 3" game; the art is nice and polished! although tbh if this wasn't a neopets game I probably wouldn't play it. I love that you can earn NPs, but I really wish powerups were easier to come by or less expensive. as other reviews have said the difficulty curve goes up sharply and it's very hard to beat levels without them. I also wish there was a confirmation screen/prompt when you choose to use a powerup, because I've more than once accidentally selected one and wasted it.
Fun game that allows me to make neopoints during my downtime at work. The monitization kind of stinks but it's not too bad. The worst bug I've encountered is when the screen goes dark and the only thing I can do is restart my app and lose a life- it seems like it happens the most when the ad at the bottom changes.
The idea is great, but the levels get too difficault too fast. If you don't buy boosters it's pretty much just 1 star or no star per level. The pointing system is not working. If my first row is 100 p.p ghoul then if it automatically creates a new row of 3 it should be 20p p.p ghoul. Now everything stays 100 points. Even when you use the power ups or the combo. Overall, not bad but not great either.
A great app and a great way to earn Neopoints. The characters are cute, and it's a fun way to earn while you're away from your computer at home. I do think it needs some work. I (and others) get the "neopoint limit reached" message when I havent played for over 24 hours. At the moment, I cant pass level 23 because it won't let me click the level. I never get a message why I can't continue, I'm not sure I have to go back and get higher scores or something. Overall, good app but needs some work!
So far it's a pretty good game. Sometimes the little Characters don't work right, and when you click on them to play that level, it registers the level after it (I assume that's what it's doing anyway) and says I don't have enough stars yet. Also, every day after my very first day, at the end of a level, it tells me I've reach my maximum neopoints for the day. Luckily, even though it says that, I am still rewarded my points on the website. Outside of that I'm pretty happy with the game overall
It's really fun but after one play a day it started saying that I've reached my neo point limit bow instead of the normal 50 times, also the level progression goes from 0-100. It's fun and easy and then it's almost impossible without purchasing power ups. There should be a way to earn power ups at least a few times a day by watching ads or something.
Ghoul Catchers, simply put, is a functional but uncreative take on the Bejeweled-styled games. The graphics are cute, but the game offers virtually nothing to stand out. There are far more games of this genre that stand out above this. Very boring gameplay, frustrating progression that I'm almost certain is impossible to continue without paying, even with extreme luck, and quite a good bit of lag makes this a disappointment. The only incentive to play is if you still mess with the Neopets site.
Functional, good looking and a very easy way to earn Neopoints, but a fairly generic match-3 game somewhat lacking in originality. It also doesn't take long to reach a wall where it seems to be next to impossible to progress without paying for extra turns or powers.
I think the game is really fun. It's basically a matching game. The levels do become harder, which makes it difficult unless you pay for special tools to help. I mostly play for the 50k a day of neopoints it gives my neopet account. The little ghouls are kind of cute, too! I give this game 3 stars because sometimes the game doesn't load or gives other problems. It used to work on Facebook but not anymore, and now it's only available as an iphone app, which not everyone has.
Cynical and poorly programed. There is at least one level that is impossible to complete without paying for power ups (literally every move would require a match of one specific colour while it is statistically impossible for enough to even appear over the course of the number of turns, let alone in matchable positions). Some 'supermatches' eliminate others from the board when triggered without activating them and there's little rhyme or reason to the results of combining others.
Why is it so difficult? The levels are clearly totally randomly generated within parameters that sometimes result in no possible matches until you waste a few moves at the top of the board and it shuffles them. It's also unfortunate that you have to pay for items because it feels like you need them to win.
Not loading. Played the game just fine for the last week but now it doesn't even load... which is an absolute shame bc i genuinely like the game. Ive tried uninstall/reinstall, cleared my data/cash, restarted my device. It was a convenient cute little match game with a big neopoints bonus (which makes it better than all the other little match games since you can use it to work toward something else). If I could get some user support to get it running again I would give it a 5/5, but all the user support seems to be "yeah, its broken" and "tough luck"
A bejeweled style game. The ghoul designs as well as interface design feel lazy, and the entire game is very clear about what it wants to be: a way to make money off advertisements. It's fine to waste time and/or get some extra neopets related stuff, but otherwise... meh. Microtransactions are too aggressively in your face. It's fine for getting NP.
