Google Text-to-speech

My other post disappeared. This app does not work! It is always in the download and will not update. The little arrow at the top of the screen will stay in download unless I cancel it. I'm disappointed with this because now I will be unable to use the voice access features. I would like for someone to fix this soon because it's been doing this for MONTHS!!!!

Same problem as others - it has been trying to download all day. Says it's waiting for a network connection. Its cancel button doesn't work. My wifi and 4G connections are good, and all my other apps are connected and working normally. Update April 8, 2022: Just tried the new version and it downloaded & installed with no problems. Increased my rating to three stars for now.

Doesn't work at all, would rate no stars if possible. After an update in early March, the ability to convert speech to text disappeared entirely. The button that all the online instructions say will allow me to dictate while the system generates text to match now only records my voice. In my messenger app, in my email, and in my notepad/ documents. This was once a service I relied on heavily, and I am furious that no one at google can be bothered to address the clearly broken program.

It will randomly take a while to initialize after I hit the microphone icon and a lot of times random words which I've no clue which words it's going to be will not be the proper word and will be somewhat similar words but ones you can easily distinguish when you hear them. I don't know when the initialize is going to be an issue again it, could be 5 minutes. And I wish when you said quote and/or end quote it would actually do the quotation marks!! Plz! This voice to text right now has worked.

This app has been ridiculously buggy for months now. First, the issue with constantly downloading. Now it's not displaying properly since my Galaxy S10+ upgraded to Android 12. The keyboard is half black and white in dark mode. (This doesn't happen with Samsung voice.) There are 2 Google voice options: voice and legacy. Only legacy displays correctly. Prediction is off with random, incorrect uppercase of words and it doesn't leave a space so emojis appear as emojis (eg., :) not 🙂). Please fix!

It used to be good. I use select to speak to read Chinese in Cantonese (Hong Kong). But recently, it reads in Mandarin when I use the function on different websites. When I go to check the languages in tts voice data, Chinese (China) and Chinese (Taiwan) tts data was downloaded and installed without my permission. I deleted the unwanted voice data and tried it again. Did the same thing. The datas were redownloaded and reinstalled. Again, without my permission and against my wishes. Google! Why?!

This service was never bulletproof, but with the latest updates, one can see that it's clearly broken. It will get words right at first, only to then cycoe through until it lands on a bizarre incorrect conclusion. It will randomly capitalize words that have no business being captiiazed in the English language. It will misinterrupt common words so absurdly that the end result is amusing to read. It has become exceptionally unreliable as of late, which is a shame because it used to work so well.

App started out working fine then got an update around February that enabled my pixel 5a to have the auto punctuate feature somewhere to that on the pixel 6 which I was exatatic about. A few weeks after receiving that update, it updated again and removed the feature reverting it back to its original state. Unsure as to why this happened, but it has made the experience of using speech to text far less enjoyable without the auto punctuate feature

For 3 days it kept showing waiting for network connection, whether on wifi or network data. I finally had to uninstall and then redo the update and finally it completed. And then 2 weeks later it started again for 4 days and then stopped so I thought yeah it finally worked until today it started again. Sent an email to the developers hopefully they'll fix this nightmare. We'll finally they managed to fix it

No Ukrainian speech recognition Despite app per se is not bad, I am desperately missing Ukrainian language. I do a lot of speech to text, and other languages do not recognise it correctly. Was trying to find list of supported languages, and Ukrainian is not there - not sure if I do something wrong, or if it is really missing. English and German work fine (though e.g. Otter recognises better)

The application needs to begin listening quicker when the microphone is pressed... So the transcription does not miss the first two or three words.. And the microphone itself needs to be larger so those of us who drive all the time don't have to squint at the phone, to tap in the right place before speaking.

I have been facing a problem reg. updation of Speech Services by Google. It's always shows an error message- while my phone is well connected to a network. try to cancel it, but that doesn't work. uninstall the app through Google Playstore. cleared the cache memory but in vain. Repeatedly the notification comes back. Kindly help.

An entire year later and the problems are still present... TTS skips single/two word paragraphs (eg: Solitude. No! Well, maybe. Five seconds...) Response time and speech rate syincing is also wonky. TTS by itself is of a different speech rate when Talkback is enabled. Some paragraphs start with the first syllable having this weird stereo/doubling effect which is very distracting.

