GNURoot RuneScape Installer

Setup and play Oldschool RuneScape® on your Android device:
How to use this:1) Install GNURoot Debian from the Play Store.2) Inside GNURoot Debian click "Install/Reinstall"
- this installs a working Debian rootfs on your system.3) Inside GNURoot Debian click "Install X Support"
- this installs the basics to be able to run graphical applications.4) Inside GNURoot Runescape Installer click "Install/Update"
- this installs the linux runescape client and required packages.5) (optional) Inside GNURoot Runescape Installer click "Signup for Runescape" to create a free or paid account if you don't already have one.6) Inside GNURoot Runescape Installer click "Launch Runescape"If you leave the app and want to go back to your Runescape game which was already launched, click "Reconnect to previously launched game".

Note this will take up a lot of space on internal storage. You are installing a working Debian install and then installing this game on top of that. Very powerful, but takes up a lot of space.

I recommend using the Hacker's Keyboard.

Should be able to make steps 2) through 4) happen automatically in the future.

This is fully open source and the code can be found here: https://github.com/corbinlc/GNURootRSInstallerAny help is appreciated.

RuneScape® is a registered trademark of Jagex Studio and the game is owned by them. This has been created independently and not in cooperation with them. This does not modify the game at all, but simply allows you to install and run it.

My GNURoot Debian and related work is, in part, sponsored by Teradyne Inc.

Known issues:1) Sound does not work.2) Installation can be simplified.3) Doesn't yet support installing to the sdcard.

Complete waste of time and space. OSRS is already going to be released on mobile at the end of this month, just have patience. The official OSRS mobile runs much smoother and is overall 100% better than this trash.

Glad to have found this before mobile was released sorry to say it hasnt aged well...

Better off to download the old school RuneScape that has been officially released

This was the way to play OSRS before the official app. RIP

I love me some old school runescape, but currently this app is too laggy to play effectively. If you somehow fix the lag and get up to around 15fps then it would be amazing, hell I would pay for it. Anyways, great job on making this work on andriod, it just needs some optimizing and it will be something unique and amazing.

Very easy setup this is fun to mes around with but gets boring fast cuz it's simply unplayable. To me this looks like an unfinished project which is a shame because this could easily be the best app I have ever came across if only it would run somewhat smoother. I really hope the lag issue gets fixed. I'd gladly pay for the app if it was.

Everything works. Controls are semi clunky but somewhat manageable. You just can't play it without having to endure the immense amount of time you waste from miss clicking and/or maneuvering inefficiently because of the super low fps. No exaggeration it's around 5 fps. I have the new Moto phone too so specs aren't an issue. 5 star if no lag

Fra. S. Dec 12, 2016

Set up wasn't too bad, extremely laggy though, only 5 fps, if that. Not sure if that issue stems from the app itself or if I have set up something incorrectly. This is all on a Galaxy Edge 7, so hardware specs shouldn't be an issue.

Not only is this slow. Its almost impossible to use. I have a galaxy s7 and im getting like 1 fps. I can hardly move my camera or navigate bank it took me around an hour to get to the fishing guild half of which was spent failing to figure out how to right click to fish shark. This is cool in theory but falls short in execution.

Updated review for my new phone: This is a great way to get OSRS running on a x86 device(ASUS Zenfone 2) rather quickly, however, my only 3 issues right now is I cannot seem to map mouse buttons to my volume buttons, the screen is super wonky when trying to play(rather than automatically stretching to fill the screen like in Xserver you have to adjust it yourself), and it doesn't save your preferences. I, unfortunately don't know anything about running a Linux system, but I'd really like to be able to export the "screen"(so to speak) to Xserver which I am familiar with from the "Oldschool running natively on Android" reddit post where I learned of GNUROOT.

There were many problems, 1. Yes I know everyone is saying its slow and i understand that it will be next to impossible to run smoothly but im sure you could do something that would make it reach 10 maybe 15 fps because at the moment i reach a height of like 2 fps. 2. The controls work %50 of the time, the arrow keys are unresponsive and so is the clicking. 3. The graphics are full potato. Like i dont even think you can get your graphics this bad on pc if you tried. 4. Crashes whenever you go to make a new account. 5. The game crashes whenever you go to home screen or change app which made it impossible for me to use my current account due to it having the authenticator attached. I love the idea but horrible execution.

It does work. However, as others have stated, it's currently too slow for any real usage. A good start though. This version of RS is graphically inferior to what my laptop circa 2009 could handle! My current phone is at least twice the power, so with some tweaking, modern android emulators might work.

Absolutely wonderful, the lag is painful i installed a few months ago and it was less difficult to just get oit my old laptop but with less time on my hands i use this to grind. Hope dev is still working on the lag issue coz its 100% worth a download

Dre. C. Jul 20, 2017

I'm amazed that this even managed to boot but the frame rate makes it pretty much unusable. I thought you could at least use it to grind mats but even that is pretty difficult. At this point, with he official mobile version coming out later this year, I think I'll just wait for that.

If something could be done about the fps issue this app would be perfect. I have a 4G high-end phone and it still runs slow, I'll actually pay for it to work perfectly so whoever made this you can have that in mind

Mar. C. Aug 4, 2017

It works for flipping items. For anything else this is too laggy, you shouldn't expect much more from an emulator on a phone. I am just slightly disappointed that my OnePlus 3 isn't good enough. Still great work!!

Ala. l. Dec 21, 2016

It was working now it jumps straight to the desktop screen and then tells me it can't load

Mic. S. Oct 2, 2017

The idea is amazing, but this app just can't pull it off. Took forever to load up and then was super laggy. Would definitely give 5 stars if they gave it a better interface and removed the insane lag.

Aar. P. Mar 2, 2018

APP works as advertised! NOT SLOW IF YOU HAVE A GOOD PHONE. For example I have the note 8 and I have no issues, gave 4 stars because of the layout and the fact the play area does not stay in a fixed position. Additionally the inital launch is lengthy, and I have troubles properly closing the application to resume normal function.

Just did not work.. lots of codes came up after download reboot it and it just failed so idk lmao week

Mar. L. Jan 24, 2017

Well, it worked and it blew my mind. Ofc my phone couldnt handle it, and lagged as hell, but its just a proof, that with some work, everything is possible. Thanks developer.

zac. r. Jan 1, 2018

Not worth the time and effort to get it to even start. Let alone the insane lag. And the absolute sketchyness of throwing your name and pass out there. Why not just wait for the mobile version to come out soon.

non. n. Dec 26, 2016

Flat out doesn't work. Closes immediately after launching saying terminal running Windows one.

Cha. G. Dec 5, 2017

It lags, controls are touchy but I can't complain bc it's free and possible. Thank you so much! If there is a way to improve frame rate would love to know but happy that I can skill on the go.

Leo. B. Dec 9, 2016

It would be great if it was rs3 if I know how I would do it lol but it works well on old school but that's not as fun as rs3 plz update

Cla. Z. May 21, 2017

It definitely worked fine, but the lag was unbearable. Looks like 1fps which made even woodcutting tedious.

Chr. Q. Mar 20, 2017

Error occurred running script. can't copy log or screenshot to send it to you. ZTE quest N817

Tav. B. Jan 3, 2017

Love the app haven't been able to play due to real world complications, (Laptop got fried) but now I can but is there any chance of getting it to the point where they lag is bareable enough to do some effeicint playing takes me like 10 mins to get items out of bank due to slow server. And also how do you change the keys to work with the buttons on your phone. Ex. Making the volume button to change camera Angle
