I paid for this because they are a sponsor on an overland program I was watching, and they sell it as an offline mapping solution, but once off line you can zoom into the maps making them useless. I even tried selecting a specific area and downloading it, I still couldn't zoom in. I could have spent this money on a physical map and been happier.
On Android unable to do route planning. Quality of the maps does not match other apps available on Android. No sure what all the hype is about this app.
I had high hopes for this app that was featured on eXpedtion Overland. As an overlander I was hoping to use the app for my adventures. I tried on 3 tablets. Motorola Xoom running Andriod 4.2. Great Tablet, rugged, long battery life and the best built in GPS of all my tablets. Samsung Galaxy running KitKat, Poor GPS and terrible battery life and the Xplore RangerX running Andriod 4.2, ruggedized tablet with Vehicle dock and real USB ports. The app only works on the worst tablet I have the Samsung. The previous version would at least install on the Xoom and RangerX but would not download maps. The latest version crashes after install during second intro screen. Huge disappointment. Contacted Hema support and they were of absolutely no help and very slow to respond. Asked for a refund, emails went unanswered. I think they are trying to push Android users to their overpriced Android tablet. Don't waste your money.
The latest version is much better. Still have an issue with map sections disappearing but that seems common among map apps.
Continually errors when trying to share waypoints. Can save to SD card for large file downloads
No search function like the iOS version, several features inactive. This app seems to run the same engine as several well known and functioning apps. Hopefully they will continue to build on this platform and I didn't waste money. I've seen the Hema crew at Overland events and I was so excited for their North America software to release. I'm also unsure how to utilize the cloud features from within the app.
I was also excited to see the company and all the articles from Overland ExpoWest. But this needs some work. You can't even select imperial units! Everything is in meters and kilometers. Not even a search function. Really disappointed so far. Stick with GAIA maps and their app for now.
Doesn't seem to work in Canada yet, layer order isn't working, tries to re-download US maps over and over for Canada. Topo maps are out dated and have bad zoom levels. When zoomed in all the way map disappears.
Metric only is a drag. US base maps constantly downloading. Once downloaded the app crashes and the process repeats. I'm hopeful that it'll get sorted soon but for the time being I'll be using something else.
No updates since it was released with many bugs and issues that need to be addressed. Definitely not worth the money at this time!
Developer is unresponsive to concerns, here or on Facebook. For $20, they should be emailing me daily to ask me how it's going! Keeps downloading Hema US Roadmap. Why? Needs option for imperial units of measure. At $20, certainly not ready for prime time. It's been weeks since I paid and reviewed, and still no imperial units option? !
Still waiting on canada for download area. Excited to use it
If I could give it a negative rating, I would. Complete waste of $$$ Uninstalled
I really wanted to love this map system, but even after following all the directions and youtube tutorials, downloading the map sections...anytime you are not connected the wifi the maps are completely useless. Anytime you attempt to zoom into any of the layers, it never sharpens the image and stays way too blurry to see anything. Also, there is not an option to download the maps to the SD card, so you eat up all the internal storage in a hurry. Doesn't seem like they bothered to put any effort into this.
