A guardian must protect her people against the horrors of a world grown wild...

You are about to guide Maia on a treacherous journey where decisions aren't simply about life and death. The gods are watching Maia very closely, judging her behaviours, weighing her choices. Maia's mana is at stake in many of the moves she will make.
In the context of Guardian, 'Mana' represents Maia's personal and spiritual power, her will, her integrity, her inner strength. Episode One has three different endings depending on what Maia's Mana Score is at the end of the game.

Episode One begins outside a traditional Maori settlement in Fiordland, New Zealand. The people are protected by Guardians, and one guardian, Maia, is censured for her strange nature. While Maia lives outside the settlement, in the forest, her loyalty remains strong to her people as she protects them from hostile outside forces.

Find out what happens next by playing through our interactive fiction novel. Make your choices wisely your health and your mana depends upon it.

Episode One is part one of a duology. This is a hybrid historical/science-fiction story that draws on the mythology of the Maori culture in New Zealand. Guardian is also a global story and taps into the universal human need to belong and understand the mysteries of the world.

I love games that reward you by giving you knowledge if indigenous cultures. This does that by giving you the option of clicking to find out more about the terms used and provides an engaging story within which the player's choices impact the outcome of the game. It also seems that mana is used in a culturally appropriate manner, given the limitations of gameplay, and not simply as a term for "energy". I would pay to play a second chapter if just to support further such games

Very interesting story, nice explanations of words and the drawings are beautiful! I very much appreciate the female perspective, a woman who is strong and courageous instead of boring, untrue female stereotypes. One thing is a bit less; every paragraph one needs to click to continue, it's a bit disruptive and imho unnecessary.

RPG Interactive Story. The writing is interesting and surprising. I don't know jack all about New Zealanders, or if that is even an acceptable term, apologies if not, but the story line has an authentic feel. I especially love the links that I can click and learn about the Mythology behind the culture. The artistry is great as well. You read the story, you pick the action. The results may surprise you as they have me.

i thought this was a solid chapter. it has minimal spelling mistakes and only 3 outcomes that arent super tricky to get. definitely makes it a good reread without burning you out from the serious. also pretty creative what happens when you die. good work on this app!

An absolutely excellent game. Smooth, beautiful, interesting, and educational. I have no qualms other than a very, very few grammatical errors. Your team did an amazing job and I'd love to see more like this.

Really awesome story. Not a huge amount of gameplay but the story and the educational elements more than make up for it

Really enjoy the story line so far. Also, this is an interactive story rather than a game for those who had also thought otherwise. Nevertheless, it it still enjoyable.

I never write reviews but absolutely loved this game & its kaupapa. First time I've played something so mana-enhancing! Great background music, interesting storylines. Maia is such a fierce mana wahine & as wahine Māori, playing this game is an absolute delight. Can't wait for the full console guardian Maia to be released!! I've just finished this & tbh feel like going back to play again & see how other decisions impact the story. Well done & ngā mihi nui to the GM whānau 🖤🤍❤

Amazing? I can't say how much I appreciate our culture being thrusted into the world through games it's one thing to go the apex legends route but to go this far is phenomenal and it shows in the story character art and culture. Mean Maori Mean!!

Story line is pretty cool, the clicking when changing scenes is a bit much. It's intriguing thought it was a video game if so plz send me the link...

What a stunning and well written game. I also love the fact that the protagonist is a strong woman. Hopefully a lot of people will learn a lot about Maori culture and Mythology from playing this. Definitely deserves a 5 star rating from this NZER!

Gripping, intelligent, exotic. Another culture and an exciting story where every choice counts.

Its pretty awesome, the sounds arent overpowering, just enough to be perfect ambience. And the only reason i havent given 5 stars is because i havent finished the game.

The ludic aspects aren't very challenging but the narrative and setting are both unique and compelling.
