Guitar Scales & Patterns, FREE

I've created this app as a theory reference for myself, while learning the guitar, I hope you find it useful too :) No adds. What it does:
- shows scales and modes
- scale box pattern highlighting
- triad chords
- supports custom tuning guitar and bass
- "left-hand" option.
- plays notes on touch

It's a very useful and complete reference for the scales on a guitar. Word of advice to users: when setting your device on a kickstand sideways, try setting your preferences to left handed (if you fret with your left). Doing so will make it easier to read the scale by putting the bass string on top.

The notes don't work on touch. But this is still an amazing app, the scales are on demand and can be sorted by key... That's the mind of a great dev and professional musician 💯

Super cool app, is it possible to see the whole fretboard on the screen? Can only see 8 frets at the same time. Want to zoom out...

This app is just what I was looking for. I wanted to learn more about intervals in the various modes and scales. This app does just that in a very clever and beautiful interface. Most of the screen shows the fretboard with the notes on it. On the side you can choose from more than 40 scales. The scale can be displayed either with note names or by their number within the scale (I choose the number because that helps with understanding the theory). There is also a metronome. Just an awesome app.

For learning scales, you need nothing else. This app is everything you need to learn the scales of your fretboard. I have been learning to play 6 string bass, struggling to find charts and other resources that would teach me all the scales i could use. This app does just that and more. A built in metronome, a way to focus on just the notes of a single position, visualising intervals, and more for any scale. You can even tap the notes and hear them which can help you know if you're out of tune.

Words cannot describe how useful this app is. It does exactly what it says on the tin, yet somehow it does more. It has support for up to eight strings, and it is also extremely versatile when it comes to tunings. You can pick basically any note for any string, and it has many, many scales to choose from. I have literally no complaints. :)

Very simple and straightforward app. Lets you choose between notes or numbers to find cords and learn the fretboard. Has the whole scale for you to see or can break down each pattern in box form. The app is just scales so no cord diagrams which if you're trying to learn a new scale i think this app is one of the best to learn and practice without other things temping the mind. Supports 6 and 7 string guitar plus bass. Has custom setting for strings up to 7.

If you were a player in the 90s then you probably remember the "Gig Bag Book of..." series. They covered a variety of subjects, but this is what we wanted. An all in one, easily usable guide to the fretboard. I use this thing everyday and it's probably the second most useful app I have. I can't recommend this enough. Visually it could bet prettier, but I don't care. It works and it works well.

Wow! This app blew me away! There are a large variety of scales available, all with every note on the fret board, as well as each shape being easily divided. Not only that, there's a built in metronome! Great app, I would recommend to anyone who pays guitar, from beginner and up.

Excellent app, free with no ads. Includes metronome and common chord groups for each scale and key. Many of the scales are free, including the ones most commonly used. If you want to expand your musical knowledge you can pay for an upgrade to unlock more scales. Very impressed Thank you to the developer.

it's really awesome and helpful.. it has every scale i coul think of.. but if you are ever gonna update the app someday.. I'd recommend naming the notes a little bit more specific..(which means right when it comes to music theory) for an example the in c blues the second note should be called e flat.. instead it's shown as a d sharp... (i think that would be a great help for those approaching the scales from music theory and not from improvising solos).. still a very nice app though ^^

Amazing app. I heard about these apps from Jake Lizzio (Signals Music Studio on YouTube). There is a desktop application called "fretastic" which is similar. They are an incredible resource, easy to use and adaptable to a plethora of musical styles so huge thanks to the developers for making this available without annoying ads! ❤️

Its a very simple useful tool for the guitar. It has helped me with learning my scales. Occasionally it sticks but otherwise its a great app. Simple interface easy to use. A few sound variations would be cool.

I have played a guitar since 16, now i want a new challenge and got a slide guitar in C6, this bad boy of an app is perfect. I set up each string as needed, and boom. Everything is visually right there. It can show notes, or the note of the scale, whether a flatted 3rd or minor 7th. This is awesome.

