Ground News

Messy. Obscures lack of function behind overly complex interface. It may look like there is a lot of customisation, but in reality there is little. Insufficient ability to organize feeds and sources in a comprehensive manner. Screen realestate is wasted with pointless i1tems such as the "Summary" box. There is no point in attempting to summarize an article written for a reading age of 10 years.

As others have said, this app is very US oriented and not of much interest to a UK user, even after selecting the UK region options at installation. The interface in very cluttered and very, very unintuitive. The map zoom is an interesting feature, but sources only show up as "local" in terms of political leanings. It's a great idea, but needs considerable refinement before it becomes my go-to news source

Updated from 1 star to 3 stars after fixing some of the formatting issues. App is running better for me, still a bit cluttered in my opinion. The L/C/R bars under the articles are a bit small, making those a little larger vertically on the screen would be useful for me personally, I often have to go back and try multiple times before I touch the right spot on it

So I like the concept of this app a lot, and I think supporting efforts like this is important, but I'm cancelling my premium subscription. The user interface/reading experience is so messy, so busy, so unweildy, so littered with pop-ups and such, that I actually hate using it. I might check back in a year to see if they've fixed it, because I love the idea. I just hate the execution. Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal is fairly balanced and has pretty good reading experience.

Seems decent enough. Quick improvements i could think of is 1. being able to copy the link for the news article. (Currently it only seems like you can only copy the link to the ground summary) 2.Also I'm not sure or not but it seems like only recent articles will be shown. Meaning this app may only be useful for recent news. (I just got it so still playing around with it but I've noticed it). This related back to 1. Because i like to store links to articles to view later.

I appreciate the idea, the effort. But all these sites wanting to place cookies and having to reject/accept them at almost each article becomes really annoying. Also too much screen real estate devoted to advertising. Cumbersome to navigate. *at least one site told me I've attained the maximum number of articles after I did "reject all". Others only showed part of an article and wanted me to subscribe to read the rest.

Finally an app that can give you news in an unbiased and balanced way. The app in the website offer great insight to the news from local to international with it showing each of the political leanings from liberal to conservative helping you understand each side of the issue. Both the app and the website are extremely well made and a pleasure to use. Furthermore, the development team is highly responsive and dedicated to its users. This is truly a fantastic service.

The potential this app carries is massive, with the right audience and the right focus, it will meet its potential. India is a country where right now, the bias amongst the news houses is unreal and at it's peak. For a country like India, this app is not just a want, it's a need. If this app manages to focus on improving the experience of an Indian news reader, it will solve a lot of problems in the existing scenario of India.

Good attempt, and I like the idea, but the scroll list keeps arbitrarily resetting to the top, articles often have the wrong categories or no categories, and "international" either none or hyper local for various countries. Also there's almost no topics to choose from in the interests list.

The only reason I'm giving this two stars is because I hope with future updates this app can become functional. Pretty much all of the features and aspect of the interface don't work or is blocked off by a pay wall, all it has done to inform me so far is pinging me with a notification.

I'm a news junkie, I have more news apps on my phone than I do games, this one honestly beats them all. It reports all the news sources and shows you how left or right or center any of them are, plus you can read the same article from multiple sources and see how they all tell the same story differently. Please check them out and give them a try!!!

The world absolutely needs this app. Slightly disappointed with some of the complications with the new layout, but I am willing to persevere as there is a much needed product. I am giving it a five star review hoping that the developers will continue with the improvments

I like the app and the idea behind it however I have a problem reading the Ground Summary on first tap of a story. When I try to slide the page up to read, the Full Coverage window comes in. Please fix! I wonder if you review comments that are not one star... Update -you responded to my review saying it would be fixed, and it has. Thank you.

What a mess. I actually *pay* for this service and the last update make the app unusable - I'm told to set up my feed (which I had already done before the update) and nothing happens, most stories don't even have visible text. I see similar complaints here from almost a month ago. Inexcusable. GroundNews had built an excellent reputation in a short time & they seem content to squander it. Again, I *PAY* for this service. If it's not fixed by April I'll be demanding a refund.

I love your idea and execution with Ground News. So much so that I’ve recommended it to at least a dozen folks already that share the same frustration with the access to content that I do. Truly the best news app I’ve found yet. It’s replaced all others for me and is the sole one I now use. I know several friends have also switched.

I regret updating the app. The old interface was better where you could see the spectrum of coverage at a glance and community engagement by the comments. an image filling 75% of the screen and only seeing one headline at a time causes needless navigating

Some 'interests', like sports, are too broad and narrow at the same time. I'm Australian. Cricket scores are expected. US high school basketball scores? Not so much. Still a decent source of information with an attempt at identifying bias.

I've been using this app for awhile, about 2 years now, the recent update is fairly disappointing. The color scheme went from recognizable to boring and the comments were removed entirely. I do like the layout of the new utility tabs, it looks cleaner. For the articles themselves, I prefer the old layout. The comments they were a big draw for me. So instead of hiring moderators, make it a pro feature or have the comments toggled off by default. Then put a disclaimer when enabled.

I've been enjoying this app, but I was actually pretty shocked when I opened it today after it apparently auto-updated. It looks completely different, and not in a good way. The new design is ugly and flat, and looks very unpolished. Everything seems more spread out and requires more navigating to get to the articles and the bias distribution. I don't see anything here that is an improvement in any way... Just a big, inexplicable step backward. I don't think I'll be using it anymore.

Been subscribed to ground news for two years and the UI keeps getting worse and worse with every update, many feature just don't work. Love the idea however the execution needs work

Glad I came to know about Ground News. I am a news junkie. But then I also get stuck reading a random article about something interesting, like the discovery of a new species of large spiders, that is not the most productive use of my time. This is be a big help!

I like the app because real news has curated content that is far superior to nonsense, while other news apps have the full range of items included in their feeds. I love analyzing blind spots and how things are going.

Enjoy the app and the variety it brings for news sources. needs some work on ui/ux (overlapping text in places in the app itself, not the article websites) but overall so far so good.

I did not know that Left mdia also has bias until I started using Ground. It has really opened my eyes. Right media has been demonized so much that I have refrained from reading it all together. But now seeing the coverage right next to each other I can easily see what agenda point is being highlighted by each outlet. Bravo Ground!

Used up my very limited use of reading Left/Center/Right headlines. Didn't read a single article. Just scrolled through 15 headlines or so and was prompted that I need to subscribe to continue using a premium feature. This is just copy pasted news from other outlets.

I enjoy the layout and idea of the app. Media bias is a very serious issue and being able to compare different versions of the same story is a great tool. I guess there used to be a comments section that was removed. I think a comments section would be a great feature. Overall still one of the best news apps out there for layout and sources.

Excellent! Really superb! I agree entirely with their factuality ratings and their bias ratings. And being shown SO MANY articles that I had never seen showed me that even when I was trying to read a variety of news sources I was STILL only reading "one side".
