Good for playing some solo Go against a CPU. Lowest level will still provide a challenge for a beginner like myself but it's certainly not insurmountable. Could use an explanation of what having Chinese rules turned on means though, had to google it.

It used to be ads were shown after end of each game, before starting a new one, which was acceptable. Now the policy changed and I got an ad when clicking new game right after opening the app. I don't like this and it feels scummy. I will not be using this app anymore.

Love the game.... But there is an ad for other games every time I try to play that takes more time than the game itself. Frustrating and makes it less likely I'll play this game.

Since I am trying to learn I placed a single player against a computer and I give myself a handicap of five or six what I would love to see is since I asked for a tip or whatever from the computer and then usually do that suggested move I would love it if it could explain why it placed the piece where it did since I first try to anticipate the best placement before I ask for the clue.

I'm trying to learn Go and this app is good. The Help menu where to move is not always on. You have to click twice to get help hints every single time, which is too much! That is the only negative comment.

Would have given full stars but everytime I play a game ads come on after which there is no way to get rid of them. Just waited 10 mins for last ad and still can't continue game.

I love this game. I can play ofline with bots. All of them is hard to win but you can get unlimite help. Thanks for this game.

The CPU always plays adjacent to the player, which makes it too easy to trick towards bad moves while i am given with good moves. Still, each level requires the player to master a new technique before advancing. UI is well done. I play this every day. I wish it could be versus over network instead of limited to same device. one more thing. PLEASE, raise the font size for the score! the negative sign is, what, 7 pixels? maybe 5 pixels? seriously, who's idea was that? you have PLENTY of space!

Hard to get a hang of it, but super fun thinking-excercise!

So far, this has been a great app for beginner practice. After all, the best way to learn is to play. That being said, I wish there was a way to play with others, even on the same wi-fi network, without having to pass the device back and forth. Also, the drag to place is a bit awkward and always seems to be miscalibrated on space up. Update: I discovered the setting for play offset literally minutes after placing this review. Thanks for the developer's response!

Simple and robust. A challenging AI with many different levels. I like simple apps - not many bells and whistles, but if I wanna play Go then this is the best place to do so. Has ads but they are relatively infrequent and dont interuppt gameplay at all. Only downside is that the 'how to' page is just a page of text - not the best way to teach.

Overall, I love the app. GO is a lot of fun, and this app has taught me how to play (i only kinda understood before). The one thing that bothers me is that when playing against the computer, the computer's stone flashes on the screen, too show where the stone is placed. the animation takes 1-2 seconds, and after playing a while, it's annoying to wait for the computer to make a move while the stone flashes on screen.

Fun game. I have been trying to get into go, and this app made it accessible for me. The Ai is difficult but not unfair, and the territory mechanic makes it easier to visualize what you are doing, and what your actions cause. Fun experience overall. A bit of an issue however, where the piece is just above where you are trying to place it. Not intuitive at first but doesn't take away from the experience. Makes it easier to see where you are placing it, so it works out in the end

The ads are not excessive, the territory count is amazing, even worth playing 2 player by yourself, and it was great to play with my wife when it would have been the blind leading the blind. Cherry on top is being able to rewind a move and try variations, seeing how territory prediction changes. It might not be perfect, particularly for players who have an idea what they're doing but it worked great for us!

A good game but very limited. A lot of potential in the app but the developer has a clear goal. I've played a few different games now from this developer and they all seem to be very similar the ads in the game are not bad at all. Only local multiplayer. Nothing online. The pace of the opponent seems to be slow and the stone don't always appear where they're supposed to when you place them. The app also Boggs down my phone and laggs for several seconds at a time. This can be very frustrating.

I find this app to be uninviting to people wanting to learn Go. Rather than a tutorial, there are paragraphs listed in the "How to Play" portion of the main menu that tell the reader how to place a piece and some gameplay tips, leading to a button at the bottom of the page that guides you to an actual set of rules, which are also paragraphs long, that you must memorize in order to understand anything about the gameplay. So far, I have read the majority of the rules and played a few games on difficulty level 1, 1 being the easiest level of difficulty, and still have not been able to defeat the AI opponent. I am not saying this is a bad application of Go, I am merely disappointed by the creator's decisions.

