Hearts of Iron: War Stories

Hearts of Iron: War Stories is a branching narrative about a young British pilot during the Battle of Britain.
Churchill once said “Never was so much owed by so many to so few"! Take part in this historic turning point during WWII as you make your own choices on the way.

Be wise! The decisions you make will influence which skills you learn, your relationships with other characters and even the story’s outcome.

The narrative is written by the well-known writer Aaron Rosenberg and lovingly edited by Paradox Interactive.

Hearts of Iron: War Stories is connected to Paradox Interactive's grand strategy game: Hearts of Iron 4 via a Paradox account. You are strongly encouraged to create an account and login, especially if you own other Paradox games, although it is not required to experience this game book.

The basic premise is stupid and then they require you to pay to continue past the first few missions.

Ok why, I see the price, but itvwon't accept the pay. Come on, make the exact price!

This is a great choose your own adventure style game where the decisions your character makes impacta the storyline of the game. The characters and the storyline for this game were well developed, my one complaint is that the story is short and leave you wanting more, but then again all great storys seem to do that. I am hoping to see more story games like this in the future from this developer

The story line was good, and I have enjoyed Choose your own Adventure type books since the late '70s, but this was much too short, and too rushed to justify the price. I finished it twice during my lunch hour. It's a great start, if they would just continue it.

I was really enjoying the game but now when I try to pay for the full game to get past chapter 5 it just keeps saying transaction declined, I've tried a different payment card with no luck and also bought a different app to make sure it's just this app that's having the issue. It's not often I mark a game down for not letting me give them my money.

As others have mentioned, it seems a bit short, but that's only because the game has been done so well. I didn't mind the price paid, based on the quality of the game as I perceived it. Sound effects and a soundtrack add to the experience, but either (or both) can be disabled if you wish. Save points are a nice touch, although you might disagree. No real weaknesses here. Bravo!

The concept is good but the writing is abysmal, it's like the writers bought the Fisher Price book on planes and used it as a sole reference. Planes do not have a gas pedal. You don't "hit" the rudder Planes do not have an engine stall if they go too fast A gypsy Moth does not have an enclosed cockpit Apparently the blitz started before Dunkirk The language is too contemporary, words like newbie are used frequently and it just seems awkwardly stilted.

"Slammed foot down on the throttle" The rudder is controlled by your feet in a plaane, the throttle is a level that you firewall to open up the throttle. "Too fast or the engine will stall"? The engine stalls if it spins too slowly, not too fast. When diving your speed increases and you've got to be careful to not over rev the engine. All this before I end the first flight.

Considering they are a well established game developer and the game having a bigger price tag than other CYOA out there, Paradox haven't impressed me with this title at all, knowing how well they've done on bigger titles. Better luck next time.

I like the concept and was excited to go through the first few chapters. The big but comes with the $5 charge for the rest. I spent a lot of money on Hearts of Iron 4, a brilliant game by the way, and I can't justify $5 more for a simple text based game, as much as I like it.

WARNING FREE VERSION IS TILL CHAPTER 6. NO COSTUMAZATION! Skills you earn feel that uselles. Most of the choices seem to have no or minimum conciseness. The back story is 4 chapters with some of the sentences are in forcefully put in just so the novel feels like its actually a book. I know you need money and I am the fan of your franchise, but common. I felt as if I was part of a narrow narative. And not a very good and interactive one.

Nothing too special here. Get it if you think Paradox hasn't taken enough of your money yet.

For a historical game franchise, they sure do like to take historical liberty. Mentioning the Holocaust at a time when nobody actually knew about it was a huge immersion breaker. The story is predictable and hero-centric. Just lots of the reader being jerked off at the idea of his character doing anything. Multiple spelling and grammar errors, maybe an hour of gameplay, and they want $5 for this app? It was a good idea, shame really. Don't make my mistake and pay for the full app.

Why it does not mention it is not the full game..i dont know.Great game but because it did not say i needed to pay to finish the game im not gonna continue.

Beware. The in app purchases listed in the description is the whole bloody game. You only get the first 4 chapters of the story then have to pay for the rest.

Learn the power of ads Paradox! I'm not paying 5€ for a mashed together choice story. There are entire novels priced at a tenth of the price. EDIT: Since it is not clear here, the "free" part is only the prologue.

Subtle but interesting twist on choose your adventure genre, with superb storytelling that hooks you from the very first chapter. I also greatly appreciate that it is not based on microtransactions. It gives you a taste and then asks if you want the full game. All games should have this model.

Pro. P. Apr 21, 2019

Great game with adventurous story, however, I wish they would release a sequel to this storyline on mobile. For example, what happens after the Battle of Britain and when your promoted? How do you lead the charge for the 54th or 41st sqaud you lead in the RAF?

Seb. S. Apr 6, 2017

Really fun to play and you decisions influence the story which makes you feel like you are part of the story. Only negative about the game is that you can only play the first few chapters for free. (Paradox) I have Hearts of Iron 4 Cononel edition could I play the rest of the game for free?

Łuk. S. Oct 20, 2016

Not only you become a RAF's pilot, get the story, choices and stats, but also makes you feel better. Helped me a lot even with day to day tasks.

I like it. it feels old in the way of a text game and the minor choices that change the story in a way that I like it might not change every aspect but I just liked it

Bra. C. Sep 22, 2016

Interesting and engaging story. however, it feels alittle too short for the price.

And. H. Sep 11, 2018

Best game I've ever played. Best story I've ever read. Excellent potential for a outstanding CYOA series or add-on for this game about wars and conflicts, past and present, from the perspective of those who fought, fact or fiction. (Ex: Civil War, WW1, WW2 (Axis or Allies), Vietnam, and Middle Eastern Conflicts (Iraq, Afghanistan, Fight Against Isis etc.)

Joh. K. Jul 16, 2016

The story is really good but they should add more chapters... its not worth 5 euro with only 22 chapters. I finished it in 2 hours

Anc. P. Dec 16, 2016

IT'S SUCH A GREAT GAME! Bad news is you only have 5 chapters for free, the other 22 chapters you have to buy. That was a kj.

Pyr. S. a. Mar 1, 2017

I went in expecting a pay to win game, I came out wanting to buy the full version. I would highly recommend this game.

The. Jan 2, 2017

It's a really fun game but it's not worth paying for, I went through all the free chapters within 10 minutes, I'm not paying $5 for all 22 or so chapters and for them to last 1 hour.
