Just tried to run this game again for the first time in a long time, only to find the message that it has shut down. Despite me not playing for ages, this actually made me quite sad. I think the issue this game faced, is that you cannot quite run it in parallel with Pokémon Go, which was "there first" for people to get hooked onto. When I went out, I could play one game or the other, not both, so sticking to one game was favoured for the purpose of properly make progress, rather than making some half progress in two games. If that wasn't a consideration, I would have wholeheartedly spent hours upon hours playing this game. So it saddens me to see it go. I would like to thank the devs for their time and effort, for what very well was a memorable game.
Sad to see this one closing down, but Niantic/WB is giving us a gift during the remaining time it's around of a game that can truly be played to its fullest without purchases. They've fixed several of the bugs, including the ones impacting Adventure Sync (and created some smaller new ones). The final batch of content is beautiful and the storyline is actually being brought to a conclusion, which is a pleasant way to end this, even if it's not what a lot of us would have wanted.
Fantastic! I love it. There is a glitch I deal with though. You sometimes get stuck in the menu to select vault or skills, etc, and can't get back to the map. It doesn't happen very often though. This game adds a lot of extra content to the Harry Potter universe. Great job Niantic.
Game is fun. However, lacking some basic polish. Doesn't have in game settings to control all notifications. It has some, but even when you turn those off, you get other notifications. I should never have to resort to blocking them through Android. Regularly pops up a warning that I'm in a car when I'm just walking. Not even running. Doesn't seem to sample traces accurately. You're encouraged to trace quickly, but then it doesn't seem to sample the curves fast enough. So you're penalized.
Fun, but frustrating. They need to seriously address the spell energy issue first. Secondly, rare encounters should be the thing you need to find once, not the one you need to run into twelve times. The game freezes a Lot. You lose things when you reboot. Also, have a really good wifi and data usage plan. You'll need it. Plan on paying to play effectively if you live in a rural area. The graphics are really pretty and the game is engaging. Just really frustrating.
Can't get past the loading screen. I have tried every troubleshooting step I could think of. Cleared the cache, changed to a different network (mobile and wifi), uninstalled and reinstalled, and yes, even restarted the phone. I understand that a lot of people really enjoy the game, and that's great! Truly and honestly! But the fact that it doesn't run on my Note9? Disappointing.
The theme is great, the game has many bugs that need to be fixed. it crashes frequently, resulting in the screen to become unresponsive and nothing gets recorded when that occurs. It is very repetitive, you have to repeat the same tasks every day that only slightly change while progressing through the ranks. For unknown reason, I was completely logged out and was asked to sign up again. Hope things improve and get more interesting, kids love it.
This game has a lot of potential; however, it has many issues. I may have 4 or 5 bars of signal, but the game freezes. It freezes either right after I tap on an ingredient on the map OR after I finish whatever task I click on (swiping wand game, greenhouse, etc). It doesn't happen all of the time. But it happens often enough for me to give up. It is beyond frustrating when that happens and these are similar issues they have been having with Pokemon GO.
It's fun so far, but still some kinks to be worked out. Combat is REALLY unforgiving for beginners, and honestly so are the traces. It's ridiculously difficult to get any higher than a Fair ranking, which is the lowest level. Collecting items is cool though, and the variety of buildings to discover is really nice. Overall a very worthy successor to PoGo, but needs a little balancing.
Enjoyable, but could be better. Major issue #1, objects disappear too easily and too often. I would have hoped PoGo taught the developers to fix this, apparently not. VERY FRUSTRATING to waste a bunch of energy just to have the object disappear. Also, a minor detail but needed, many objects have to be caught multiple times. It would be great to have a notice on the screen of how many you have/need. I give 3 stars b/c the above issues and it takes a long time to catch an object.
overall it's a pretty well done game. There are still some small things that I wish were different. When I'm moving, the character doesnt point the way your phone is going and there is no option (as far as I've seen) to turn it off. I also wish there were more options to get spell energy. lastly there is no adventure sync option so the game is very draining on the battery if you want to unlock portkeys. Despite that, the game isnt too bad
The concept is cool and still mostly novel. There's a huge variety of magical objects and creatures with well-crafted animations that you can interact with in AR. Spellcasting is fun and can be challenging. Unfortunately, once the novelty wears off, there doesn't seem to be much incentive to keep players interested long-term. The main objective seems to be just building your stamp collection of rescued objects, which are mostly uninteresting unless you're really into HP lore.
