Written by GRE expertsThe entire GRE wordlist is selected and defined with usage examples by Magoosh’s expert tutors, led by Chris Lele. He has been teaching the GRE for more than 10 years, runs a popular vocabulary series on YouTube and he’s also written an eBook on vocabulary. He is unbeatable in Scrabble, or any other word game for that matter.

Review that really sticksAcademic research has found that memories are formed by repeated exposure to new information, so Magoosh’s flashcard app uses a spaced repetition system. Words you are learning will reappear frequently (occurring less frequently the better you know them) and words you already know won’t be repeated. The word list is also culled to only 1000 so that you don't waste time learning unimportant words.

The app is really good. No doubt about that. The words repeat and that helps you remember them. However this feature of word repetition also prevents the users from revising words that they actually want to. My suggestion to the developer team is to introduce the feature of word selection, so that users can themselves select words that they actually want to revise, rather than merely showing up words repeatedly that they are already familiar with. Thanks!

The app is great, its been really helpful as it has words that indeed show up in the test very often. However it has lost my progress 3 times already, last sunday I was almost done with all words, next day the app pinned all the words I already knew as new words. It always go back to a past state of progress that I was some months ago. Despite this issue, the app helps a lot. I recommend it.

The app has a straight forward user interface. I like it overall and will continue to use it. I find myself looking up some of the words in webster's dictionary to learn more about words that share the same root. It's easier for me to remember a word when I know other words that are related to it. So I wish that some of the definitions were more in-depth within the app. Including synonyms would be nice too.

Helpful little app of flashcards I scroll through instead of social media. Example sentences are also clearly written to stick out in your brain. I quite like the app and will recommend it to others. The only thing I have an issue with is that I wish there was a cumulative game/exercise for all words you have "mastered" other wise you can have the tendency to simply memorize that the one word you don't know means "this" and that hinder learning. But over all I really like the app.

I definitely recommend this app to anyone studying the GRE. Magoosh has painstakingly selected most tested words. we all know that English words can have multiple meaning which makes it hard for one to know which one to focus on, this has been taken care of. What more is that studying with the app will help you eliminate false mastery as you do not know the next word that will show up. you also get to keep learning or reviewing the ones you do not know until you have mastered it. I love this app particularly for providing contextual use of the words with instances that will actually help one to commit the words to memory. Magoosh also understood that test takers are always hard on themselves, so they throw in examples that will force that laugh out of your stern face. That said, i think one improvement which is , allowing users to go back and review words that they had difficulty learning after mastery, is highly needed. . For instance, i have mastered the first deck of 50words since last months, but l know there are words i want to look over again, but when i click on the deck, there's no way i could select those words that I want to see. Overall is a good app and 100% free

Pros: it's free, flashcards are divided into sets, and the pronunciation is provided. Cons: I cannot fathom how people can like the way flashcards are randomly shown. It makes me practice several times words that I know VERY well. My advice is to mark all the words as known and make flashcards of the ones you don't know or you'll waste time. I've also bought Kaplan's and Manhattan's flashcards. The words on this list are truly relevant for the GRE.

High-quality, useful app for prepping for the GRE Verbal section. One bug (as of Aug 2020): definitions/examples get cut off if they're too long. Also it would be nice if there was a list of all the words combined, or a way to manually select which words to review.

This is a great app for learning GRE words hassel free. With this I'm able to learn up to 50 words a day. There's this one feature missing from the app that can have huge impact on learning process. You can't bookmark and make your own word list, So when you're reviewing mastered words, you have to go through all of them which takes a long time for each deck.

Everything's good. just some suggestions to increase usability: 1. App should have a little pause before pronouncing, so the user can take the cellphone to his ear(from call speaker) also before the voice begins. 2. App should have the feature of showing the whole list of words from a deck once completed, so that we can find or revise something specific. 3. App should have a search option where we can search for any word and it opens its explanation and tells the deck that it belongs to.

The words with their respectful meaning are of great quality. The algorithm to train your mind and learn the words are also up to the mark. The only difficulty I experienced was when I try to get the pronunciation of a particular word it get's mute and this has happened to me a lot of times. I still don't knock how to make this right.

Brilliant app! I find it extremely helpful for my prep. My mother loves it too though she already has a very strong vocab. It still helps her stay in touch with words that are not used that often in everyday speech. A few additional suggestions that would make the app a complete package - 1. Synonyms with tags that can lead us to that word and definition if clicked on. 2. Mnemonic definitions to help remember the words. 3. One overall repository where frequent weak words can get stored. Thanks!!