It is unfortunate that since the change of the logo and the English version, I have been unable to record and send audible audio message on the Whatsup Application from my Device Nokia 5 Android 9 Model TA 1024. But I do receive clear Audio messages from other contacts. I have had a number of Updates downloaded and installed, yet the problem remains unresolved. Please use your good offices to resolve the anomaly.

This is horrible, it constantly repeats words, I also get error message and it wont-work. When it's kinda working it puts the wrong word in. I had the same Google speech service in my Galaxy Samsung S8 And it worked perfectly.. Now on my Galaxy Samsung S20 ultra it's terrible. I just tried text to speech in the sentence on this paragraph ended with terrible and I said horrible.

While the app is very useful, the data size is FAR too extremely big. You'd think professional programmers would know how to minimize the data storage requirement of a program that provides text to speech and other things, but apparently no. Please optimize for data capacity: not everyone has the latest smartphone or tablet. Some of use are even close to critical capacity, mere megabytes away from bricking their device.

I'm cautiously optimistic here, and hope calling attention to this doesn't jinx it, BUT... I finally decided to click "update" again after letting this sit unacknowledged for two months. So far, on three different devices, no further stuck "waiting for download" messages. It's been about nine days and so far so good. If this problem re-appears I'm just gonna go get a Microsoft Surface and be done with it. I hear Nokia still makes a Windows phone as well. It's a shame that's my next option.

Used to be able to pick up both English and mandarin (my secondary language) but stopped working after a recent update. Now only the default English is working and I can't add a secondary language. The setting button doesn't work either.

I wish it would work. I used this because the built in Samsung one does not work. Now this is doing the exact thing Samsung speech is doing. Which is giving me words I never said. Also, doesn't work without wifi, doesn't work on other apps and now likes to shut off by its onesies. Idk what to do about it, or what other app to use. Coolcool, literally doesn't even load anymore, even though I have it on my phone and have it on as usual. Can't uninstall...

Text to speech does not work for me. It only works sometimes in Facebook. But never in Tick Tock or Instagram. I've turned everything on possible to make it work I follow all the rules and instructions on information that other people have about turning it on. I have Google keyboard turned on I have speech-to-text Google still does not work. I have a A51 Samsung please help me find an answer I'm visually impaired and I need text to speech.

The only reason I didn't give this app five stars is because of the basic voice limitations I don't know if it's hardware I would guess so but it takes far too long to learn your voice and when you have variations of voice like when you're sad or angry or whatever it tends not to recognize you and things like that I just want more of what's there that's all

Whenever I use the speech to text I get a bubble at the bottom of my screen that stays there for an annoyingly long time. I have looked everywhere to adjust the time but can't find it. It just stays there blocking whatever is at the bottom. I'd think Google would have noticed this by now and fix it 😡

I wish I could give this a half star you updated the app from the previous version that did nothing but drain your battery by trying to update all the time. This one does nothing but try and download large documents, many of them that can't be opened or edited. Only deleted. I intend to do that with this app delete it.

"Infuriate your device with the dung of Google’s text-to-speech and speech-to-text technology" Seriously, the voice to text feature in my texting app is terrible...it rarely initializes and when it does I spend a minute deleted the errors and typing out what I wanted to say. Using a new Samsung Galaxy Z3 Flip

Had to delete after update. Would not allow the use of and upper/lower case change. also the left hand side of the QWERTY keyboard just wouldn't allow any letters to be typed. Deleted update (04/05/22) android 11. Nokia. And keyboard restored.

After developing laryngitis I was hoping to use the text to speech function to communicate. After all, I have a pixel phone, so why wouldn't googles own apps work on it? But I can't find it anywhere on my phone, despite the play store indicating that it has been downloaded. Tried uninstalling, but there's no 'reinstall' option, it just says 'update'

Google speech search is replaced by a different speech search (bars type/ Chinese language) and it cannot recognise my speech.. i google and tried many things in setting but still same and there is always a mic icon in green appears in notification bar which never exists even after boosting and closing all background apps . Please help

This app is still unreliable as hell. It's still often miss translates words or doesn't pick up the proper being at all and/or it'll just create its own. Still often tells me that it's initializing before I can speak. This app needs a major makeover because the problem is not with the phones. It's with the developer
