Google Cast Receiver

I've been having major issues with the latest version of this app. I use an Nvidia Shield TV, and I'd been unable to cast to the device in multiple apps. Youtube and HBO Go would both regularly fail to show content. The only fix I've found has been to uninstall the latest update for this app. Once I do that everything works great. Clearly the latest version has been hosed, and needs to be fixed.

the last update broke google home voice integration. Update: I have tried everything already, from rebooting, to resetting EVERYTHING, from my Google devices, to my network, routers, also tried a different internet provider, changing DNS to Google'. EVERYTHING! I can cast from my devices, but can't use voice to play or control content anymore. Last week I could.

It doesn't work on a TCL Android TV. If you clear all data and uninstall all updates on the app, it will then work for a single time. After that, it will just disappear out of every device's sight. This is just ridiculous. Most of us bought either an Android TV or an Android TV Box for this one feature, and it is not even working.

Hi Google Staff, the problem is in YOUR app. I tryed all the alternatives. During these test I discovered that the main problem is the last update v1.36.154871. If I uninstall the updates from my Android TV and keep the original version thats come with the TV, that is v1.33.133253, the app works fine and I can link and unlink my account, set backdrop, etc. After this I can update the app to the newest version and still works well. The main problem is the new version that can´t, for some reason, link or set the enviromental features for the backdrop, etc, when a user try AS FIRST TIME with this app version. Also in both versions can´t access to the experimental features like use custom albums that is available on main Chromecast prodcuts. Thanks!

Own a Sony Bravia XBR-900 Android TV, automatic updates on and overnight NOTHING works I even hard reset the whole system with all the issues and problems that means with the hope to get the out of the box version of Chromecast built-in (that was working flawlessly) nothing, I’m stuck with a not- working cast receiver. Can’t believe an update broke everything I liked and loved of my TV overnight, really, really disappointed at you guys. It was working fine. Please fix this!

On my Sony TV, the factory installed version (1.47.216070) I couldn't get many websites, most notably Netflix, to successfully cast from Chrome off a laptop. The dedicated app for said site would attempt to load (three pulsing red dots) and then fail, crashing back to the home screen. With this update, that's not even an option -- trying to cast those sites that previously failed now instead triggers Chromecast Mirroring for that tab...which also frequently fails. I don't understand why this experience is so much worse than with a dedicated Chromecast device.

Chromecast built-in is broken. App casting like YouTube and Netflix works because you can get around it by having the same accounts, but anything on the local network wont work. Philips 43" (43PFL5604/F7) casting doesn't work after uninstalling the updates/forcing an update/ rebooting/ or factory reset. I've spent 2 whole days trying to get it to work with nothing. Chromecast (2 hours in a text conversation and 1 hour in voice call) or Philips (1 hour in voice call and 2 hours on hold collectively) support doesn't even know what the issue is. It seems at Chromecast Built-in v1.30.109591, it stopped allowing me to stream 2052x1080. I noticed this when an online show I usually stream from my phone swapped their aspect ratio from 16:9 (1920x1080). It doesn't matter which device I try and stream from, my Android Phone, my W10 PC or my Debian laptop. My TV is a Sony X8000D (APAC version of X800D) running the latest available firmware. I've tried a system reset but as soon as Chromecast Built-in auto-updated to the latest version, playback of these videos is unable. The stock version of Chromecast built-in plays these videos back fine. Out of curiosity, i tested some 4K videos (H264 AAC) which do not work which is disappointing given that the TV supports 4K. Given that rolling back to a previous version works, I have to rate this 1 star. The only way for me to keep using Chromecast Built-in is by disable auto updates which is a massive nuisance.

I can not get my own photos from Google Photos to be played on my Sony Android TV via this Ambient mode. Does not work. I see many have this problem. What is the point of 65" Android TV screen, if you can not even get your own photos to backdrop? I might have anticipated few problems but never this. I also can not rename my TV via Home app. It says: "could not communicate with your Android TV." Get it together!

This is the worst Google product I have used. I bought my TV just for this feature, and it's entirely unusable. Videos play in slow motion, and end up going out of sync with audio. From reading through the reviews, it seems it is a common problem, not just something wrong with my TV. I tried opening the link that the support team had provided to others encountering the same problem. The page lists phone numbers to call. For the United States, the number is supposedly available "Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week". The response I received was "We are closed right now, please call during our normal business hours". I got in touch with the customer support team and carried out the many debugging steps that they suggested, with no luck. I am now hoping for some help from the manufacturer, even though it is not a problem specific to my manufacturer, based on other reviews to this app.

Working well enough in my Humax Aura UHD PVR. The only thing I wish it had alongside the other Chromecasts in my house was the ability to set the Ambient mode to stream photos from my albums. Such as shame that this is missing as I love looking at photos of my kids growing up etc when they spontaneously appear on the Chromecast ambient feed for my stand alone Chromecasts.

This built in Chromecast thing is complete and utter garbage. I have been trying to get mine set up for about 2 weeks now and it does NOT work at all. My google home app won't pick it up and it is up to date and all the permissions are granted...completely frustrated with it.

