hnefatafl

Hnefatafl is an ancient board game, dating back at least to the Dark Ages, and with roots in earlier Greek and Roman games. It was played widely across North-Western Europe, wherever the Vikings lived and traded, and there were also Saxon and Celtic versions. It declined in popularity during the Middle Ages, when it was largely replaced by Chess, and almost vanished altogether. The board and starting position of Hnefatafl are known from archaeological and documentary evidence, but the rules are a matter of conjecture, however recent research and experimentation has resulted in a new interest in the game, with a very good set of rules and an annual World Championship.(Source : http://www.tim-millar.co.uk)

I played this on my old phone and loved it. New phone, downloaded it, and the menu button doesnt work. I can see the icon but nothing happens when i touch it.

Plays the game as you'd expect but no option for solo games vs the CPU. You can only play vs human opponents.

App was great, very easy, fun, multiplayer, but it froze after the first game finished. I can't do anything. Tried rebooting the phone, closing and reopening the app... won't let me do anything. Had to uninstall. Definitely want it back once this it's fixed though.

Medieval enthusiast, Celtic scholar. Love that it has all 3 common board sizes too. We normally play by slightly different rules that allow a somewhat weaker king to be captured be three warriors against the edges of the board, but that's the nature of a game that's nearly 1000 years old. Thank you Bill Holohan (dev) for fixing the freezing issue with the most recent update, may the wind be always at your back.

The options menu button mentioned by the author is not visible. Once you play one game you are done. Running android 4.4.2. Edit: the developers response solved my problem and pointed out a phone feature I was not aware of.

OK, so this has no computer player. So what. On a tablet it is a useable board game, suitable for laying on the table and playing a friend. Five stars to counteract the single stars. If it locks up, try hitting undo, then perform the move again.

At first, we were very excited as the app seemed to be exactly what we were looking for. The problems begun as soon as we started the first match: a) Although we wanted to play with the 11x11 board, the option never appeared and we were stuck with the 7x7; b) the undo button never appeared; c ) after the match was over and we got the notification if winning, there was no way to start a new game! Even after restarting the device, the app only opened the finished game and nothing else.

It's bad enough that it's not made for one payer....but worse that it doesn't let you play correctly...?...don't bother with this app, it's a joke.
