Best platform especially for beginner guitarists. The guitar fundamentals 1 and 2 modules are the best I've found online for teaching the beginner guitarist. I hope they add a video/lesson download option in the future so we can still watch and learn without needing to be connected to wifi or cell service.
This is the app not the content. The app is just terrible. I mean so bad. Navigation is totally limited. You can zoom on notation which completely ruins the app. No filters on song list. The experience is better on a mobil browser.
One of the best guitar sites. Lisa was my first teacher. I look at her now and it feels like she's an old friend. If you're a beginner, check her out. I like how they teach songs. They break the songs into chunks. Might have eight videos on one song. Works for me.
Well, the price is costly. Some videos are really old. I've been using this app for a year, and I did not like it. Some stuff are not explained well. The app intereface is so bad as well. I regret hoining GuitarTricks.
Very basic intro . For free you learn about the guitar, different types and what the parts are called. Absolutely NO lessons on playing the guitar. So useless as I am not going to pay a subscription for something that I cannot get a feel for. I would avoid unless you do feel that's all you need.
With the variety of tutors and tutorials, and it's step by step process, I would remark with a thumbs up guys! You're millions of help to the beginners and top ranking players out there.... Great job!
Happy customer overall. Good content. I'm just rating the app, which has a very frustrating design. Little things like not providing a way to go to the next lesson (you have to go back out to the lessons view). Luckily you can at least hit "next" for videos within a lesson, but *not from full screen* (you have to exit out, rotate your screen, and hit next, then you can go back into full screen). Also, auto-play for the next video would be nice.
I've come back to edit this review. The content of the courses is great. They have so many different courses. I don't like how they teach songs though. There are no visual aids on the screen and you just watch the teacher play it. It would be better if they added some graphics for the chords being played and even the strumming patterns. As for the app, it's ultra basic. You're better off just using a browser. Justin Guitar's app has way more "app like" features. This app just plays videos.
I find the level of detail and accessibility of the app to be a refreshing break from the chaotic "regiment" I previously set for myself. I decided to go back to the very beginning and follow the lessons provided, and have found I had plenty left to learn about even something as simple as holding a pick! Overall, I'm very satisfied so far, and encourage anyone to give this app a try!
The content is good as it's the one from the web but the features and the execution of the Android app lets a lot to be wished for. The notation does not appear at all and it does not show at the same time with the video - video stops. What's the actual point in that? I want to see the notation while I'm playing along. There are layout problems in landscape mode etc. etc. There are no interactive or supportive video features(that lacks on the web also). A missed opportunity!
The content is great, some features could be improved: - speeding up: especially for beginner lessons it would be usefull to be able to speed up the pace. Most people have had some sort of guitar-interaction and while we don't want to fully skip content (who knows what usefull information we might miss) it would be useful to be able to play the videos faster - I can't move on to the next video of a series on full screen mode - I can't see the time-leght of a series: how long are all its videos
What I really like about Guitar tricks is it's structure. It's core skills, is a logical easy to follow step by step method to teach you guitar from first chord, rythm etc. There after it continues this method with acoustic guitar, country, blues and rock. This means you wiĺl always have something new to learn. It all so has a great selection of song lessons, and techniques. It's ideal for beginners to intermediates.
I don't understand why this app is out, it's clearly half done. It looks like an alpha release. It's impossible to use Google/Facebook account to login. In the beginner section all the styles videos are missing. The video are missing the loop functionality. Honestly you're not giving a good image and it's a pity for the excellent teachers that explain very well the various topics. I'm very disappointed.
Outstanding! I've been playing for about 12 years and never took any lessons. I learned all over the place using other means and never really learning the fundamentals correctly. Well music theory to be precise. I am well rounded on how to play songs from past experience, but this method is so useful. If I could start again, I'd definitely start here. Time is valuable. Some advise for those looking for free lessons all over the web... it will take a long while to learn properly that way.
