Years ago, after trying this app, I immediately bought the pro version because it was what I needed. The pro version included no ads. But was unpleasantly surprised when I switched to a new phone. My pro version is no longer available on Google Play, only free with a huge amount of ads. It's sad that developers treat their users this way. Disappointed
This used to be an amazing app (and i happily bought the "pro" version long ago), but at some point they decided to add invasive video ads (which play even when on cellular data) every time you click on a post to read. It's completely unusable now. It made me very sad to see it go, but with a heavy heart i finally uninstalled it. So long, greader... You used to be so great but you've changed.
What a steep decline in quality this app has experienced. Moving to a subscription model is one thing, and I try to keep business decisions in perspective, but the video ads with audio are disruptive, especially in an app that's used primarily for reading. That's enough for me to stop using it, after doing so for so many years. I wouldn't mind silent ads as much. Good luck to the dev, but this is just further proof that nothing is forever.
This was by far the best RSS reader out there, I've had it on my device for years. Tried to purchase the Pro version and discovered it had dropped of the Play Store. Managed to get it on my new phone with a backup of the APK. Along comes an update and it the ads go from banner ads to full page unskipable ads with audio... yeah thanks. Latest update adds even more ads, and a subscription model to go premium? So much for being the best reader out there.
Having bought the Pro version I assumed I would either always be able to update it or at least keep it. After changing phone I realised the Pro app is no longer available for download and this one has moved to a ludicrous subscription model, with the added injury that if you don't subscribe the ads are so intrusive (full screen, full volume, no skipping) they make the user experience extremely unpleasant. I also tried to contact the developer via email 3 times, never received a reply.
This app was great until video ads were introduced. Worst part is that there is no way to disable the sound on the ads even if your phone is set to silent mode. Banner ads are tolerable, but the video ads are just a deal breaker! I tried to update to Pro, but the link fails to open. I have been using greader since it first came out, and I will gladly pay to upgrade if the app lets me.
Wow getting an uninstall from me. This was a great app. I guess the dev doesn't want people to use it anymore? I was reading an article and this really loud video ad popped up full screen, interrupting what I was reading. There are other nice readers to use that don't do that. I don't mind ads, but wait till I go ish the article - and no video ads with sounds. They wake people up and aren't proper in certain environments. There needs to be more consideration from devs about this.
Was a paid suscriber which has now "disappeared". The cheap inappropriate to me & dreadful pop up ads are appalling, as well as noisy which goes down well with the wife when she is trying to.sleep. The new banner ads at the bottom of the page are easily mistakenly clicked, adding to the overall annoyance. WAS a great app and I assumed paying for it would rid me of these annoyances, apparently not. Be aware if paid tier is offered, it may/probably won't last based on my experience. Time to move
This used to be one of my favourite apps. The latest updates have been the worst and introduce annoying intrusive video ads without any control over volume. Custom refresh and synchronisation have stopped working on my phones - Realme 6 and Realme 5 Pro. I have to open the app to get my feeds instead of getting a notification. Time to look for a new app.
Many better alternatives (Feedme and others) with more free functionality, and without the need to dish out a monthly subscription. Freemium model very frustrating as too many ads! Real pity as before the subscription this app was definitely one of the best out there
It used to be an excelent tool to aggregate and read multiple news feeds. Now, it became an annoying app that shows AD almost on each news opened from the feeds. ADs are shown so that you could not close them quick so you have to wait till it closes. It seems that it is time to start looking for an alternative app.
I would love this app as rss reader function and feature better than other rss reader apps. Too bad (local rss service) only work when you allow permission on storage (sdcard) which is may contains sensitive data, even actually apps should be no problem on internal (isolated) storage.
I have used the app for years, even bought the pro version back when they had it. Now they discontinued the pro version and do full volume random video adds. Not going to work. Looking for a new reader. Too bad, as I liked this one for a long time.
Functional, easy to learn and sturdy. Everything that makes a Tool a solid and dependable daily friend. No updates that force you to relearn the whole app every month 6 times a year and intuitive.
This was my favorite RSS reader, and I supported it by buying the Pro version. That Pro version is no longer available and the author wants a monthly subscription. I can understand the wanting the income, but not continuing to give an ad-free app to those that paid for it is simply wrong.
Besides the new ads, syncing isn't working like it used to. I have to manually sync for the read status to get saved or to see new articles. I had originally used the app because it had a working offline mode but that seems broken now.
Hello, first of all I bought the previous version of before it dissappeared, it is unfortunate I lost what I bought. Negative about gReader : - no (easy) bulk actions (select multiple feeds and move them to a folder) - cannot edit a feed Url and/or clone a feed (very useful for feeds with keywords) - why "android fastscroll" is disabled ? feeds have hundreds of articles, it is required to have fast scroll in the feed list - This is why I will give 4/5 stars but remove one because no evolution.
I have 2 issues: 1) when I use RSS feeds from a local opml file, the read items always come back after they are marked as read. 2) The podcast streaming cannot be cast to a speaker or a smart speaker.
Years ago this was a fantastic app, but it has not aged well. The most annoying thing is the insanely loud video ads. I don't mind that they are full screen, but make them silent! I often read in bed before sleeping, but the loud sounds wake my wife and scare my cat.
It makes me so happy to see it back. This app is truly unique. Thanks to it's great user interface and easiness to configure, I can always read the news as fast as possible. The yearly subscription for 6,99 is absolutely worth the price.
I'm another former purchaser and huge fan of this app who was extremely annoyed by the switch to a required subscription or being forced to see the world's most annoying ads. No thanks. I still haven't found a good replacement but I'm not doing this anyway.
Sometimes the articles load and can be easily read while other times I get page load errors, or 'turn off reading mode', although it was turned off previously in the settings. The videos never load although I can sometimes hear them.
Worse than having to deal with pop-up ads - this app intermittently takes their users to third party app installers from which they cannot navigate away. Your only recourse is to close and reopen gReader. This results in an awful experience.
Was great, and now ads are too obnoxious and intrusive. Also scrolling in article broke after recent update and didn't scroll smoothly. Had no problem displaying it's banner ad at the bottom, though. Sadly uninstalling and searching for an alternative.
I must update my original review after purchasing a new Samsung Tablet. The official Feedly app is not great on tablets so I tried gReader again. I still don't like the fact that it changed to subscription after I purchased a license. However, it is the best reader for Feedly on a tablet that I have found. I have now paid for an annual subscription since it offers a much better reading experience. I go through at minimum several hundred feed items a day and gReader makes that much easier.
No idea why they think that can charge a monthly subscription for connecting to someone else's services. Especially when we had the exact same services and pretty much identical software before. Ignoring our previous purchases is borderline illegal. This is basically just a scam now.
A great app with a dreadful advertising approach. Loud, initially unmutable, music/speech blaring out makes it unusable if you give a damn about other people. I've used it for years but will be looking for an alternative. A real shame to have to leave because I really liked the app. Once again, you are just left wondering, who thought this was a good idea.