I'm am a TOTAL beginner. The "out the box" settings are too much of a challenge for me. The app could do with a tutorial mode starting with handicaps to white. And a walk thru session with suggested moves for a total beginner I think. However thanks to the wonders of YouTube I found this information :) I've added some handicaps and learnt the objectives. And this app is now perfect for learning to play and pick up the game... I'm starting to beat it!!

I'm a very amateur go player so my rating is not worth much. however the graphics are excellent and the moves of my opponent happen quickly and seem to be well placed. having given myself a large handicap advantage helps me win, but when i reduce my advantage my opponent is quick to take advantage. a one button touch always shows who is winning and losing, and it is worth repeating to say the graphics are excellent. i should update this rating after six months.

It's the best Go app you can find in the store and probably on mobile devices, that's undeniable. However, compared to the other products from AI Factory Limited, the app lacks customization, play notation and the ability to save your games. I think it is possible. It would be a dream if they added an online mode. It seems that I complain, but I really liked it and would recommend it, I am only comparing it with the other games of the developer. Anyway, it's a terrific game engine.

Fantastic app for playing Go against a range of skill levels. Undo/redo functionality is a great learning tool for playing out scenarios multiple times, or for reviewing the game after. It took me a year to decide to buy the paid version, which was very worth it. Additional functionality I would appreciate: - Some cosmetic options (e.g. dark mode) - Better undo/redo navigation: button to move, say, 10 moves forward/backward - Saved game files for later review in-app or elsewhere

Editing my previous review: good starter for Go, but you can't really play with 19x19 boards in the free version. It gives you a certain number of turns, but that isn't enough to realistically have a game, at least as a beginner. It's still good Go for free, so if you want to play Go do pick it up - provided you only want to play on smaller boards. And denying photo media permission still doesn't cause any problems, thankfully.

Love this game. Forget every other strategy game. Play the original and hardest to master.

Ske. J. R. Apr 19, 2019

The largest set is behind a paywall, but if you not familiar with go the smaller 2 are what your ganna want to play anyway. Controls are simple, for those complaining they really didnt try very much. Touch anywhere and drag your finger to where you want to place your piece. This doesn't really teach you how to play, but most apps dont. I learned from reading the rules online after a relative bought an actual go set and use this app to practice.

Okay go app. The computer levels are nowhere near as good as they claim to be. I am a 20 kyu player but I can easily defeat the 7 kyu computer level. Also, the territory predictions are not accurate and do not even seem to take into account whose turn it is. The scoring algorithms are not completely accurate and in some cases fail to detect pieces living in seki, instead marking them as prisoners.

As a beginner player this is the perfect tool for me to grasp the basics and develop my skills. A quick game or two on my lunch break is a fantastic way to pass the time. Game options are highly customizable to tweak the experience to suit the needs of any level player. Loving this game!

Luc. R. Jun 14, 2020

Liking it so far, and I think the ads are relatively unobtrusive given it's a free game. I can't judge how accurate the AI levels are, but I have been learning new techniques with each level I've climbed. I find it to be a pretty great app for someone who's past learning the basics but still quite a beginner.

Used to be 5 star until they added full-screen, unskipable, minutes-long ads

Abh. B. Dec 28, 2021

I should say that it really helped me a lot with my "Go" skills as a beginner. I have just started learning Go and its the best helper i can get to practice and improve my skills. The interface is quite easy to understand and good. Also the AI is also well programmed. Good Job Developers.

the rules are not explained clearly enough, and I found it was confusing at time while playing, what I could or could not do, and why some moves seemed to be ok sometimes ir not other times. I could not find a "help" that would be easily accessible to demonstrate or illustrate various moves or clarify why or how to strategically plan your games. It became rather frustrating so I stopped playing with this app.
