Grand River Transit
You can search for stops or routes by name or number, and display them on Google Maps, as well as quickly see when the next bus will arrive or browse the timetables. Allows you to create a list of favourite stops, making checking for the next bus just a couple of clicks away.
A design goal is not to require a data connection to operate, so the app does not calculate routes (Google Navigation uses the exact same data, so you should use that). Real time location updates do require a connection, but can be turned off. All schedule data is stored locally, so static timetable and route information is always available (but maps may not load). App is stored on your SD card if you allow it, and data is stored on the SD card if it's available.
May be sluggish on first use or after an upgrade, while the initial database is constructed. Total data size can be up to 30 megs. It's either that or chewing up your online data quota.
Data is provided in GTFS format at http://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/regionalgovernment/OpenDataHome.asp. Real time bus data is reverse engineered from http://realtimemap.grt.ca, so this could break at any time.

Updated review, used to be 4 stars. I am using this for almost a year now, but now (around Feb 10, 2016) it doesn't even start up. I am using Google maps now! Sad, because this was a Great App when it worked. I loved the app as it shows favourite stops, closest by stops, shows buses being on time, late, early, was relying on it. Still would prefer over Google maps. Please fix.
Newest update keeps crashing. Also, can no longer select specific routes or times to check the information (what stops it makes along the route), unless it's the very next bus.
Used to be great. But crashes every few seconds now.
Useful app, can be much better though.
All it says is I have to update the database ..then nothing happens .. bleah

Used to be really great but now the app crashes everytime i search a bus stop and go back to main screen.
Was working well until today. I went to check and all schedules were missing. I have restarted my phone, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, turned on real-time and turned it off again, and still there is no data.
Keeps telling me it needs to update and only comes up with an exit button. Unable to open or download the schedule database.....
New update for real time updates significantly slow down the app. Good but would be great if this can be improved.
One of the most useful apps on my phone. I use this every day. It does what I want and isn't bogged down by useless features.
Who ever made this application is a real genuine master apps maker. Once I set my favorite stops, it tells me the next bus for every stop as soon as I touch the app. No more fussing around with paper schedule that gets lost or calling the stops numbers. I give this app a perfect ten.
I started using this app over a year ago and it was great. Then it got better with not having to update the app for every new set of schedules that came out. The new schedules usually wouldn't be available until about a week or two after they came into effect, but that wasn't too much of an annoyance for me. The last set of schedules came into effect on June 23, 2014. It has been over a month and the schedule database has still not been updated. The worst part is that now the app is completely useless since it doesn't show the times based on the last schedule update. At least with doGRT, you can use the schedules even if they're outdated as long as no major changes have been made to the stops and routes you want to use. I once recommended this app, but now I can't. I would say TripGo is your best option.
Except the other day it stopped workin, now anytime I look up any bus stop it says "no more busses for today" but then I call the bus number and its coming in 20 minutes. PLEASE FIX I USE THIS APP A LOT!!!
The database stopped being updated months ago. It was a great app but no longer has data.
Before the update this app was perfect. I used it all the time. After this new update, it says no buses available on all the schedules. Please fix this. This app was perfect before the update.
Perfect for finding bus schedules and routes. Developer is helpful and responsive. UI is a little awkward, but works.

This app has been great up until the last database update. Now every stop says "no more buses today". Back to 5 stars when it's working again

the app depends too much on the user knowing the entire bus system...still has use though
Easy to use
This app seems like it is exactly what I am looking for with one exception....the routes & stops always say "No more buses today". This happens on both my acer 2 and my nexus 7 tablet.
Can you implement favourite stops re-ordering? Doesn't require much and very useful to have more frequent stops near the top.
At this point ill just use GMaps and the text service. Its great to see an app like this, but if it is painful to use, what's the point. Employ a software dev from UW that wants some experience, then well see how this app improves :-D
Very helpful! (In particular because it works off-line)
Ok when this app works I love it. It's the only one out of all the GRT apps that makes sense to me. But it's not working. All you do in it is check the bus routes nothing else. You can't add favorites or check a specific stop on any route.
