Gnaural for Android

Gnaural is a computer-based audio synthesizer capable of generating binaural beats, isochronic tones, pink noise, and many varieties of simulated nature sounds (including rain, waterfall, ocean waves, babbling brook, and wind). Gnaural is intended to be an aural aid to meditation and relaxation. Long available for Mac, Windows, and Linux, Gnaural allows you to use your computer to create, edit, and play your own "presets"
- which are editable meditation sessions coded in to XML text files.
Gnaural for Android is able to play Gnaural presets that you copy to your device, but can't edit them beyond the ability to turn on/off individual voices, specify number of "loops" (times to repeat the preset), and manually move forward-and-backward through the schedule. However, Gnaural presets, being simple text files written in Gnaural's XML language, can be edited by hand with any text editor and then opened by Gnaural for Android. The only issue you might run in to is that if your preset uses external audio files
- in which case Gnaural for Android can only play external CD-quality WAV audio files, not the many formats open-able by the full computer-based Gnaural (such as FLAC and OGG). This should not be a real limitation, as any audio format can easily be converted to WAV using readily available software like Audacity.

For people not interested in playing external Gnaural presets, Gnaural for Android also comes with 14 built-in presets, designed to explore a range of mental states with binaural beats and isochronic tones, as well as providing a range of soothing background sounds (like water or wind) that can be played continuously to help one relax or sleep.

Unlike most audio players, Gnaural for Android is a true sound synthesizer, creating and mixing CD quality sound on-the-fly from user-programmable instructions without relying on any sound files. Generating live synthesized sound requires a lot of processing power. Most cellphones less than 2 years old should have enough horsepower to run basic presets. If you do experience stuttering, such as when processing complex multi-voiced presets, there are options to lower the processing load by either lowering the sample rate (under Preferences), or by turning off extra voices. It is strongly recommended that you use and get-to-know the free version of Gnaural well first before deciding to pay to support this version. I really like this app. Simple, with enough variety to.......whoa...I nodded off there. Anyway, the user can turn it on out of the box, or tweak each setting to their own tastes. Seriously, don't drive while listening 😑

The best binaural beats player for Android. No ads. Note: You cannot edit or create Gnaural XML files directly on the Android version of Gnaural, but files produced on Windows/Mac/Linux Gnaural versions can be imported and used. The provided presets are very effective in my experience. Still works on Android 11 despite not having been updated in many years.

this is my favorite binaural beats app. i use the power nap mode all the time. it blocks out all other sounds when I'm traveling. i wish i could make custom tones in the app but there is a lot of variety built in.

this app is not movable to sd card. this is very big problem. Even if size of this app is very small, some phones have a few memory. So, we can not install if we do not remove some apps. We order developers to develope apps movable to sd card. for example teamviewer, winrar, sincan bel, etc are movable to sd card.

By far the app with the best customization I could find. There is no editor but the flexibility compensates.

I'm SO surprised that there are no reviews for this app. It's incredible. Fantastic for relaxation, meditation and concentration. I use it all the time for all three. Thanks for making it available.

If you use Gnaural on the pc, this is something different, but still very interesting and easy to use.

Cycles are too short, and there is no obvious way to edit time.

I've been a long time user of gnaural on desktop and when i first got an android phone i assumed gnaural would be a perfect fit. After a flip flop to ios and back to android with a few alternative solutions, I am so happy to have found it's an android app now. It works exactly as I'd hoped. Thank you!

Nice program. No GUI for creating custom schedules on the droid app as on the PC version, but if you have text editor and can figure out XML, you can write them on your mobile device.

I've just started with this app. There are a few glitches to be aware of. I had to disable auto screen rotation on my devices, since the app seems to reset if you change orientation.

I've been using Gnaural for years on Linux it's a fantastic program, and now on Android, excellent! This is a great program I definitely recommend it.

It takes some repetition to reach more powerful effects like any other sort of meditative practice. The 'Tibetan bowls' is my favorite program.

Thank you developer my life is much better now that I can make my own binaural beats and use them on my phone.

No other binaural beats app can compare to the customizability and functionality of this app.

Are these the real frequencies and not some alternate metaphorical waves? I mean u could tune up some radio or tv with these if there is a system, right? Best regards

Still awesome and still the very best!

A. G. u. Sep 27, 2015

The voices cant be custimized and it needs mechanism to get presets without finding a folder on your device to put them in so they can be easily found

Should the author port the more advanced features Gnaural offers on other platforms, I'd donate the price of *2* cups of coffee and rate Gnaural 10 stars.

A fair priced generator that does what it says. No snap, crackle, or pop. Only issue I have found is that, when creating .gnaural files (in the Ubuntu Gnaural editor) and including sound (an .ogg for example), when I copy them to Android, the sound doesn't play.

Tru. Jul 31, 2013

Since update my phone freezes on certain presets even on the lowest sample rate.