The app is so easy and clear to use that i prefer it over the website now. Guitar Tricks is really an informative and very well structured program. The community are supportive, and if i have a concern, I email support and get a very fast response. The only downside to the app, is that once you finish a chapter it doesn't get marked as complete. It would be good to show a 'tick' or 'completed' after each video has finished. Overall : A great learning tool, would definitely recommend ☺
I think the app is good for beginners. But, I am not a beginner. I spent awhile checking out tutorials. Anything for experienced guitarists was way below par. And not really worth paying for. You can get more from Youtube. I don't wish to complain. But I do think they should properly market this as FOR BEGINNERS. I had a better experience using tab and software.
The app is not easy to navigate in lesson mode. Between fullscreen and back the video restarts itself from the beginning. Other than that it's fine and clear. But is it really worth the money? It is of the most expensive I tried, not really different to justify. Free trial asks for credit card, always sounded like a scam to me. Think twice, 20 bucks a months that's the price of a 30 minutes lesson with a real teacher.
The app feels ancient, the lessons are all videos I didn't find a single one that wasn't. Maybe I'm the only one that expected written lessons with pictures and diagrams. They also don't let you cancel your subscription inside the app so it took me forever to find how to cancel. Personally it seems like a dirty tactic to make money by making it too hard to cancel.
Great app for beginners and have a good support team that works with you if you find any problems with the app. I signed up for a year and then decided I didnt need the app anymore but forgot to cancel the subscription. When my year was up I was charged $179 ( I had a yearly subscription) so I called the support team and they refunded that amount with no problem.
content is good but the app needs work. Theres no way to mark which lessons are completed, you just have to remember which point you are up to everytime you want to practice, also video player is not very good and loads at a random point of the video instead of starting at the start. Also would be good to go to the next video within each lesson from fullscreen, instead of minimising, clicking next video, then maximising the video to full screen.
This app is a great substitute for private lessons if you can't afford them or can't find a good instructor in your area. 2 weeks with the guitar fundamentals course have taught me more about how to play correctly than 6 months with a private teacher (I admit, this is probably atypical, my private teacher didn't really do technique). The song lessons look fantastic, too. I tinkered around in one and was thrilled with how thorough it seemed.
The Android version of the app is not being supported to the same level as the IOS version of this app. It was last updated in 2018. You cannot even do a simple text search for a song. You must scroll through all the songs each time you need one. I was told by support that this feature was only being added to the IOS App at the moment. I do not pay less then and apple user so why do I get less of an experience. Once they go back to supporting the Android App again I will change my ratin
I give this app 2 stars, it has potential to be great and gain a lot of ground. However, it only allows you to watch one introductory video to the app and the guitar and then you have to subscribe for $20/mo or $177/yr. I feel it is ridiculous that they won't even let you have th opportunity to be introduced or enjoy the app and some features. I feel that if they were to expand on the free trial it'll draw more users in.
I've into just started with Guitar Tricks and while the lessons are amazing and I'm learning quite a lot; this app is pretty much like a working on Windows 95. It's way too outdated. I mainly use my laptop where is so much more simpler, easy to use and has a lot more options to navigate through and video options. Such a shame because GT is such an amazing way to learn!
Needs an Update - Overall the class and program is 5 stars but the Android app definitely needs an update. How is there not an easy fast forward rewind 10 seconds option which is critical when you're first learning a song? How come the video starts over again when you click on the tablature? There are a lot of little things like this that can make this app frustrating to use. Again love the teachers and general style that everything is taught, but really needs an upgrade.
Pretty good app that syncs up with the Web version on pc so I can pickup where I left off. Have resubscribed for a second year. The big downside for the Android app is that there is no way to search for songs like there is on the web version. You have to scroll through 1000 plus songs! Otherwise I can't fault it really. Add a search bar and it'd be 5 stars 😁. Ps Also lyrics (also already available on web version) would be handy.