This app was really great,as it helped me prep for the test on the go. I could prepare with it anywhere, anytime. It also was very rigorous as it made sure that the words that I had forgotten or understood wrongly were corrected and remembered. The flashcards are an excellent technique for remembering a lot of stuff easily. Hats off, Magoosh for an excellent app.

Very nice app, the three levels of vocabulary mastery are an effective way to learn new words, and the often humorous example sentences help you build connections to the words that make it easier ro remeber them. One major problem though: There is no way to see all words in a deck, making it unnecessarily hard to revisit a fully mastered deck.

I love it. But these is an issue. when someone practiced one set of 51 words, they can not be accessed individually. so please fix. and There should audio facility which will help too and strengthen the vocabulary improvement. because auditory learn is part of learning. Thank you Chris. you rock man. And thanks to all Magoosh team.

This is the kind of app i wanted to learn english words from. I wanted an app which have chunking of words in the form of some categories. In this app words are categorized in basic, medium and advanced level. So, while revising it would be easier for me to know that how much part i have completed and how far i have to go by looking at the chunks left to study. Thanks Magoosh

Love these flashcards! A small request though: for the new feature of fill in the blank, can you guys make the sentence different from the one given when learning the words? I study the definition along with the example used in a sentence and the fill in the blank seems to come from these examples. Hope it's not too much!

Tij. A. May 11, 2022

The app is OK, but the height of the card is less than the number of text lines. I can't see the whole example sentence for most words even though there is a lot of space at the bottom of the page. I would give a 5 star rating if you could sort it out

Yel. N. Mar 8, 2019

The app is great and the vocabulary included is quite useful. But the way each word described is not good, there should be a little more explanation for the words like an example or an image to remember perhaps and must have include synonyms for each word.Despite the above rest is good. The above changes might help remeber the words very easily.

Roh. S. Jul 28, 2021

App is great however I feel it lacks one feature : the app should allow me to touch on the number of cards I have masterred and number of cards under review and learning so I can quickly revise them, i know it works on spaced repition but since my exam is near I would like to just have a look at all words at once to confirm if I know them or not. It will save a lot of time

Sign up Error There is an error, after installing this app it gives an error when I try to create an account in order to save my web progress. I think overall performance is good.

Sud. S. May 14, 2022

This app works smoothly and really good for learning from the beginning, but I think the interface can be modified and the synonymous can also be chosen with more easy and simple words.

Ant. C. Oct 1, 2020

Excellent. It's just that the fill in the blank activity has blanks that follow an "a" or an "an", narrowing down the potential answers. Changing the indefinite article to "a(n)" should fix this—or only listing words that share the quality of starting with either a vowel or a consonant sound.

Aji. J. Oct 24, 2019

Wonderful learning experience till now. Though i feel that the included option of going backward for reviewing the flashcards would be nice. Otherwise, you will have to keep tapping till you find that card. Also its good to have a skip button for words that you already know. Thank you!

Best method to learn GRE words. I find the approach used in the app very effective and unlike the approach other apps use. The app categorizes the words to three, learning, reviewing, and mastered. I have tried learning the words on my own without the app but this is by far better. Cons: I wish there was a way to see the list of words after mastering them. That would make reviewing them a lot easier.

Bas. T. Apr 27, 2022

It doesn’t stay in sync with the website. Even if I tap the sync with website button under settings, it is still stuck in a past state.

Adi. M. Dec 20, 2018

Suggestion:Would be good if we were able to star/mark the words that we find difficult and view them later(in the form of a list/flashcard). The app should also have the facility to view all the words listwise(common, basic, etc); this would make revision of older lists much easier.

NEE. S. Jan 24, 2020

This app is really effective for learning words prevalent in gre. The only issue is, whenever I want to know the meaning of a particular word on my mind, I have to keep scrolling the flashcards. It would be great if all the words and their respective meanings are available in a list format.

Bra. S. Sep 16, 2018

Thanks to this and Barron's Verbal Workbook I have gotten a perfect Verbal Score on the GRE! Thank you! I found it most helpful to master every category completely and then at the end I created a new account so I could test myself from scratch. Otherwise it's hard to get all the words to have an equal chance of appearing again.

pav. v. Jan 3, 2020

The simplicity, oh!, no complicated mechanics, no wierd gamification of anything. It gives me words, their definition and one sentence. It ends there, i don't have to go through a jungle of garbage for the core of the app. It's orgasmic.

Easy to use for studying! Only through the first stack so far but it's pretty simple and clean. Not too many ads either 'cept for them promoting their own gre prep book. Need to sign in to save progress but apparently you can continue off from their website on desktop; however I haven' t tried it yet.