Yeah, this is the real deal fellow artists. There is zero BS involved here, and no matter what tuning you play in; even if its one you've dreamt up yourself, with very little effort the app will transpose every scale imaginable to your tuning. No ads, brilliantly simple & easy to understand/navigate. This is the app you want, whether you're a noob, or a pro, this is the way to go. P.S. No, I'm not being paid to write this, despite what my ridiculous enthusiasm might suggest to the more suspicious crowd. It's just that good. -Cheers

The app is good. But the screen turns off when in idle. I want to use this during practice but it keeps timing out and its frustrating. Hopefully you could put a screen on default when app is used when you update. Other than that. Its good

Wow. rave reviews drew my interest. i see the app is only 1.18 mB. Interesting. I open the app to find modes familiar from my melodic theory studies. i realize this will begin helping me remember very quickly. strange, regional and "dialect" phrasings, from different parts of the world, are here, in the palm of my hand. i touched the fretboard. IT IS A PLAYABLE GUITAR APP! I immediately looked for a link to rate it. Nothing so mundane. So i returned to app store, and there you go.

I have been playing guitar for 50 years and this is an excellent app! Gives you everything you need for scales except the music theory... but they do give you the option of annotating notes by classical alphabetic notation or the Nashville numbering system! Highly recommended!

cool concept, but intermittently i get this horrible squeal instead of an note when tapping a note. It usually happens on the higher frets (usually above the 18th), mostly on the higher strings (GBE) altho i get this on the other strings too. Not sure what the issue is here. Great layout and easy to use. Standard, base, and custom tuning. Major, Natural Minor, Major Pent, Minor Pent, Blues, Blues Major, Dorian, Phrygian, etc in any key. All free with zero ads or pop-ups. The only in-app purchases are for additional scales, and they are shaded and placed below the free scales, so u will never get a pop-up while using the unmistakably obvious free content.

Excellent app. I play lap steel in C6 tuning (CEGACE) & use "custom tuning". I love the way you can show notes or intervals. Allows up to 8 strings in any tuning you want. Updated 16/11/21 now using 8 string ACEGACEG tuning on lap steel. App still awesome. Would like to see 1/2 diminished pentatonic (1, b2, b3, b5, b7) and BB King "BB box" (1, 2, b3, 4, 5, 6) added, but it has a ton of scales already.

Tom. N. Jun 27, 2021

Great app, so cool that i can set this for different tunings like all fourths that im using. I wish that dotted frets couls be more visible, for a beginner like me it would help a bit. Perhaps option to choose different colors or dot size or shape. Thank you.

zer. c. Aug 10, 2021

Two recommendations. (1) have a feature to blackout notes by touching them so that I can use a scale in say position 1 then jump to postion 9 without having all the other notes on there distracting me, and (2) don't comment on the 1-star comments. They're playing you.

Bil. F. Mar 14, 2020

Like the layout. But unfortunately something as basic as the mixolydian mode is not offered in the free version. As some other common modes. Plenty of other apps that at least offer all the modes to the major scale.

Ton. Y. Aug 21, 2020

Impressive scale reference. Only just started using it. Some years ago I found a good scale reference in a blues book but this covers more scales and also shows them for all keys - and is interactive! :)

Rob. C. Aug 8, 2020

Very good. Clear layout. Easy to use. Best out there, having trawled through dozens. Would really like chord notes to be optionally highlighted (in a different colour) - this would make it 5 star for me.

Dav. N. May 25, 2019

This is a well thought out scales app. It works absolutely flawless and I cannot think of anything that could be done to improve it. I would give it 10 stars if i could. The developer has put a lot of thought into the layout. This really has improved my playing in just a few short days. I will be upgrading.

Ant. L. Mar 15, 2022

This is an excellent reference! Very easily navigable, well thought out.

Jai. B. Jun 2, 2021

This is by far one of the best apps. Interactive, simple, and comprehensive. Only minor issue(s) and hope this will be resolved e.g. some notes are not sounding when tapped. Thank you for this educational app. God bless...
