I am loving this app. It is not a deep dive into learning Japanese but I am finding it a very helpful (and fun) tool for practicing, instead of flash cards. Really really enjoying it. The method they have used for ads in the free version are quite appropriate. Never interrupting a lesson, only rubbing when you choose to finish a lesson. But the ads are removable.
Excellent Hiragana memorisation app, with usable free version and a reasonably priced (1€) premium version. It has a Katakana version as well. Edit: After stopping and restarting with Japanese and more than a year of having this app it's still a great way to learn or remember the characters. Edit 2: After 3 years of having it installed it's still great. Minor issue with 20:9 screens is that it stretches to fill the screen even when not on Fullscreen mode. A fix would be nice.
Useful for beginners. But too slow for revision, it needs a revision mode with fewer repetitions before going on to the next kana. It should remember what you have learnt regardless of what mode you use. You shouldn't start again from the beginning just because you change to keyboard entry mode. Should have a back button on each screen. Swipe up from bottom to use phone keys is not obvious, took me a while to find.
Great app for repetition and mastery building, and the ad-free version comes at a decent price. The UI is responsive enough, without unnecessary animations and other timesinks. My only complaint would be that the graphics appear weirdly stretched on my Xiaomi 9T (1080*2340 resolution). It doesn't really affect functionality, but it would be nice if it could be fixed in future versions.
I've used so many other apps that assume you already know hiragana and I've spent so much time trying to just remember all of it with Quizlet. Not fun. This app seems to analyze how you answer and it picks good spots to throw in the characters you consistently miss so that you can learn from your failures. I came in knowing maybe 20% of hiragana and within half an hour I memorized all of it. Really nice job at matching the progression of difficulty to my progression of learning. It never felt difficult or frustrating, I would just miss some of the characters when I'd first see them, and the next time they'd come around, I'd usually remember them. Seriously, really good job with analyzing how I learn.
Great app! Awesome for learning fast and effectively. But, there's something I don't understand. When I started playing, the game didn't ended. Of course, I spent two hours for the first time making mistakes, but then I spent 20 minutes, answering without mistakes. At the end, it looks like it went from 46/46 to 0/46 when I entered the menu after I finished playing. Amazing.
Katakana Pro and Hiragana Pro are brilliant apps. I was pretty rusty but these brought me well up to speed. I feel like they'd be great for absolute beginners as well with the visual and verbal aspects as well as the repetition. Well worth the $1 upgrade I might add. My only wish is that there was a drawing option in addition to the multiple choice and keyboard, but maybe some day 😁
I've been using both the Hiragana Pro and Katakana Pro apps, I got the paid version for both of them, and I absolutely do not regret it! It's "gameplay" system is extremely efficient and weirdly addicting, not to mention the different challenges, it's super useful!!! The only thing that I feel that is missing, is an inverse quiz, like, instead of giving us the Hira/Kata and then asking what's the sound of that, there could be an option in which we could guess the Hira/Kata based on its sound
I have finally found a great app to learn Hiragana. I've tried Duolingo, Rosetta, and a few others and this one tops them all. The app is simple, yet packed with great quizzes that get your mind going and they have a few different ways to help you to really memorize every one of the Hiragana. It is a beautiful app that is very ui friendly and is even color-customizable. I'm so happy I found this as it will definitely be a major staple in my journey of learning the Japanese language.
This app is so well designed that I'm actually struggling to articulate the experience. Don't get me wrong... it's still just flashcards, but this is perhaps the most enjoyable flashcard experience that I've ever had. I also love how the app is not compromised by excessive monotization. You simply buy one IAP and that's it -- they don't play mindgames with you, unlike a lot of other learning apps.
I really think you did an awesome job with this app. I like how simple and smooth it is. One thing I noticed is that the graphics you used for the hiragana are kinda different from some of the script in textbooks or on computer devices. Is it possible to add a small regular version of the letter character underneath the bigger graphic? Also it would be cool there was a mode that showed several letters and you hear one letter read aloud and must select the corresponding letter. The reason being I feel like the current mode of choosing the romanji to match the letter is a speed bottle neck while practicing whereas hearing the letter and matching the correct character might be faster. I tried hiragana pro and like it so bough the full version. I'm now moving onto katakana pro. Thanks for the great app!
Great app to quickly memorize hiragana. Simple, effective and the paid version is a helluva bargain. You can choose between an immediate multiple choice option, or a tap-to-see option which allows you to recall the meaning before given the multiple choice, effectively giving you 2 levels of difficulty. Great app, highly recommend 11/10.
The design is beautiful. However, the learning isn’t fun; it’s just simple memorization. It’s not obvious what the menu items are just by looking. You can’t control aspects of the spaced learning, so there’s already a better app for this. And most importantly, it doesn’t practice actually drawing the kana.
Amazing App, my only issue is that one of the voice lines sounds chu is a little louder than the rest and sounds off. It would also be great if you could have a mode where you go through everything at once.
Fantastic freemium app, great for learning the hirigana symbols. The app is really well developed and is comfy to use (I have premium). I really like how you include the information about the types of symbols and such. But I have some improvement suggestions: -when the user customizes a game it should be more flexible and lets individual symbols be ticked on/off -make it possible to make a game with all basic, voiced and combo symbols in one!
Almost perfect, non-intrusive ads, stimulating design, no annoying notifications. The only things that's keeping it from being perfect is that on devices with taller screens the scaling makes the keyboard ever so slightly elongated and that sometimes leads to typos. Apart from that, great learning tool!
I didn't like the pace that Duolingo had me learning the characters. It was long and annoying. This app helped me learn the characters fast so I can bypass those lessons. I would say doing this app 30 min per day for 4 days will give you a significant head start. I have not even had to come back to the app for a refresher. Because it was so good I donated to the developer. All in all this is a great way to get a head start and learning the characters.
Really effective to help memorize Hiragana!! The only problem I have is the sound it makes when you get it wrong is a little too scary. It makes me jump every time I hear it. I guess you could say it could motivate me to not get it wrong, but being constantly on edge isn't a very good feeling...
Super easy to just pick up and start using. Very user friendly and really glad I found this app. Have only used it for about a half hour and already know it's going to be very beneficial in my goal of learning Japanese. Have not tried any paid version yet the free one is doing just perfect for me trying to start out
You should be able to do the voiced and combo without paying, just without the voice or with an ad first or something. Other than that, this has been really helpful for me and the page with all the Romani is really helpful. Good app!
easy to use there really isn't much to it it's so simple and it's kind of like flash cards but better in my opinion because in less than 30 minutes I already had the majority memorized, however if you want to not forget the things you learned I suggest you try this a few times a day until it gets completely stuck in your head.
This app is great for new learners - allows to quickly, efficiently and easily learn the letters. It's also very simple to use and looks great. I only wish for an option to select which signs to learn - to save time when focusing on signs one hasn't learned yet.
I've been using this for a while and I can say it's nice and simple. It's also relaxing so it's a pleasant way of learning hiragana. However it has the perfect sound for when you get a character wrong, so anybody who's too relaxed and isnt paying attention will jolt awake and continue learning hahahah.
So I used to use this on my S7 Edge, it worked fine. Haven't been using it for over a year now because it stretches horribly on my s21 ultra screen. Couldn't ever find a fix, thought the app wasn't updated yet, but guess I was wrong. Don't know if it's anything on my end but it would be nice to see some support for this. (Also on the katakana app too)