Overall, I like the game. It's fun and entertaining. My main issues come from bugs that have yet to be fixed. I finished a challenge in a fortress and placed the image on one of the pages. The bar at the top blinked, but didn't go up any points and now I have a red dot on one of the challenge pages. This is a known issue that hasn't been fixed for anyone. Also, it would be really nice to have adventure sync just like in pokemon go as well as a way to replenish spell energy over time.
The game is enjoyable;the graphics and story line are well done up to this point. My main issue is the difficulty in gaining spell power. It seems the main way to do this is by visiting inns; however, I live in a large metropolitan area, and there are very few inns anywhere! Particularly within walking distance of my home or work. It difficult to even find an inn, and the few I have found, I have to drive to. If spell energy regenerated over time, I think it would be a more pleasurable experience
the idea is really fun, but the execution is a bit of a bummer. my main issue is with energy points. it would be great if, like many games, your energy would be restored over time with the option of buying more for instant gratification. this seems largely pay-to-play once initial energy is exhausted, which means i wont be playing much at all. i don't have the time to visit inns, etc, so that's a bummer. 2.5 stars-art and music, vo's and overall feel are delightful, but playability not great.
Uninstalled the game after testing for a while. A lot can be improved and I'm open to try the game again in the future: 1. Intro animation with owl takes too long and can't be skipped (or at least, I did not find out how) 2. Navigating through the menu goes slowly, items take time to load. 3. Game in overall is often too slow 4. Really stupid that you can get out of energy once you've started a battle. 5. Wait what?? I'm limited in energy that does not restore over time?? No thank you
I like the concept of the game and the cool details, like the portkeys, but the game is so glitchy! Twice now I've been kicked out of a portkey for "moving out of the area" when in fact, I was standing still. I lost the portkeys and all the rewards that came with them. Plus the game randomly just freezes up (usually on the map) and you have to restart it. Hoping things get better with time....
This game is fun, but it doesnt really bring anything new to the table. The animations are excellent, but like much of this game, it takes a while for it to run. The animations, the scrolling through what youve won or earned, loading up the stickers page, it all takes time! Also, why stickers? You can't customize with stickers, maybe if you could customize your suitcase that would be something. Bring back adventure as well, the battery drain alone is insane when you want to use your phone.
This is a great app overall. The AR is well done, the animations are clean, the graphics are great in quality, my main complaint is that you can really only play the actual game if you have spell energy, and the only way to get spell energy is to buy more or to get a small amount from the daily rewards. The only other way is to go to an "inn" and get it to recharge, and even then it doesn't fully recharge unless you spend a long time there. Would honestly be better if it recharged automatically
The game is interesting. The story is developing slowly and steadily but it is a bit sad that we cannot re-read the exchanges (it is quite easy to skip a message by mistake). The game is not very forgiving when the network connection is variable. I had several issues of "network errors" that were only affecting one inn but not the confoundables. Also I'm very disappointed that I cannot download the assets to my sd card instead of the device. I like the fighting more than in previous titles.
A rather boring game. Not for the casual gamer, at least not where I live. Lots of inns in the vicinity, but rarely any traces after reaching level 6. The story proceeds rather slow then. And then there are the technical issues. Sometimes the game crashes on trying to start. Two or three times it crashed upon supposedly losing network connection. It always crashes, when I try to use the camera for shooting a picture for the id card. funny enough it always displays a network error for the camera.
I have to agree with most of the reviews here and say the game is amazing yes, beautiful animations, somewhat slow at times but still great. However the stupid energy mechanic is making me want to stop playing completely, thanks for the 50 free energy and all but it wont address the problem for the people who play in rural areas long term. There are 500 ways you could monetize other aspects (customizable home base for those way out of reach of inns to allow a slow trickle of energy?) needs work
