The software works ok, however we find the unit has a hard time regulating the set temperature. Our other thermostat kept it right on the requested setting. Lastly, it says it works with Google home, it somewhat shows up, but you can't use it. Not sure who is at fault, but we can't set it through Google home. Otherwise, it's a really stylish unit.

Terrible app, had trouble from day one. The thermostat is ok. I am a retired HVAC technician, so installation was easy and straightforward, but I think it would be fairly simple if you are reasonably handy. Thermostat seems to work reasonably well, although they have dropped Cortana functionality. Thermostat is attractive, and has some features such as air quality that other competitors don't offer. However it is no better than the ten year old commercial Honeywell stat that it was replaced with.

Love the thermostat, it looks straight out of Mass Effect and I'm blown away. But the app is pretty laggy and slow to respond. It seems like I'm constantly having to log back into it as well which is a pain. It never remembers me. And when I log in it takes a while to get it connected and working. The nice thing about the Nest app was that it worked seamlessly and I could load it up in seconds and have my thermostat temp changed quick from the app. If this gets fixed, it's an easy 5 stars.

The thermostat itself is actually pretty nice, smooth interface and so far (almost a year in) no issues. I do really like how the app is designed just like the device itself, makes navigation easy. However, the app will not stay signed in so everytime I want to do something remotely I have to go through the stupidly long process of signing in again and that is a huge inconvenience.

App worked great until the last update. Now everytime I change a setting, for them to show up as changed in the app I have to close out of the app and open it back up to see my change in the settings. Operates very very slow. I thought the whole idea of updates to an app was to improve them not make them harder to use. I have contacted the company about another issue I have with the settings in the thermostat and app, said they would get back to me in a couple days. It's been three months.

Dec 5 Update - The house lost power on Nov 27. This caused the thermostat to restart and connectivity was restored. Can't really count on power failures but this gives me a chance to restart the clock on reliability. Increasing to two stars. Nov 20. OK today until it couldn't connect. Stay away if you need dependable access. Update broke connectivity. Basically garbage now. Used to Work well. Good interface. I'd give it 4 stars but it loses connection and needs to be restarted.

The app takes quite a while to start. Thirty seconds or so, typically. It's not nearly as well featured as Nest or other options. The thermostat itself isn't so great as far as reliability. My power recently went out while I was out of town. I came home to discover a cold house and a thermostat that had factory reset. As far as I could tell, it doesn't run at all in that mode. The house was cold, but thankfully we live in a mild climate. This could have been catastrophic in a cold climate.

Pros: Looks cool,Touch screen very responsive,Easy to install and setup,Easy to setup with Amazon Alexa. Cons: App very slow to load. MISSING FEATURES: Similar to Nest, auto mode you have to set cool and heat mode separately. Why can't I just set the temp I want for the house and it can automatically set the cool to +1 and heat to -1 of the temp I selected. Or better yet, you should be able to select the epsilon of degrees away from desired temp you are okay with... having to change both is lame!

Garbage quality app. As many others have pointed out, the app is insanely slow to open and forgets your password all the time. The app has not been updated recently, and at this point seems to be completely abandoned by the developer. Imagine every single time you want to adjust the temperature you have to login and go through a 20+ second pause.

App has repeatedly kicked me out, forcing a new login. Which wouldn't be terrible except there's no fingerprint/face/other fast option to login. This disconnect has also coincided with the breaking of the link between Amazon Echo devices, making me have to go through the skill linking process again too. App is extremely slow when compared to others (ie Nest). The forced removal of Cortana is a bummer. The only good things about the device are the air quality checking and cool design.

Ever since the most recent update (1.2.76) I've been unable to open the app, all I get is a green/blue background screen. Even before the update the app had some issues, the main one being was that it was so slow to load/connect to thermostat that I might have to wait up to 30 seconds before any data was loaded. When the app did work good I enjoyed it but that was a long time ago. Unfortunately I dont believe JCI has any interest in keeping their customer base happy with this one off thermostat.

App does not open. Only green background comes on. I have android 10 and android 8. It works on neither one. Edit: I called their tech support and spoke to Mike. He had me send screen shots of both my phones that the app didn't work on. Turns out that the app didn't work because I disabled animations in the developer options. Once I re enabled animations the application worked. On both phones.

I purchased this based on look. Not knowing much about it. But liked the idea of it. I have many smart home items. This is by far junk. At least the app side. I have yet to get the app to launch since day one. It just shows a green an blue screen. Then fails to start. Don't waste your time an effort on the company or product.

Great thermostat, really easily the most gorgeous piece of smart tech in my home, but the app which has always been slow and occasionally required you to re log in now is slow and requires you to log in every time. I enjoyed having a smart thermostat to save me from walking to it to change the temperature but at this point my house isn't big enough to warrant sitting there waiting for the login screen and then waiting for it to load. Pretty sad because it's otherwise great hardware!

Update: after almost a year using the thrrmosrat/app I have to say it works as expected and better in some ways. My work schedule varies from time to time and I've noticed that the away mode is predominant when there is no activity present to activate the normal schedule. If needed it will maintain a temp just outside of the set comfort zones to save energy while away. There are Alexa and smart life integrations available but the unit is discontinued from Johnson controls.