It brings nostalgia that I am playing a part of neopets but it doesn't feel like it. There are no pets to play with. It feels better playing on the website where you can actually control a neopet. The login as well needs to be input repeatedly when you open the app, it doesn't remember. As well there are no ads to double your winnings. Hopefully there are more games or improvements, it's a tad boring like a predeveloped candy crush. PLEASE MAKE A APP VERSION OF THE NEOPETS SITE. So it will be a accessible version on phones.
If bad cell signal it will say I need -1 stars to get to the next set of levels, and I have 49/-1 stars. Back in cell range, its actually 50 needed. Took me a while to figure out what stars its talking about. Still dont know where # lives are and what exactly the items do without wasting them. Lower levels too small to be reliably successful. Often board must reshuffle 1-2 moves in b/c no legal moves. Pls also let me opt out of asking every day if I want to connect to Facebook (NO!)
This game could be great if they took the time to put more effort into it. If they fixed some of the bugs and made it look as good as other games of its type. It's not bad though and it's a great way to get neopoints if you ignore the limit message. I think it's a great idea and if done right now games connected to the site to make NP could really take off.
I love neopets, and this is sad. For a game released in 2019, you couldn't tell. The help text is show at the bottom of the screen below the game box. The whole game is a small candy crush box with ghoul characters that have limited to no expression. The characters feel stick like you're moving puzzle pieces. There's no clear story. This is a regression not progression.
After playing a few times it just flat out refused to load, and even reinstalling didn't fix it. Not like I actually wanted to play the game since it's a garbage uninspired glitch fest, but I thought I could at least get some ezpz np out of it. Protip for your next attempt at a mobile game: actually do the bare minimum and make sure it WORKS before releasing it.
Doesn't load on my phone anymore (I've tried restarting my phone, clearing the data/cache, uninstalling and reinstalling, and changing my neopets password which is a Reddit suggestion) which is a shame because I really enjoyed playing this game. Idk when it stopped but I think I last played it in late August, so probably when the last update came out. My phone is a Pixel 2 with OS Android 9. I'll update my review if the game gets fixed for me but it's frustrating not being able to play, especially since my phone isn't really old or anything.
The app plays functions mostly, but sometimes it gets stuck on a loading screen and won't budge. The game is great for making neopoints, but TNT still have not fixed the bug where the app says you have reached the point limit when it is a new day.
It'd be a fun little game, if it wasn't Pay-to-Win, but some levels are borderline impossible to beat without powerups. Also a lot of dumb avoidable glitches and crashes. Wish I could say I expected more from Neopets, but it's pretty par for the course.
please optimize the app! I have fat fingers and the game's hitboxes wont register properly. The RNG to loading the app is too inconsistent. 95% of the time, the app wont open. Why only 120 levels? the levels are clearly random generated? Why cant you guys just randomize your RNG's seed? SeedString shouldnt be bound to a lower integer. At least allow us to reset our progress.
Cheaply made, usual neopet game quality. Feels like a junior high student made it. Audio on the menu screen clips out now and then. Weird mattress squeak noise whenever you make a match and a replay of a fifteen second music clip on loop. Didn't expect much from neopets, but definitely uninstalled about three minutes in. There are many, MANY better "three match 'em up" apps out there. Don't choose this one.
I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt, but the steep difficulty curve forces me to play level 1 repeatedly for NP. There's no way you can consistently get even 2 star ratings after level 10. It's also glitchy so, despite having unlocked level 20, I have to play through level 19 (win or lose) in order to access level 20. In a game where it's easy to lose lives, I find myself playing the hardest level of the area, already a life down, further increasing the difficulty.
