Google Allo

Overall a good chat app. It's a bit complicated the way you hace to access emoticons and other media. I'd hope for better integration with the Google keyboard. The Google assistant integration is useful once in a while, but we're not ready to take full advantage of it. I only used it because my brother and I were curious, no one else on my contact list is using it, which makes it more difficult to explore and recommend. For foreign countries, the way you had to add contact numbers is too complex.

I really like the app, I like that you can send all file and media types. I really really like that everything is sent in its original quality and not compressed. So many things make me want to keep using this app. I just wish messages were encrypted by default. I also wish more people used the app or that SMS was baked in so I don't have to use two separate apps for messaging. Overall it's a solid messaging app, there's just a ton of competition and with the focus on security the fact that messages are not encrypted by default is unacceptable in my opinion.

My friends and I have been using this app for years and it has allowed our group to stay connected over the years. To say we are disappointed to have to be switching messaging platforms would be an understatement. We hope google produces a messaging app with a lot of the great features (ie. small/large text) that we may be able to switch to in the future.

Of all of the messenging apps I've used, Allo is by far the most wonderful. The user interface is simple and aesthetically pleasing, you can change the group name, photo, and backgrounds, and customize so much more. My favorite feature is the ability to search a HUGE selection of gifs and send what you like. The variety of gifs is unmatched to any other app I've used. A+ across the board, Google Allo. You are the absolute best.

Love that you can send short gifs of yourself. Has all other functionality you would need in a messaging app. There is a bug (and have been for quite a while now): search functionality doesn't work at all. My guess is because the messaging history is too long with certain contacts and it just cannot handle it.

This app has actually become an integral part of my life. Allo, above any other social media or messaging tool allows me and my loved ones to communicate an incredible array of intricate and specific emotions, in clever, intuitive ways. I use virtually all of its available features, whose variance and nuance allows and encourages me to transcend the conventional limitations of expression in the digital medium and say something funny, meaningful and real. I love this app and I don't know how I am going to replace it.

I found out about this app about a month before it was set to be discontinued which is quite a pity considering how fun and easy it was to use. I especially enjoyed the fact that I could select how large or small I wanted words to be in a convo without having to go into settings and change font size (or however else we would normally do it). The presence of Google assistance in the chats and the fact that you could delete messages without the person on the other end knowing were also nice.

One of the best smart messaging apps out there. I use it on a daily basis with family and friends and it's seamless. I also love that you're Duo app is directly connected if you want to video chat with the person right away. The stickers, emojis and gifs are a staple in every conversation and its really easy to use and apply. Absolutely love this app.

This is the best messaging App I've used, hands down. Will be sad to see it go. I hope they move the Google assistant features over to Android Messages soon. If any of the Allo or Messages team is reading this, I think the same feature could easily be added if you did the Assistant interaction local on the device and then had the option to share the Assistant's answers to the other party via SMS or MMS prefaced with a "USER NAME: Question Google Assistant: Answer." Almost like a transcript. The answer could include web links if it is referring to a website or restaurant as an example. Anyways, I doubt that will be read, but I truly enjoyed Google Allo and I hope the team realizes they did something right and revives many of Allo's features in Messages.

Allo's features are packed in an interface that's very intuitive. The ability to send voice messages that are auto transcribed, and gifs, and draw in photos, and the very useful message read receipts are my top reasons i like allo so much. i havent met anyone yet who didnt imediately understand how to get to the various features and types without nreding to look it up I allo with anyone who i know has it because its so much better than regular texts.

Google Allo used to be a solid performer. But lately I've discovered that I can readily receive messages but I can't respond. All my messages get "stuck"'after sending and never reach a "delivered" status. To be clear, the Google servers acknowledge receipt of my message but never deliver it to the recipient. Google Pixel 3 XL user here. I've force stopped the app, cleared the cache, uninstalled and reinstalled. This behaviour is consistent.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Lost sight of the exactly what separated google from other search engines especially, yahoo, who saw the blanks between words as space that could fit another ad or column. This allo nonsense is just another reminder that google aren't serious about functionality any more, this app will likely be another fad going the way of Google plus. Bring it back to its roots: keep the UI simple, full compatibilty across all media's eg, gifs, mp4, webm and also devices. Cheers

I can give it a better rating. But since a while back that I recieved an update for this app. I havent been able to like messages other contacts send me. I was able to at the beginning of using this app but after a few updates it stopped. And I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S8. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app but nothing changes. It frustrates me cuz my other contacts are able and I can't please help me.