Slow. And should be ashamed of moving a highlighted feature to get this device , and I'm talking about Cortana. You have a speaker and microphone in this device for nothing now. Alexa can be used for only the most basic control and the product is back to pretty much a beta test. The app remains slow and counterintuitive

Cannot restart in app. Thermostat has no off/kill switch. Thermostat touchscreen froze, which is the only way to restart the device. The in app system off was also unresponsive and the thermostat was not capturing the correct indoor temperature, which is the bare minimum a thermostat should do. It kept heating my house nonstop, eventually reaching 77 degrees, whereas I keep the temperature at 71. Eventually had to take the wiring apart to shut it down and restart. Worst experience.

Very basic bland app but the thermostat itself is very elegant. Seems like the thermostat has more potential but after a few years of having it, I haven't seen any update/upgrade. Pretty disappointed. I feel my old Nest E had better options but not as appealing to the eyes. Back to the app, it sucks and Alexa can't connect.

This is a beautiful & great thermostat. I bet some of the reviewers of this app haven't connected the "c" wire - common wire for 24 volts. Normal t-stats don't require them, but smart thermostats work better with one. Most t-stat installs should have a spare wire, just connect that to the common side of the 24v and you'll be better off. The only improvement I'd like to see would be to be able to leave the screen in all the time. It's beautiful Johnson, allow me to leave it on & show it off

This app needs an update. Its slow and I can't change the schedule. It lets me change the schedule but never saves. The Alexa skill could use some more features and to actually work more then it doesn't. I do love the look of the thermostat it self but the smart features need some more smarts.

This app is pretty terrible compared to other smart apps. It's very buggy. At times I can't make changes on the app I get a can't reach server error and it's very basic. Its integration with the amazon echo is laughable you can't do much at all. It would also be nice when you tell the amazon echo you are going away the thermostat is set to away as well just like adt does. I would say there is alot of work do do still and for such a nice thermostat they should not have allowed such a juvenile app

A. G. u. Dec 5, 2018

It doesn't stay open most of the time. Requires turning off thermostat to connect each time. Each time you open the application to connect you have to power cycle the phone. When you call support you are told they are working on it and next month it will be fixed. That was in July 2018 and still the application doesn't work for Android phones.

A. G. u. Dec 11, 2019

Imagine buying a $200 thermostat partly for the app functionality and then the app doesn't even work anymore. I've had the thermostat for several months, loved it, then last month I stopped being able to log in. It's insane that they're even still marketing the thermostat at all. I didn't really care at first, but honestly I paid for mobile access and I expect mobile access. I know some college kids that could fix this in a weekend, if you want their numbers.

A. G. u. Sep 4, 2019

Slow app and poor support. My password wouldn't work after I signed out. I tried to reset, but I am not getting reset key email, I have tried literally 50 times in last 48 hours. Called customer support and I was advised to keep trying as they are aware of problem and they have no way of helping manually (short of just returning the item). It is pathetic, beautiful device and software on the device, but poor service from Johnsons.

A. G. u. Dec 7, 2019

Well let me start by saying what a let down. If you don't own a newer samsung device you should be okay and I use should very cautiously. App will not run on my s10 or my s6 tab. Called support and they stated never had another call about this problem but mine. I checked with other s10 friends and the app will not load on their devices either. I like the thermostat but not being able to control it remotely is a joke. I would be better off installing an old mercury bubble thermostat.

A. G. u. Oct 11, 2018

The app and my thermostat never stay connected. My husband and I are constantly restarting the app and thermostat to reconnect it. What is the point of a smart thermostat that we have to go to in our hallway to control but can't keep it connected to be controlled by our phones? Very disappointed.

A. G. u. Apr 1, 2019

Update 4/1: on vacation and the app has shown my thermostat as offline for the past 8 days. Simply unacceptable. update 3/1: the app has settled down and is consistently crash free! It's still very slow to load, but decent functionality. Latest update has really crippled the app. Is my thermostat even working? Who can tell?

An amazing experience using the thermostat itself, plauged by a God awful app. It doesn't matter which device you use on what platform, it's awful on all of them which is the really unfortunate reality of it. The app takes forever to open (about 20-30 seconds) on my $2,000 Galaxy Fold, the app has crashing issues, and a terrible UI for my Galaxy Tab. Overall I just can't recommend this thermostat right now. I don't write reviews that often, but this needed to be heard. Get a Nest or an Ecobee.

A. G. u. Aug 25, 2019

Was great with Cortana. Now, even after re-enabling it, Alexa just says 'server unresponsive'. Why didn't they just leave Cortana and Alexa alone! I don't want to have to find my phone and bring up this app just to turn on the air conditioning or change the temperature!

I went from a WiserAir thermostat to GLAS because saw in WindowsCortana it was something could pair, I would not have known about it otherwise and wanted to use it with my HarmanKardon Invoke. Then a month after I got it they removed Cortana. The app isn't well designed, WiserAir had a better concept to make their app look and function like the actual thermostat, GLAS looks cool, so hope they will redesign app to match. Please add Cortana control back!
