GMC My CPD

If you’re a doctor practising in the UK, you’ll be familiar with the challenges of maintaining your CPD amid a pressured work schedule.
Opportunities for learning happen every day, though we don’t always have time to note them down, never mind reflect on them.

The GMC’s My CPD app for doctors lets you keep a record of your learning on the go. As long as you have your phone or tablet close by, you’ll be able to note points of learning and reflections, quickly and easily, there and then.

You can maintain as many activities as you wish, and categorise them according to the GMC’s Good medical practice domains, your personal development plan objectives, or however you like.

You can also assign CPD credits to activities and keep an eye on how many you’ve recorded during your appraisal year.

Of course, ultimately CPD’s about improving the care you provide for patients, and the app can help you chart that too. For any learning activity, you can note a change you plan to make to your practice, and it will prompt you at a future date to consider the effects of the change.

Many doctors already have a system for managing their CPD, though not necessarily a portable one. You’ll be able to export any or all of your learning activities from this app to another system as you need to.

Gone will be the days of having to store hundreds of certificates from conferences at seminars – you can take a picture with your device and append them to the learning activity on the app.

Tips and case studies to help you plan and reflect on your CPD and prepare for appraisal are also provided, plus news highlighting learning opportunities.

This app has been designed for all licensed doctors who are registered with the General Medical Council in the UK.

To keep your information safe and secure, the GMC’s My CPD app is designed not to run on a rooted device. This is in line with guidance sought from a leading information security partner on the serious information risks associated with running applications on a rooted device.

The GMC needs to re-take ownership of this app. If they aim for it to become a standard in CPD-recording it needs to be frequently updated. The 'topics' section dates back to 2017 with no updates since then. Nonsense formatting when converting CPD activities into PDF's: -Some titles go missing entirely -Longer titles are cut off the or continue to the edge of the page -Some characters are not read (leading to square boxes) -Some text is overlaid on top of other text -Formatting is frequently erratic, nonsense or lost. A very good idea, performed very poorly. I highly doubt anyone will be reading this at the GMC.

Not great, but was functioning as an app to record my CPD on the go. Now the GMC are closing this app on 19 November 2020. They ave provided a reminder of how to get my information off the app, but this now doesn't work. I have emailed the help email more than a month go with no reply, and it looks like I am now going to loose all my CPD data loaded over several years. Very Poor!!

This app is really useful but desperately needs a desktop companion as typing reflections is much easier with a proper keyboard and screen than on a mobile device. I am sure I'm not the only one who uses this to quickly log an activity in real time but then reflects later on.

It needs to have a desktop app too- the mobile app is good on the go, but it would be easier to enter and link and review CPD activities on a desktop.

Use an android phone - huwawei . The app is a breeze to use to record CPD activities. But failed to send cpd as CSV or excel file! So unfortunately, the purpose of app was not served.

Recently found that app is using a lot of background data (almost 900mb in last 28 days). Why is that?

In principle a GMC sanctioned app is a no brainer. However, I would not recommend it. It does not left me try to entry stuff Offline, it is trying to link to the account. I have reverted to the tried and tested Evernote. 1Star for now. Maybe future iterations will improve...

This is a great app that let's you log your clinical progression as well as keep up to date with key ethical and clinical hot topics. Would definitely recommend it.

Along with many other people's comments - I think you need to rethink the security aspects of not running on any rooted device based on the number of comments here.

App won't even run because phone is rooted. #Fail

No more dogeared certificates! Store all your cpd and reflect as and when you can, in the sane way you keep a logbook.

Unfortunately I require root access, and for some unknown reason the app is restricted not to work with root. Utterly useless to me and many others now.

Does not support rooted devices. This makes it useless for me

Dav. H. Aug 8, 2015

I like the app! Cross platform and a really comprehensive approach. I don't understand why they've restricted root users from using it?
