I don't usually write reviews, but Handy absolutely earned it. With brand new (free!) features being added such as subsurface scattering, new high-resolution models, and ability to load multiple models in a scene, they've established themselves as one of my essential tools for digital art. I recommend it to anyone who is starting out drawing or rendering and needs that solid anatomical/lighting foundation. Can't wait to see what features they will come out with in the future!
The app is nice and useful, I like the ability to fine tune lighting and camera, the quality and quantity of the paid collections seem more than reasonable. (Developer added the feature, review score updated!) [from previous review:]Only sticking point and something I would really love to see is the ability to toggle textures added. Wanting to study raw forms and lighting of hands and feet becomes a bit harder due to the visual noise added by the textures. Would happily give 5 stars if added.
There is not a better made artist assistant app than this. You can bend at every joint! They have heads, animal skulls, feet! You can move the lighting, change colors of the lighting, set shadows! The 3d models are incredibly intricate, and the coding is sublime. You people working on this app, thank you! P.s. a tiny thing that I think might just be with my phone, the opening selection screen is now sideways, it no longer fits along my screen normally, still works perfectly though! Oneplus6
This app is literally so... handy. Just having this as an option has convinced me to draw more, easy access to references and being easy to customize. Sometimes it can be hard finding refs of exactly the pose I want. Only used it for hands so far but it's great. I love that you can modify the lighting as well. Really recommended!
Exactly what it says on the tin! If you are an artist struggling with drawing heads and hands on multiple angles, i highly recommend this app! If you're looking for a more "complete" full 3d posable model experience, this app isn't for you, but if you got the gesture basics down but struggle in complex body structures, this one's for you!
Absolute Favorite for anatomy references. It can be pretty difficult to find references for hands, feet, and faces in the specific positioning I need when drawing. This app allows me to do it myself which has helped greatly. I just wish there where a way to change ear shapes and facial features.
Very good for reference. Paying extra for the female foot and animals skulls are totally worth it! I expected there to be full model poses for reference but those can be found in other places. I love the lighting feature and the different references are super dynamic. 100% recommend this no matter what artist you are.
Asked for a refund because even though I paid for the app you still have to pay for other features like animal skulls or feet models. Also something that I was expecting is that they isn't any models of the body. Some good features like rotation and saving and they're alot of references for hands and head, therefore this app is great for that. I just don't expect to pay for other features after paying for the app, the feet model are even on show in the pictures.
The app is easy to use, has lots of useful tools - all very simple to get working, yet very effective - and takes but a few seconds to bring up a bunch asorted of references for Hands, Heads, Feet and Skulls. There ARE some stuff locked behind paywall, but they are very very cheap. I love the app, and it helped me out several times. I recommend it.
Could be very useful. Really needs the ability to lock the camera axis though. It's very frustrating to have the model spin about accidentally. If we could have the ability to just turn it along the x axis, it would be usable. For sculpting, its just too frustrating to turn the figure.
I mean. I love that you can change the colors of the lighting and such. But I was disappointed when that's all you could really do. The app would be 10/10 if they had full bodies too and if you can change the express of the head models. And if it was just more customizable all over. I'm disappointed. It had a lot a lot a lot of potential.
This is a great app! Its definitely a must have for any artist that would like reference in form and lighting. Extremely useful! Only thing is the menu coulbe organized better but not that big a deal. If they could add a full body reference that would be the ultimate app.
I like this app faces are pretty difficult. i like that you can rotate every aspect from the tilt of the head, full frontal, side profile,3/4 view and the lighting as well. I would definitely recommend to my artist buddies.
As the name suggests, a very useful app for modeling both heads and hands under different lighting conditions, great for artists and illustrators students and professionals alike. You can fully rotate a host of different models and adjust and position the colour of lighting, very useful.
Previously I used this app on a Samsung Tab A, and never encountered any problems, but after installing to a more recent device (Samsung Tab S6 lite) I am unable to save the screenshots or find them anywhere in my device's storage. I have allowed all permissions and the issue still persists.. Update: It now works fine! thank you so much. 5 stars from me 🙂♥️
Its amazing. Maybe the developers can consider putting in wireframe versions of everything. Or the props section atleast. It would be useful for people trying to learn the fundamental forms. Being able to see through the structure of the form would be extremely useful
Been using the app for years, as well as other similar ones- I bought this on Android, PC AND iOS. Easily the best app of its type, no other anatomy ref has this level of straightforward ease and doesnt have infuriating paywalls to use basic features like most competitors. THANK YOU, HANDY!
Very useful app! It has a very nice collection of reference models. I would like to see the asaro head on here too though, also it would be incredibly much more useful if mirroring the head also mirrors the lighting set-up.
Great app for practicing drawing hands! I really like that you're able to move the hand and individual fingers to a pose you'd want and adjust the lighting as well. The app comes with heads for free, but there are some in-app purchases like feet and animal skulls.
I love it, you can even move each finger with each hand pose. In addition have 3 different lights and colors. Very helpful. I already bought the animal skulls expansion. Looking forward to more useful expansions.
bought months ago and came back to confirm this app was absolutely worth my money. beautiful, detailed and accurate assets, full range of views and lighting. i also bought the additional asset packs and was not disappointed. this has been very helpful in my understanding of anatomy as an artist.
A very versatile tool. Good for practising or when working from low resolution, badly lit or grainy photos. Mostly intuitive, but experiencing some issues with obtaining correct lighting. Hoping this will come with practice.
Works well, great if I need quick refs and don't have internet around. The lighting feature is a nice touch, not many similar apps have that. Customer service is also very nice and quick.
Is good and useful pocket reference. Great for lazy artists. The separation of head/hands/feet is a great way to concentrate on the object. "Geometrical" versions are truly helpful. I dig the face shading from now on.
So far, so good. Intuitive, simple to use. My one suggestion would be to include hands with articulated joints for more specialized/precise posing. Other than that, a very useful app for hand references.
I like it. Its nice to be able to position the light source around the hand or head. I bought it for the positionable hands so I could stop trying to awkwardly use my left hand as a model. It works great for that. It would be nice to include more variety in shapes in the future.
Love the app and resource. Bummed I can't use a mouse or pen to work the app. Lost touch on a tablet, it is pen and b/t mouse only now and I can't use the app anymore. Galaxy note pro with native pen. Mx master Bluetooth mouse also wouldn't work.
Very detailed hands and feet. Easy to pose but the lighting system is a bit cumbersome. I just wish I could pose the heads too. Being able to rotate the neck would make the busts FAR more useful.
Wow! This is one hell of an update. Thank you so much for all the extra stuff without any in app purchases! There is one issue though, the models are showing a white outline and lowers resolution whenever I try to turn them and then gets back to full resolution. Also the Gizmo has become much smaller which is a little bit difficult to interact with. I loved the fluidity and performance of the old version. If possible please bring those miniscule experiences back. I hope you guys are doing well!