Lost faith in google... This app had been absolutely perfect. my wife uses an iphone and she and i exclusively use this app to communicate along with duo. There is simply no other reliable way to send messages to each other cross platform and not have one of us annoyed by the other app. Why would yiu get rid of this app without taking every single feature and putting it into messages before ending support. Wifi text is a must for us in the hospital, and no we dont want to go back to hangouts.

This is by far the most delightful and engaging experience I've ever had using an instant messenger on Android PERIOD! After switching to my pixel phone from an iPhone I missed using iMessage and the animations and all different things that you can play around there as I had to use WhatsApp. Tried telegram, Skype, we chat but then I gave Google Allo a try and it just blasted me with how Google Assistant is smart to get results say for a restaurant if you're planning to go somewhere with friends or family and the different colors animations and effects that you get compared to WhatsApp and the rest is just crazy. You can ask it for a meme or a photo and gets you that within the chat so you don't have to add an extra step for that. This is smart and cool. Totally love this**

Lots of fun with groups and easy to use. Plenty of functionality to enjoy! Just be sure to keep up with your images folder in your gallery... It's the easiest way to reduce the memory footprint of your conversations without actually deleting them. Very clever idea.

Really upset that features are being removed without an update and/or a direct replacement. Circle GIF and video feature has been removed. I use these daily. If you change my messaging app one more time.... Once this is fully sunset I will not likely use Google messaging apps. Thanks for the memories.

I love the Allo app. Why Google would shut this down for its CRAPPY Messages app is completely beyond me. I can receive messages in Allo in places where Google's Messaging app does not work. It's by far the most head scratching decision Google has made thus far. I hate Google's Messages app. it has a 1/4 of the functions of Allo and does not work 40% of the time. Messages in Google's Messaging app sometimes work or either come late, next day, or not at all. I never had that problem with Allo.

I absolutely love this app, but it needs to be the default messaging app on Android. Also, when sending messages to non Allo users, it needs to send through your REAL SMS number. Anyways, if you can get all of your friends on it, go ahead, get it! If not, don't even bother.

I would really like to see Google amalgamate the features of Messages, Hangouts and Allo. I believe Allo is a strong app with many features, but it needs to be integrated on all Android devices and include SMS. This way we'll have it and we would no longer need to use Messages or Hangouts. Google, please streamline your messaging apps! Thanks.

This is my favorite messaging app. There's font sizes, there were selfie gifs, stickers, search function within chat, chat games, and solitaire. It tried doing a lot of things and did all of them well. It is truly a shame that Allo is shutting down, since no other messaging app can compare in the slightest. I wish with all my heart Google would leave Allo running.

Shame it can't send text messages. This honestly is the smoothest, best looking chat app I've used and I love the Google assistant integration. But requiring other people to have the client is too big of a barrier to entry without bringing something massive to the table. There's so much potential.

this is absolutely my fav way to message. i am gonna be so heartbroken when it gets torn asunder! 😢😵😰 i love the stickers (i hope my dl'd personal stickers stick around-pun intended), backgrounds (pizza, y'all!), changing sizes of the emojis and text, taking mini vids to send, writing on pics before sending in the app. worked the best in an area without reception and in wifi - pics still sent easily, unlike msgr. i wish they'd just let it stay open, even without support. guess i won't txt now

Most fun and expressive messaging app I've ever used. I love the ability to change the font size, the ability to like messages, the chat themes, the built in GIF search, the Google Assistant... Occasionally had some minor glitches, but great overall. Wish it wasn't being shut down.

Too bad for a sunset date! I recently discovered Allo and its flexible, to phone, computer, tablet ect to take chats with you from device to device. Sharing is quick and full quality compatible. Every Android should have Allo as a baseline Messaging/communication app. Works great with Duo, voice or video. Inbedded Google powered keyboard and emojis/gifs and Google assistant