I have an android tv named nikai with android version 4.4.4.I am not able to cast my mobile youtube to my android tv. i have searched alot on this matter. coming to the conclusion i found we need google built in chromecast for it. Unfortunately the version of my tv do not support the chromecast app. There is no available version of chromecast on play store. i tried some version of chromecast from other sources, but they didnt work too. hence what i would like to request is to suggest/provide any other alternative for the problem. thank you

Complete trash... Pretty annoying that I bought this TV in part because of the built in Chromecast, but it works horribly. I have gigabit internet, get 450 mbps on Wifi, my router is 4 FT away from the TV and the video plays in slow motion... I have no problem streaming 4K from other apps or through my Xbox.

Since the last update (Nov. 2018) casting from apps like Hulu Live TV and YouTube TV on my Sony Bravia XBR-55X850D results in constant stutter making content unwatchable. Uninstalling the update and using original factory version fixed the problem. Please address in next update. Minimal viability seems pretty important for an app already lacking in most basic chromecast capabilities.

I have a sony X90H android tv. just got it. The only thing that isnt working is adding the tv to my home speaker group. A few things Using the current version 1.50.227001 The TV shows up in google home. i can cast moveis and music directly to the TV, just it would cast with the rest of the speakers in the home group as the tv doesnt show up in my speaker groups avaiable devices to add. I have deleted and readded the group. Same thing.

Google, Please bring feature parity to Ambient Mode (backdrop) on AndroidTV. I shouldn't have to pay $60 for a chromecast ultra just because I want to show my Google Photos on my TV. Also, it would be super cool if I could turn my TV on and off using google assistant. Installed this on an Android TV Rock64 device. This is supposed to be THE APP to have if you want to use a device as a cast receiver, but it never worked at all for me. Then I read the comments here and realized that Google broke this app as of 3/9/2019. Not certain why Google is so bent on preventing people from sharing local content easier, but this seems pretty absurd. I sincerely hope Google provides something in return besides disappointment.

Chromecast (3rd gen) CAN NOT stream live feeds reliably 5 feet from a Google Nest Wifi router! It keeps popping up with the on screen player controls, for a live stream that has no control, that effectively blacks out the bottom half of the screen for up to 10 seconds making the video useless. Because the device works off wifi, any packet loss and your stuck looking at the player controls indefinitely. The new Google Chromecast (3rd gen) and all Nest products have a wifi connectivity issue. I own many Google wifi devices, from the original Google thermostat and the new learning to the new Nest Yale lock and Nest wifi, and every single "Nest" product or 3rd gen Chromecast has to be reset at least twice a month to re-establish a wifi connection. The original google thermostat and original chromecast and every other wifi device has been flawless for months on end. Needless to say, I wasted a lot of money on this troublesome product line.

It is completely unstable. I have a Sony TV (2019) with built-in chrome-cast. My TV connected to router with LAN, but many-times I can't share my windows 10 desktop and when I can picture quality is very low. My old LG TV with miracast techlology works too much better.

"Could not communicate with your Android TV" Coming up when I try to disable letting other control what I cast on the google home app. When Ever I tell it to pause or next video etc on my google home speaker it sends the instruction to another chromecast in the household, No rhyme nor reason for this as both the TV and the Google home are assigned to the same room. The thing does cast don't get me wrong but it's not as smooth as the peripheral it's supposed to emulate.

I’m using built-in Chromecast on my Nvidia shield TV 2019. Barely any videos work correctly in full screen optimization. I have a second generation Chromecast and the same videos work perfectly in full screen optimization. It’s clearly an issue with the built-in Chromecast app. Would not recommend the built-in Chromecast.

Biult in doesnt work and from what ive read the issue is the latest update. I tried uninstalling updates on the tv app and was able to add my tv to a room on the home app but it was still having issues communicating. I can use some apps like youtube and spotify due to their built in features and control my tv volume with home app but please google fix this issue with your new update. I have tried deleting data and cache of both the tv built in app and google home on my phone still didnt work. I also rebooted my internet and tv.

Terrible. I’ve had to use third party apps in order to watch anything. It’s frustrating to know that I have $90 a Roku tv with the built in chromecast and it connected fine the first time but my $900 Sony Bravia tv won’t even show up on my google home as a device to cast to.

Cannot interact with my Nvidia Shield via Google Assistant or Home app. I tried resetting shield, deleting my home entirely from the Home app, re-installing the app, cleaning data & storage of Google and Home apps on the phone as well as Shield, but nothing worked. I can interact with my lights or all 4 of my google homes, but not the Nvidia Shield.

After the last update im I'm able to mirror my phone's screen on tv for only once after clearing this app's data, on the second connection the tv screen remains the same and won't update anymore, like a screen shot is viewing on tv.

All working nicely until latest update. Now Google Home is unable to interact with my Sony Bravia Android TV. Uninstalling updates to Chromecast Builtin App doesn't fix the issue. Judging by all comments here and on Sony support forums the problems seems to be server side at Google

"Sorry, I can't play Netflix on Android TV yet." Seriously, fix it. It used to work with the regular Chromecast. I gave it away when I got the tv with built in Chromecast.
