The HBO Max content is not the problem, the problem is the sloppy and buggy application for Android, it crashes, video stops constantly for no reason, one needs to log off and login to get videos to play. The developers write they are on an ongoing process of improving it, but they are still light years away from having a more stable app like Netflix or any other streaming service. Yet again, the HBO content is worth it, if you watch it from a computer of course, can't recommend the app.

Consistently problematic. Between my phone and console, it just won't stay logged in for some reason. It does for a few weeks at a time, but then randomly decides to log me out; and if that weren't bad enough on its own, it seems to forget my login info each time! Like the only way to successfully log in is to change my password every single time. I like the app itself when it works, but I don't have this problem with Netflix, Hulu, Prime, Paramount etc.

The app works pretty well, but it could be improved. 1. It doesn't continue to play a video when I minimize the app. 2. It takes longer to download a video than other streaming service apps. 3. It needs to be streamlined for poorer Internet speeds (those of us in rural communities would appreciate that). Pro: customer service has been great every time I've contacted them.

It's all right. My quibbles are that on my phone after you start playing a program, unless you touch the screen a second time, the screen stays darkened with the pause symbol still visible. It does not go away automatically. Also the app does not work with my earbuds. Literally every single other video or music app I have works with my earbuds but this one. I cannot pause or anything by using my earbud controls. I do enjoy a great deal of the programming though.

The UX is terrible in general but if you have a slow or spotty internet connection, it becomes unusable. These issues are easy to replicate, which suggests little effort went into making and testing the app. The only reason I am not removing this app is that the content is good and the price is cheap. If you are traveling in a country that does not have HBO yet, you cannot access their help and feedback websites at all.

Only thing better in this new app is that it doesn't turn off casting any time it wants, as GO did. Everything else is the same. First I would expect that it remembers my choice for subtitles for every episode after I choose it for the first one. I didn't actually expect it to change the audio language on it's own for every other forthcoming episode. The app is more stable than GO but slower. You made it look good but some stuff slipped your sight. DO BETTER THAN THIS!

Will not rotate freely. Update: now rotates too easily. It's also impossible to seek using the progress bar. For some reason the app was an episode further than I've seen, but I couldn't seek to the beginning of the episode or restart it. I had to hit the -15sec button until the start of the episode. The app also is incapable of handling losing wifi. Instead of buffering, it just exits the video.

How do you make an app that crashes this often, doesn't pause other playing background apps when you start watching something, and makes it incredibly annoying to navigate between screens? Also whose bright idea was it to delete unwatched episodes a mere 48 hours after you start watching it? Even if it's still unfinished. I mean you can see that I haven't finished watching it yet right? Or was that one extra check a little too difficult to code? Come on people what a terrible UX

HBO Max is still new so their is not a lot of content but I'm happy that they have their own streaming service. What can be better is the mobile app. From all streaming services Netflix has by far the best app. Other problem is the subtitle when you use a chromecast. With the chromecast you have always a black background and this is very disturbing. When fixes happen I will gladly give a higher rating

1. Can't renew a download I mistakenly tapped a several days ago. Although I immediately closed it, the 48 hr countdown to watch was triggered. I've been attempting to renew it for the past few days and it won't renew. 2. Currently getting the "Can't Play Title" error message for all my downloads. The problem with this app is it's inconsistent and unreliable. There's always an problem. Last time the download speed was horrific. That got better, but now I can't play anything.

App was working perfectly until the update. Now I can get about 5 seconds of video, before that freezes, but the audio continues. Also would like to have the ability to decide how much data this uses, but that's minor. UPDATE: I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, still the same issue. Hopefully it gets fixed soon

Dreadful app. Film choice is great but the films themselves keep stopping for loading...ALL the time. Viewing is impossible like this. And this is with excellent internet connection, in the same room as the wifi router... No problems with any other apps of the type. The latest thought was even worse, it kept refusing to register our credit card even thought it had more than enough money to to through... Killing the viewing mid-movie several times. Disappointing to say the least.

Just a month ago I edited my review because the app keeps changing for the worse. When a video ended, it used to take you to the videos page which allowed me take it out of my list. But now it doeant. Then the autoplay when selecting a video is annoying. Give us options whether we want autoplay, what kind of fast forward, rewind, etc. The video selection is amazing but using the app is frustrating and annoying.

