Overrides any preferences on NVidia Shield TV and loads ads on home screen. Disabling updates and removal is the only solution so far.
Seems to be installed on my new Shield TV, but doesn't appear to actually do anything (doesn't even show in my apps & doesn't start from Google Assistant). Been searching for a web browser I can use on it for hours (first attempt was Firefox, but can't find that in the Google Play apps on the device), assumed this would be a web browser, but doesn't seem to open as a stand alone app, so giving a minimal rating until I see that the app actually has some use...
INSTALLED IT BUT DID NOT FIND IT ON MY SONY ANDROID 11 VU1 SCREEN.SINCE I UPDATED MY SONY TV SOFTWARE, NOTHING WORKS RIGHT.GUESS THAT IS WHAT I ASKED FOR BY UPDATING THE GOOGLE AND TV SOFTWARE AT THE SAME TIME.MY TV LOOKS TERRIBLE W/O THOSE LOVELY APPS I HAD.
After the last update, Google Assistant completely stopped working on both of my TVs and permanently says Google Assistant is unavailable. TVs are Skyworth 55SUC9300 and Skyworth 65SUC9300 Please can this be rectified as these are the newest models available so it makes no sense that an update breaks functionality.
In there greed to force as manty ads on us as possible I will be using a different launcher so I never see their ads again. If they had of kept them small and not using to top quarter of my screen I would probably would of been ok with them. YOUR LOSS!
I bought my Shield and Google TV to be able to stream the services I opt into. I didn't buy it to splash advertising on my TVs. Nor did I buy it to be reminded of which holidays and "months" Google decides I should know about. I own a calendar.
Very, very disappointed! It is listed as already installed on my Xiaomi Mi TV P1 (55 inches, Android 10), but there is not any option to launch it. I wrote an E-mail to Xiaomi and still waiting for their answer.
Took a perfectly reasonable app and used it as yet another vector to push ads in my face on a device I paid a fair amount of money for. Stop this behavior and fix your overstep, or lose many, many customers.
Latest update (2021) ruined my ShieldTV by shoving ads at me for services that I don't even have installed. I'd moved from a FireTV to the Shield precisely to avoid this but that didn't work out.
Since the last update the voice command on Google Home Speaker to play youtube on android TV (Sony Bravia) returns an error. This feature used to work before that.
I don't why this app does not compatible with Samsung S20FE

Mi TV 4 user here: voice commands take FOREVER to load. This is a slow, sluggish, poorly developed app,
ADS in the Android TV homescreen. Google, please remove the ads or make them optional.
I payed FULL PRICE for my NVidia Shield, and have ZERO TOLERANCE for ANY kind of ADS on a premium for device like this.

Extremely slow and inconsistent on Android TV
Google Assistant on Android TV is a total disgrace. It's so inconsistent you never know if a command is going to work or not. Functionality gap is so great you end up with stupid YouTube recommendations most of the time anyway. It's a disaster.
Latest version causing huge lag on my Sony XE9005. Confirmed by uninstalling. While it is installed the action menu and pictures settings take a long time to appear. 3.0 works fine. Please fix. Latest firmware on my TV v6.2858. Factory reset also performed.
Seriously Google is this app ever going to update for parody with the phone version? It's ridiculously out of date like your YouTube app, and still no Google Assistant.
Today I got nothing on my Google Beta. Just telling me: "A New version is available. " When I tried to upodate, the update failed. Still the same. No info on wetaher, stocks and news.... . So I follow the instruction on Goolge website. I have enough space in SD cvard and memory. I set the Flight mode on and OFF. I can now download the update bhowever the resulting update is: " A new version is avalble" No weathner info, no news and No stock update. I am usiung Andorid 6 on Samsung Note 4. I have reboot my phone, I have stop Google app several times but all these effrots are useless. Please return my Google. Please also stop naming your apps and devices randomly and confusingly.... You name this Apop as Goolge, sometimes Google Now. But no Google Now is App store. It is starnge to name yopur app store as Google Play. Then you name Google Home for your Speaker and its app (which is also for Crhomecast and Google TV Box).
Can't even do basic stuff like reminders. Google... Why are all the wear/tv/auto and phone apps running different versions of google? Some commands only work on some stuff and not on others.. SORT IT OUT! Infuriating!
Nexus Player review: Voice search does not work at all on the Nexus Player on my device. It has not since 5.0. It is a convenient functionality, and sorely missed, especially on the TV. I have tried various fixes.
After last update my android TV's assistant stopped working normally with languages other than English. When I asked "what the weather is", instead of showing the weather, the assistant suggests watching a video from YouTube over the past year about the weather.(( and e.t.c. I had to roll back to the previous version there everything works as before ok.
