HanYou - Chinese Translator
HanYou displays a pop up window containing English translations and pinyin forms of Chinese mandarin words & characters, when you point the camera at them using your iPhone or iPad. The App also allows you to take pictures or directly select them from your camera roll in order to translate any displayed characters and words.
HanYou also has a built-in drawing feature for you to draw and translate Chinese characters on your touch-screen, in order to learn and practice writing Chinese. HanYou also includes a dictionary searchable in Chinese (Hanzi / Piyin or drawing) or English.
HanYou fully works offline.
Tips / Features :
- translate all types of Chinese characters (simplified, traditional) into English
- look up Chinese or English words by typing or drawing the characters (free)
- detection and translation of Chinese characters in real time using the camera or on pictures imported from your device (paying feature, free for a one week trial period)
- get the pinyin form of the Chinese characters for easy pronunciation
- freeze the camera frame with the "Freeze" button and navigate through the picture by dragging the cursor
- tap to focus, zoom by pinching and move the picture or the cursor by dragging
- copy the recognized characters with a long press gesture for subsequent use
- read either horizontal or vertical text
- manually draw characters on your screen, recognize and translate them

Fix this! V2.9 on Android 8 is crashing when tapping on download sentence database or databases section on the left menu. While it works well with 2.8 Therefore 2.9 is unusable Also, Jyutping pronunciation is written incorrectly in 2.9. while it is fine in 2.8. Maybe not for all characters but 離 is a good example
very useful both for beginner and language user. it helps one in finding out the meaning of the word or combination of phase which the one is used. it helps in the pronunciation if one does not know word. over all, very good .
Horrible app. I paid for the pro feature so i can use the camera to detect chinese character. But it is so horrible, cannot detect even simple word like 小心. Please stay away from this horrible app.
When i take a picture (live translate)it's never clear and it never in a trilion years can it properly translate some thing on live translate rarely it gets i correct and its terrible to use DON'T INSTALL IT.😣😠😡😦
Great Chinese dictionary but it's also more than that; really like the wall where you can ask each other for translations and today's words that gives you relevant words every day
poor apps, try many times to take picture of chinese sentences but after taking picture it suddenly out from the apps. waste my times downloading.

Why every time I write W, its say M all the time
I love the optical recognition feature, this is really helpful. Also the drawing input in the dictionary mode works really well!
I paid for the camera translation and no matter how still I am it won't focus on the words. Also I paid once and now its telling me that if I want the camera feature I have to pay again! I want my money back!!
Super useful for me! I'm learning Chinese but there's always a character that I don't know and that app super-helps!!

The function I find most useful on the "HanYou" app is the "Analyse" one. Simply copy and paste a text, press "Analyse" and the Pinyin will appear above the text, plus you can highlight the word and a detailed list of definitions will appear. It will also highlight the HSK level of some words. But the best part of this function is the app can compile the words from the text into flashcards, perfect for pronunciation drilling. My only criticism is the audio doesn't sound totally natural.