This has to be one of the worst streaming apps out there for tablet or phone. Works fine on Fire stick, but if you need to download on a device it's horrible. It's slow. Very slow. If you download and then remove a watched episode, you can't simply download another. You must exit the app, clear it from recently used apps, then reopen to find more episodes. Constantly kicks you out and you must sign in again...

Eats data. I try to turn off mobile data when I use it and only watch downloaded shows. still manages to sneak half a gig here and there if I'm not 100% on top of my usage. Yes, I have it set up to download only over wifi and no streaming settings... Still seems to get me. Downloads expire and won't renew. It thinks I'm offline half the time despite being on wifi and having great signal. It's so bad!

The app is very weak. It annoys and doesn't make you want to open it anymore and just switch to Netflix. If i don't use the app on any device it logs you out than you have to confirm the device from the phone or laptop, and only on the browser works. It logs you out from there to. And when you browse, lag is visible. Do something, guys.

Mac. P. May 7, 2022

Constantly crashes, if you are able to get anything to stream. I don't mind closing the app once in awhile, but to have to do it several times to watch one, 40 min show is not okay. I've had this issue on the smart tv app, phone app, fire stick app, and xbox app. My issue is not my wifi or connection. If many people are having the same issue, then it's the service that is the issue. The content is great, but you can't watch it, even though you are paying for it. Paid service is not provided.

2 star for the movies and series offered. Minus 3 stars for the Android app, iPhone app, browser page and TV app. Each of them are seriously behind on what you would consider a good app. Very laggy, often gives errors, app closes randomly, or still black screens, endless loading, really annoying. As far as it works, we really miss the "moving back or forward buttons" during series. When we want to skip an episode, which happens often" we need to go for main, search, series, find ep. Not great.

App keeps distorting the images. It was working ok until a few weeks ago now doesn't work. I've tried everything clearing cache removing and reinstalling the app. Only way to watch is on my PC. Not sure what happened but it's the worst streaming app so far. Also why the need of wifi when you download a show? Isn't that the purpose.

Incredibly frustrating setup. Had HBO Go back in 2019 but it didn't have much content. Saw they've made huge upgrades and was excited to see it in the Max version. Unfortunately, getting it going again just runs you in circles. Play Store opens the app, then the app says you need the Play Store to resubscribe. Open play store and follow the directions to resubscribe only to get the same runaround. Not worth the effort

Only had it for a few days and already the worst streaming service i have ever had. A great selection of movies and tv shows is only valuable when it actually works. Constant lagging, stops playing movies and exits out of the app, buffering, pixels, you name it. I'm going to keep it because i already paid for the month but Disney+ and Hulu are far better than this monstrosity. Oh, and you only get buffers if it decides to actually play your movie or tv show, which it rarely does.

Mel. R. May 15, 2022

I'm giving two stars only for the selection of shows. It's frustrating to pay for an app and have to not only watch ads, but for the app to buffer every few minutes. I've checked my internet speed, Wi-Fi connection and it's none of those causing the problem. Please fix this. I see other reviewers having the same issues.

Ern. E. May 24, 2022

By far the worst app out of all the streaming platform's apps. Very problematic, inconsistent, and glitchy. Hbo max is a good streaming service on a computer but ive noticed on multiple devices, apple and android, their app is terrible. Their "troubleshooting steps to improve experience" do nothing to help the many issues the app has. Ive been using the app for a while now across different devices and there has been little done to improve their problems.

Reb. K. May 6, 2022

I really want to love this app. The ads are short (never more than 30 seconds). Diverse content for a good price. Video quality is great. You can see what shows are available before actually purchasing a plan. Now what I don't love. The app crashes after a few hours of watching. I have to exit the app and completely close out of it to get it to work. I've never had this issue with any other service. If it didn't didn't do this, I'd give 5 stars.

Joe. S. Apr 29, 2022

Amazing selection of films and shows. Awful app functionality. You have to be online constantly and without break in order for the app to work at all. If you're not online, you're not watching jack. Doesn't matter if you download it to your device. The connection must be constant which completely defeats the point of downloading anything. PLEASE fix this ASAP.

Han. T. Apr 29, 2022

"Can it really be THAT bad?", I thought when I read other reviews, and the answer is yes, yes it can. Apart from navigation leaving much to be desired, not to mention the organisation of what you save to your page (!), the app just crashed. It says "my device seems to be offline" and to check my connection and try again, & that is _everything_ it says, meaning I can't access the app At All. This is just mind blowing for such a popular app. So hey, developers, I believe in you! You can fix this!
