Explanation of why various permissions are needed:
• The "Location" permission is required so that the app can determine your location to find locomotives near you, assist during recording a new report and center the map on your position. The app first attempts to determine your location via the network, if that fails the app then tries to determine your location via GPS.
• The "Wi-Fi connection information" permission is needed so that the app can determine whether or not Wi-Fi is enabled and whether the app is currently using that connection.
• The "Device ID & call information" permission is needed by the app (but only if your device is running Android 2.x or higher). Encoded to store only a partial ID during reporting; it is used to validate a user's account has not be compromised

They either deleted my other review or it didn't go through. Don't bother with this app, it was free and was nice then. No longer is it free, you have to pay $6 per month to get notified when a locomotive is near now, after 3+ years of it being free. I can't afford that and the app is useless without notifications. Notifications are sporadic, a Locomotive can go days, weeks or months without being reported again. It can go 500 miles before another report, notifications aren't worth paying for.
Bumping back up as the website lists steps tip fix this issue (they might want to add that here as well). Clearing the cache seems to fix the error in the app. Leaving original content below on case others hit this issue. ************************************************* Great when it worked. Now all I get is the HU.Managers.ApiException error like the others. App hasn't worked now in a few weeks. Multiple installs and reinstalls with no change. Hope this gets corrected soon.
I haven't been trackside in eons. I remember using the website. I'm so glad to come back and find out they actually made an app. Works just like the site did: flawlessly. Whomever your software engineers are deserve a raise or something.
I like having this as a tool when I go railfanning. But I can't report. When I go to report a locomotive it says you have hit your daily limit of spots when I haven't even submitted one report.
Great app. Would be cool to eventually be able to add photos to the reports. As well as report any and every train that goes by, not just the special edition ones.
I like the app and website. The only msjor drawback is you have to wait and depend on others to provide updates on where the heritage units are or you can miss them altogether. If each had GPS on them then it be much easier
App is very useful to catch rare locomotives! Only thing is that when I report a locomotive, it always sends the time an hour behind. So if I put 4:05, it will send it as 3:05. Other than that, it's great!
I used to visit the website a lot. Unfortunately Google apparently doesn't allow me to add the app on my android device, I don't have a cellphone. No way now to report sightings!
Love the app so far but I'm experiencing technical issues in the last two days where nothing will load ( map, train symbols, ability to report trains) I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app but still having the same issue.
App doesn't work, can't report, can't navigate it. I can search locos, but the map and not much else works.
This app needs attention. It was a good app for the past two years. But now, all it does is show a spinning circle where the number of engines is suppose to appear. And other friends tell me that it's doing the same thing to them.
After initial technical issues, developer worked quickly and responsively to resolve problems, resulting in a much better experience.
I heard about this app back in 2018 or 2019. And its amazing. Also. Could you atleast make something to where the arrows move on the map so we would know where a train is going
Always tells me password is in correct. I could write a book on what's wrong with this site. I'm trying to report an engine and I can't get that page to come up. All I get is other garbage.
Loved this until the latest update. Trying to log in and I can copy and past my address, but it will not let me past my password. I have a 20 chacter password and makes my login terribly difficult. Can you correct please?
Awesome app! I do wish that they would add the New Haven P32 units (Metro-North) and P32 #213, Metro-North's only named P32. Great app!

I just removed this app after the latest update. Hated everything they changed. Not easy to use any longer. Would not recommend this to my enemies
This is a great app! I know when heritage units are coming near my town but sometimes people just don't report them, and I miss them. And, I think it's just a bug I'm not sure what it is, but I can't make reports so I'm going with four stars.
