The app stopped being able to control the air purifier. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. After starting the app again, I got several errors about network connectivity. The errors were inconsequential. Maybe it's because I'm using Android 9 Pie? Anyway, I ignored the errors (there were several) and logged back in. The app is able to control the air purifier again! (Hooray!) Really looking forward to seeing native Google Assistant Home control support for the air purifier so I don't need to bounce around between apps to control all of my "smart" devices!
I'm extremely disappointed in the app's lack of functionality. It simply will not connect to WiFi, which makes the entire app pointless. Multiple Android devices have tried, none work. Overall the air purifier is a wonderful product, but this really defeats the main selling features. This is not a "Smart" device without a functioning app. This needs to be corrected immediately! I would happily edit this review upon an update to the app which delivers on the original promises.
Wow it really is as bad as the other reviews say. The Google assistant integration is clunky, often disconnects if your device name is more than one word, and even when it says it works it doesn't. The app itself is shockingly slow and unresponsive, but at least works if you wait long enough. This is on good wifi signal.
Bluetooth not connecting: I've been trying to connect the air purifier to my bluetooth, literally a few inches away from it, and my phone doesn't detect it. It can connect to all my other devices (though I made sure everything is off before trying to use this app) but it won't pick up the "Link" signal.
Truly an awful app. I will be returning the entire device as it is almost useless without basic features. Very shady attempt at collecting everyone's data. "Must have internet access" - Why? I should be able to control it within my own network, from app, from Google Home, and from IFTTT. "Forced to create account" - Should not be needed for such a simple product. Get out of here. ""Requires location services" - Yeah... no it doesn't. This should be optional at the most. On top of the shady practices, the app doesn't even work or stay connected after that! Amazing how hard they dropped the ball on this one. --- EDIT: Also Ads? WHY ADS? I paid you money already for this product. Get rid of the ads.
The app said a filter change was due but the air purifier did not. Unit has the usual solid green LED and solid green circle. (CDAP4500BCA). The app says to press the timer button on machine 3 seconds. Funny... the manual says 5 seconds. Regardless... pressing the button did nothing to clear the app banner. Why can't you clear from the app as well? Long round of trying every combo possible. Finally uninstalled app and reinstalled but now it won't link at all. Great machine. Horrible App
this app is as basic as possible.At a minimum, it needs the ability to schedule fan speed at various times throughout the day. It needs direct integration with Alexa so that I can ask "Alexa, set the Hepa fan to 2" for example. The Alexa skill is just as basic. I'm very disappointed the a quality name like Guardian would release such a poor app.
I'd give it 5 stars because the User Interface is great BUT the dang thing will not connect back to wifi when my power goes out. My air purifier loses the wifi connection and that's it the app is not help. I have to unplug the purifier, plug it back in, hit forget device on the app, press the button till it blinks green and then reconnect it EVERYTIME. If you unplug it to move it you have to do it ALL over again. Even my cheap $7 wifi lightbulbs reconnect even after the power goes out.
App needs Some "Fresh Air" to it. The GermGuardians themselves have been great air cleaning units, but the app leaves a lot to be desired. It's very basic in nature. No logging or history so you really can't see if your air quality is improving over time or not or when you might have peaks, etc. Setting up was "okay" but could be more clear. Also more info on what particulates the counter is referring to (e.g. 2.5, 10,1ppm) or what. This is not clear in the app or site. Shame, product is great.
Changed my rating to 3 stars, Google Assistant integration needs to be updated to support Ok Google and Hey Google commands **from first review in 2019 when I gave 5 stars** I did not have any problems installing, connecting to WiFi or adding purifier. Everything was quick and easy. Controlling from app is great.
I had no trouble setting up the Wi-Fi or Google Assistant, however wordy the commands are. There appears to be no Google Home or IFTTT integration. Feature request: calendaring functionality so as to automate weekday, weekend, vacation schedules.
have 2 units and they both unsync bluetooth, can be right in front of the units and they dont link up. very aggravated that this seems to be a problem. who ever designed this app need to fix this issue.
Terrible app cannot connect to air purifier. I can connect to any other device on Bluetooth but for some reason can't with this app. Don't include this feature if you can't use.
It is hard to connect to purifier and then when you finally get it connected it will disconnect after a short period of time. It tells you your password is wrong and you have to reset it all the time.
This app is 100% useless. I can't connect to the machine at all. And I'm fairly electronic literate. I'm very suspicious this is just a way to get people's info.
Well everything was working great for a couple of weeks, then the circle went red I have tried everything that's listed in the owners manual, all with no luck. I just dont know what to do to bring it on line.
Clumsy app and terrible Google Home integration. Oh, and forget contacting support when your until goes haywire; they do not return messages.
Requires bluetooth and location settings to be permanently on. Google / Nest integration works poorly

In addition to the comments others have made about quality, would-be users should read the EULA which apparently allows them to collect any user data they think they need and share it with a broad range of parties, interpreting the agreement under Japanese law. And there is no stated privacy policy at all, at least that I can find before opening an account (apparently with Aplix, not Guardian). Hazard to privacy even without connections to voice control devices.
Can't switch back to app to enter the emailed registration code without the app losing the page.
App never recognized the purifier. Also, location permission is unnecessary.

Blatant false advertising. The advertising for the air purifier, and the instruction manual, says it works with Google Home/Assistant. But it doesn't show up in the list of brands/devices in the Google Home app, which means it can't be used with Google Assistant. The cake is a lie. The app itself isn't quite as awful as some reviews suggest, but it's bad. Could walk to the device and back several times in the time it takes for the control screen to load. Absurd.
